Solvothermal Synthesis and Structure of Two New Borates Containing [B7O9(OH)5]2− and [B12O18(OH)6]6− Clusters

Two New Aluminoborates with 3D Porous-Layered Frameworks

Two new aluminoborates, NaKCs[AlB₇O₁₃(OH)]·H₂O (1) and K₄Na₅[AlB₇O₁₃(OH)]₃·5H₂O (2), have been hydro(solvo)thermally made with mixed alkali metal cationic templates. Both 1 and 2 crystallize in the monoclinic space group P2₁/n and contain similar units of [B₇O₁₃(OH)]^6- cluster and AlO₄ tetrahedra. The [B₇O₁₃(OH)]^6- cluster is composed of three classical B₃O₃ rings by vertex sharing, of which two of them connect with AlO₄ tetrahedra to constitute monolayers, and one provides an O atom as a bridging unit to link two oppositely orientated monolayers by Al-O bonds to form 3D porous-layered frameworks with 8-MR channels. UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra indicate that both 1 and 2 exhibit short deep-UV cutoff edges below 190 nm, revealing that they have potential applications in deep-UV regions.

Three mixed-alkaline-metal borates with {Li@B12Ox(OH)24−x} (x = 18, 22) clusters: from isolated oxoboron cluster to unusual layer

The isolated {Li@B12O18(OH)6} clusters are extended to the {Li@B12O22(OH)2} layer through condensation reactions for the first time.

Effect of anion dimensionality on optical properties: the ∞[B7O10(OH)2] layer in CsB7O10(OH)2vs. the ∞[B7O12] framework in CsBaB7O12

CsB₇O₁₀(OH)₂ with new FBB features a 2D anionic structure whose band gap is about 6.6 eV and CsBaB₇O₁₂ features a 3D anionic structure whose band gap is 5.6 eV. And their simulated birefringence are about 0.08 and 0.05 at 1064 nm, respectively.

Two zinc(II) hexaborate(2−) complexes, [Zn{κ3O-B6O7(OH)6}(κ3N-dien)]·0.5H2O (dien = NH(CH2CH2NH2)2) (1) and (NH4)2[Zn{κ2O-B6O7(OH)6}2(H2O)2]·2H2O (2), and a zinc(II) dodecaborate(6−) complex, (1,3-pnH2)3[(κ1N-H3N{CH2}3NH2)Zn{κ3O-B12O18(OH)6}]2·14H2O (1,3-pn = 1,3-diaminopropane) (3), have been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal XRD studies. The complexes crystallized through self-assembly processes, from aqueous solutions containing 10:1 ratios of B(OH)3 and appropriate Zn(II) amine complex: [Zn(dien)2](OH)2, [Zn(NH3)4](OH)2, and [Zn(pn)3](OH)2. The hexaborate(2−) anions in 1 and 2 are coordinated to octahedral Zn(II) centres as tridentate (1) or bidentate ligands (2) and the dodecaborate(6−) ligand in 3 is tridentate to a tetrahedral Zn(II) centre.
