Abstract
A novel single-step and template-free procedure, including controlled synthesis of gold flowers (AuNFs), conjugation to a 4-MBA reporter, and stabilization with chitosan, is proposed to develop the SERS tags-based nanoparticles for trace detection of heparin. This SERS detection assay is based on the aggregation/non-aggregation balance of AuNFs-4-MBA@chitosan nanoparticles, which was induced by adding a very low concentration of heparin in the as-synthesized colloidal solutions. SERS-tag colloids are prepared by mixing chitosan with HAuCl4 and 4-mercapto benzoic acid before being reduced with ascorbic acid under appropriate pH conditions. The formed AuNFs-4-MBA@chitosan nanoparticles were positively charged with high stability and well-dispersed in aqueous media. Based on understanding each reaction component's role in the preparation of the SERS tag colloid, we aim to simplify the controlled synthesis and Raman probe conjugation process. The average size of AuNFs is below 90 nm, fine-tuned in shape and effectively conjugated to the Raman reporter molecules 4-MBA. These as-prepared SERS tag-based AuNFs have good biocompatibility and are virtually non-toxic, as studied with fibroblast and MCF-7 cells. Through these SERS-tag colloids, the trace detection of heparin is improved, with a wide detection window (0.01 to 100 ppm), high reproducibility (RSD value of 3.56%), limit of detection (LOD) of 0.054 ppm, and limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.17 ppm. Comparison experiments show that the SERS-tag colloids possess good selectivity over other ions, and organic and amino acid substances. The results provide the capability and the potential for application under complex biological conditions and future biosensing based on SERS signal amplification.

Abstract
Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), chemically synthesized by citrate reduction, were for the first time immobilized onto chitosan-treated soybean knitted fabric via exhaustion method. AuNPs were successfully produced in the form of highly spherical, moderated polydisperse, stable structures. Their average size was estimated at ≈35 nm. Successful immobilization of chitosan and AuNPs were confirmed by alterations in the fabric's spectrophotometric reflectance spectrum and by detection of nitrogen and gold, non-conjugated C=O stretching vibrations of carbonyl functional groups and residual N-acetyl groups characteristic bands by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis. XPS analysis confirms the strong binding of AuNPs on the chitosan matrix. The fabrics' thermal stability increased with the introduction of both chitosan and AuNPs. Coated fabrics revealed an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) of +50, which established their effectiveness in ultraviolet (UV) radiation shielding. They were also found to resist up to 5 washing cycles with low loss of immobilized AuNPs. Compared with AuNPs or chitosan alone, the combined functionalized coating on soy fabrics demonstrated an improved antimicrobial effect by reducing Staphylococcus aureus adhesion (99.94%) and Escherichia coli (96.26%). Overall, the engineered fabrics were confirmed as multifunctional, displaying attractive optical properties, UV-light protection and important antimicrobial features, that increase their interest for potential biomedical applications.

Abstract
Hybrid multilayer films based on the two molecular species pararosaniline (PR) and Keggin-type polyoxometalate K5[PMo11VO40)] (PMo11V) were prepared on different substrates using the electrostatic layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly method. The film buildup, monitored by electronic spectroscopy, showed a regular stepwise growth, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy data confirmed the presence of both molecular components within the LbL films. Scanning electron microscopy images revealed a completely covered surface with a nonuniform distribution of film components, and atomic force microscopy images confirmed a rough surface. The film electrochemical responses and permeability were studied by cyclic voltammetry. Films revealed three Mo-based redox processes (Mo(VI) → Mo(V)) and one V-based redox process (V(V) → V(IV)) in the potential range between 0.8 and -0.4 V vs Ag/AgCl. Studies with the redox probes [Fe(CN)6](3-/4-) and [Ru(NH3)6](3+/2+) showed that the films maintain the permeability even after six bilayers. Furthermore, the {PR/PMo11V}n multilayer films exhibit excellent Mo-based electrocatalytic activity toward reduction of iodate and V-based electrocatalytic activity toward ascorbic acid oxidation, thus acting as a versatile multielectrocatalyst.
