New Organotin/CuCN/Quinazoline 3D-Supramolecular Coordination Polymers Having Catalytic and Luminescence Activities

Recent advances in Cu-Fenton systems for the treatment of industrial wastewaters: Role of Cu complexes and Cu composites

Cu-based Fenton systems have been recognized as a promising suite of technologies for the treatment of industrial wastewaters due to their high catalytic oxidation capacity. Rapid progress regarding Cu Fenton systems has been made not only in fundamental mechanistic aspects of these systems but also with regard to applications over the past decade. Based on available literature, this review synthesizes the recent advances regarding both the understanding and applications of Cu-based Fenton processes for industrial wastewater treatment. Cu-based catalysts that are essential to the effectiveness of use of Cu Fenton reactions for oxidation of target species are mainly classified into two types: (i) Cu complexes with organic or inorganic ligands, and (ii) Cu composites with inorganic materials. Performance of the Cu-based catalysts for the removal of organic pollutants in industrial wastewaters are reviewed, with the key operating parameters illustrated. Furthermore, the roles of Cu complexes and composites in both homogeneous and heterogeneous Cu-Fenton systems are critically examined with particular focus on the mechanisms involved. Perspectives and future efforts needed for Cu-based Fenton systems using Cu complexes and composites for industrial wastewater treatment are presented.

Spectroscopic properties and the catalytic activity of new organo-lead supramolecular coordination polymer containing quinoxaline

The 3D-supramolecular coordination polymer (SCP) (3)∞[ Cu2(CN)3(Me3Pb)(qox)], 1, as the first example of the CuCN SCP containing the (Me3Pb) fragment, was explored to investigate its catalytic and photo-catalytic activities. The structure of 1 contains two chemically identical but crystallographically different [Cu2(CN)3⋅Me3Pb⋅qox]2 units with four Cu(I) sites assuming distorted TP-3 geometry. Two non-linear chains of equal abundance are formed producing corrugated parallel chains which are connected laterally by quinoxaline creating 2D-layers which are arranged parallel in an (AB⋯AB⋯AB)n fashion forming 3D-network. IR, mass, electronic absorption and fluorescence spectra are also investigated. The SCP 1 is diamagnetic and exhibits good catalytic and photo-catalytic activities for the degradation of methylene blue (MB). The reaction is first order with respect to MB dye. The irradiation of the reaction with UV-light enhanced the rate of MB mineralization. The efficiency of recycled the 1 and the mechanism of degradation of MB dye were investigated.

Structure, photoluminescent properties and photocatalytic activities of a new Cd(II) metal-organic framework

A new metal-organic framework, [Cd(TDC)(bix)(H2O)]n (H2TDC = thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid; bix = 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene), has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, UV-vis and single X-ray diffraction. Cd-MOF is a 2D infinite layer framework, which is further interconnected by hydrogen-bond interactions leading to a 3D supramolecular architecture. The photoluminescent properties of the Cd-MOF were investigated and this compound shows intense fluorescent emissions in the solid state. In addition, it exhibits good photocatalytic activities for the degradation of methyl organic under UV light irradiation.

The organotin coordination polymer [(n-Bu3Sn)4Fe(CN)6H2O] as effective catalyst towards the oxidative degradation of methylene blue

The structure of the supramolecular coordination polymer SCP 1; [(n-Bu3Sn)4Fe(CN)6H2O] consists of octahedral [Fe(CN)6](4-) building blocks which are connected by the TBPY-5 configured n-Bu3Sn(CN..)2 fragments creating 3D-network structure. Fenton and photo-Fenton oxidative discoloration of Methylene Blue (MB) has been investigated by hydrogen peroxide catalyzed with the SCP 1. The reaction exhibited pseudo first-order kinetics with respect to each of MB and H2O2. The irradiation of the reaction with UV-light enhanced the rate of MB mineralization, Kobs=0.76 h(-1). Mineralization of MB was investigated by FT-IR spectra. Disodium salt of terephthalic acid photoluminescence probing technology was carried out to identify the reactive oxygen species. The different parameters that affect MB degradation rate were evaluated. Moreover, the efficiency of recycled the SCP 1 and the mechanism of degradation of MB dye were investigated.
