Lanthanide-Functionalized Metal−Organic Framework as Ratiometric Probe for Selective Detection of 4-NA and Fe3+

Double-emitting lanthanide metal-organic frameworks composed of Eu/Tb doping and ratiometric fluorescence detection of nitrofurazone

Lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (LnMOFs) have substantial potential in luminescence due to their unique antenna effect. Nevertheless, the single emission is susceptible to pseudo-signals caused by external environmental conditions, which significantly threaten the accurate measurement of the concentration. In this case, we prepared a dual-emission fluorescent probe {EuxTb1-x(NH2-BDC)3(DMF)4·2DMF}∞ (NH2-BDC = Diaminoterephthalic acid, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide). The stable dual-emission signal provides a superior signal output for detecting nitrofurazone (NFZ), which is detected by the probe with excellent fluorescence for 0-10 μM NFZ. In the investigation of the detection mechanism, it is speculated that NFZ incorporates with probe to generate a novel complex. Furthermore, The UV absorption curves of the novel complexes and NFZ overlap extensively with those of the probe. The addition of NFZ attenuates the characteristic luminescence of Eu and Tb by competing for the absorption of the excitation light of the probe. The probe has exhibits rapid response, excellent sensitivity, visual detection and a meagre detection limit (LOD = 0.013 μM) for the detection of NFZ. This work not only broadens the application of LnMOFs in the field of ratiometric detection but also provides a favorable fluorescent probe for the quantitative detection of NFZ.

Luminescent Guests Encapsulated in Metal-Organic Frameworks for Portable Fluorescence Sensor and Visual Detection Applications: A Review

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have excellent applicability in several fields and have significant structural advantages, due to their open pore structure, high porosity, large specific surface area, and easily modifiable and functionalized porous surface. In addition, a variety of luminescent guest (LG) species can be encapsulated in the pores of MOFs, giving MOFs a broader luminescent capability. The applications of a variety of LG@MOF sensors, constructed by doping MOFs with LGs such as lanthanide ions, carbon quantum dots, luminescent complexes, organic dyes, and metal nanoclusters, for fluorescence detection of various target analyses such as ions, biomarkers, pesticides, and preservatives are systematically introduced in this review. The development of these sensors for portable visual fluorescence sensing applications is then covered. Finally, the challenges that these sectors currently face, as well as the potential for future growth, are briefly discussed.

A Eu(iii) metal–organic framework based on anthracenyl and alkynyl conjugation as a fluorescence probe for the selective monitoring of Fe3+ and TNP

In this work, a luminescent metal–organic framework (Eu-MOF {[Eu₆L₆(μ₃-OH)₈(H₂O)₃]₈·H₂O}_n) was constructed by a solvothermal method with a linear organic ligand L (10-[(2-amino-4-carboxyl-phenyl)ethynyl]anthracene-9-carboxylic acid) based on anthracene and alkyne groups and using Eu³⁺ as the metal center. The MOF exhibits a stable UiO-66 crystal structure, and a six-core cluster twelve-linked secondary structural unit was successfully synthesized using 2-fluorobenzoic acid as a modulator, forming a classical fcu topology. Moreover, it exhibits good chemical stability. Interestingly, Eu-MOF exhibited high selectivity and sensitive fluorescence burst properties towards Fe³⁺ ions and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) in DMF solution. For Fe³⁺, the K_SV value is 5.06 × 10⁵ M⁻¹ and the LOD value is 5.1 × 10⁻⁷ M. For TNP, the K_SV value is 1.92 × 10⁴ M⁻¹ and the LOD value is 1.93 × 10⁻⁶ M. In addition, Eu-MOF showed good anti-interference ability and fast response. This work provides an excellent fluorescent sensor for the detection of Fe³⁺ and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) residues in contaminants.

In this work, Eu-MOF has been synthesized and has excellent luminescence recognition ability for Fe³⁺ and TNP with good selectivity and high sensitivity via luminescence quenching.
