Readiness in implementing green industry standard for SMEs: Case of Indonesia's batik industry

Green Industry Standard (GIS) acts as a guideline for industries, including the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to preserve the environment and economy in their production process. This study aims to assess the industry's readiness in the case of Indonesia's batik industry, to adopt the GIS and optimize its implementation. The method used in this study is survey and interviews. The survey and interviews involved 25 respondents, comprising owners or managers of the batik industry engaged in handcrafted, stamped, or combined batik production, from pattern-making to finishing stages. The analysis has been done using the Stages of Change Readiness and Treatment Eagerness Scale (SOCRATES) instrument to evaluate the industry's readiness and employing TOWS (Threats, Opportunities, Weaknesses, Strengths) analytical tool to formulate optimization strategies. The results of this study show that an assessment of the batik industries' compliance with Green Industry Standards revealed that they have not yet adopted sustainable practices in their production processes concerning materials, energy, water, products, and waste. The SOCRATES analysis also indicates that the batik industry's readiness to meet the technical requirements of the GIS is currently low. In conclusion, the primary approach in applying green industry principles should focus on rectifying existing weaknesses concerning craftsmen's awareness and understanding of green industry practices. After the industry's awareness emerges, utilizing GIS can boost production, improve raw material efficiency, and provide customers with greater "green" value.

Motivation to change predicts college students' utilization of self-help resources

Background: Stress and mental health difficulties are common burdens on college students. College counseling centers have been overrun by demand. Thus, self-help interventions may offer a promising alternative to traditional college counseling services. Methods: The current study examined the influence of perceived stress, motivation to change, and self-efficacy beliefs on college students' use of self-help resources, to determine whether these factors would predict follow-up with self-help recommendations. Results: Results of stepwise linear regression models suggest that perceived stress and self-efficacy did not predict self-help resource utilization. Different types of self-help recommendations did not predict different levels of follow-up. However, motivation to change was a significant predictor college students' self-help resource use, and this variable was particularly important when self-help recommendations were less structured. Conclusions: These findings can help to predict which college students are likely to make use of self-help resources, and inform targeted individual treatment.

Readiness to Change and Prospective Effects of Weight Management Programs in Pediatric Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an increasing problem in pediatrics with limited treatment options. We prospectively assessed outcomes in patients managed in a hepatology clinic (HC) alone vs. those managed in combination with a multidisciplinary weight management program (MWMP). We describe each group's readiness to change at the time of NAFLD diagnosis. Patients diagnosed with NAFLD were given a modified Stages of Change Readiness and Treatment Eagerness Scale (SOCRATES) at enrollment (T1) to assess readiness to change. They were then followed at 3-9 months (T2) and at 10-15 months (T3). Linear mixed models were used to evaluate changes in body mass index (BMI), BMI z-score, and transaminases over time and between the two groups. There were no significant treatment group main effects or treatment × time interactions for our primary end points for HC alone (n = 75) or with MWMP (n = 18). There was a significant main effect for time for BMI z-score, with BMI z-scores declining on average by 0.0568 (P = 0.004) from visit to visit. Low SOCRATES subscales scores in HC alone (n = 33) or with MWMP (n = 4) suggested a patient population with low recognition of disease and likelihood of taking steps for change. Patients with obesity and NAFLD had low scores on all three SOCRATES subscales. Despite this, both groups had improvement in BMI z-score without significant difference between the two treatment groups in other primary end points. Further study is needed to identify the most effective patient selection and treatment strategies for pediatric patients with NAFLD, including pharmacotherapy and surgery.
