Abstract
Low cost and strong fluorescence emission are two important guarantees for luminogens used as light conversion agents. By one-pot multicomponent approach and inexpensive starting materials, three dicyanopyridine (DP) derivatives named as DCP (2-amino-6-methoxy-4-phenylpyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile), DCO (2-amino-6-methoxy-4-(4-methoxyphenyl) pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile) and DCC (2-amino-4-(4-cyanophenyl)-6-methoxypyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile) were designed and synthesized. Meanwhile, the ACQ-to-AIE transformation was successfully realized by altering substituent groups rather than traditional rotor-stator theory. Based on crystal analysis and theoretical calculations, the ACQ-to-AIE transformation is attributed to the tunable stacking modes and intermolecular weak interactions. Owing to matched fluorescence emission, low lost, high yield, and AIE activity, DCC is used as light conversion agents and doped in EVA matrix. The light conversion quality confirms that DCC can not only convert ultraviolet light, but also significantly improve the transmittance of 25 %/40 % EVA, whose photosynthetic photon flux density at 400-500 nm and 600-700 nm increased to 30.67 %/30.21 % and 25.37 %/37.82 % of the blank film, respectively. After 20 h of UV irradiation (365 nm, 40 W), the fluorescence intensities of DCC films can maintain 92 % of the initial values, indicating good photostability in the doping films. This work not only provides an excellent and low-cost light conversion agent, but also has important significance for ACQ-to-AIE transformation of luminogens.

Abstract
The 1,4-dihydropyridine is a ubiquitous scaffold employed not only in medicinal chemistry but also in organic synthesis, given its ability to act as a hydrogen transfer reagent, thus emulating NAD(P)H reducing agents. In this work, we describe the synthesis of 3-methyl 5-{3-[(4-methylbenzenesulfonyl)oxy]propyl} 4-(2,3-dichlorophenyl)-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate as scaffold, which enables downstream derivatization towards new 1,4-dihydropyridine molecules. Inspired by the literature, a new two-step synthesis was planned that involved: (i) synthesis of a silylated 1,4-dihydropyridine derivative and (ii) deprotection and tosylation in one step using tosyl fluoride.

Abstract
1,4-Dihydropyridines (1,4-DHPs) hold a top-notch position in the pharmaceutical world due to a broader spectrum of applications, whereas the carboxylic moiety has been an integral part of the physiological world, effective food preservatives, and antimicrobial agents. Seeking the enormous potential and applications of these two classes, we worked to combine these to synthesize 2,2'-[3,5-bis(ethoxycarbonyl)-4-phenyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-2,6-diyl]diacetic acid the novel dicarboxylic derivatives of 1,4-DHP (9a-k) achieved via the electro-carboxylation of tetrasubstituted-1,4-dihydropyridines (8a-k) derivatives using Mg-Pt electrodes in an undivided cell. The targeted compounds were established by 1H, 13C NMR, IR, and ESI-MS. Further, the synthesized compounds show excellent resistance against various microbes and the activity increased 2-3 folds after the introduction of acid groups. Compound 9b (against E. coli, S. aureus, B. subtilis, A. niger, and P. glabrum), 9d (against E. coli, K. pneumonia, S. aureus, A. janus, and F. oxysporum), 9f (against E. coli and P. fluorescens), and 9k (against F. oxysporum and P. glabrum) were found to be highly active at 4 μg/mL with reference to standard amoxicillin and fluconazole. Further, the present synthetic protocol would open new gates for other researchers to develop new molecules by bioisosteres of these substrates.

New fatty dihydropyridines present cardioprotective potential in H9c2 cardioblasts submitted to simulated ischemia and reperfusion. Biomed Pharmacother 2018; 109:1532-1540. Abstract
Nifedipine is a calcium channel blocker dihydropyridine that has been used in the treatment of hypertension. The production of reactive species and calcium overload are the main contributors to myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I / R) injury. We investigated the ability of novel dihydropyridines (DHPs) to improve the effect of protecting against the injury induced by ischemia and reperfusion in cardioblasts when compared to nifedipine. Forty three DHPs were created varying the fatty chains derived from palmitic acid, stearic acid and oleic acids and aromatic moiety in addition to the addition of chemical elements such as chlorine, nitrogen dioxide, furfural, hydroxyl and methoxy. Cytotoxicity and inhibition of linoleic oxidation were evaluated for all new DHPs and also for nifedipine. The alpha-tocopherol and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) were used as antioxidants controls. The compounds with the best antioxidant potential were used in the ischemia and reperfusion (I / R) induction test in cardioblasts (H9c2). Cardioblasts were treated 24 h after assembly of plates and submitted to the ischemia simulation (30 min), after which, normoxia and cellular nutrition conditions were reestablished, simulating reperfusion (additional 30 min). Right after, cell viability, apoptosis, necrosis, and the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) were evaluated. Cell viability during I / R was not altered in cells treated with nifedipine, BHT and the new DHP composed of palmitic acid with hydroxyl group in the aromatic substituent. The other new DHPs increased cell viability during I / R simulation and reduced levels of reactive species compared to the I / R group, demonstrating the antioxidant capacity of the new DHPs. Therefore, DHPS with palmitic and oleic acids in the C3 and C5 position with NO2 or Cl in aromatic moiety, presented the highest antioxidant potential (linoleic oxidant test). The new DHPs increased cell viability during I / R simulation and reduced levels of reactive species compared to the ischemia and reperfusion group, demonstrating the antioxidant capacity of the new DHPs. Taken together, these results indicate that those new DHPs have a greater cardioprotective antioxidant capacity to face the damages of ischemia and reperfusion.
