Abstract
A straightforward cross-dehydrogenative coupling approach to incorporate alicyclic amino residues into the structure of model cyclic aldonitrones, 2H-imidazole oxides, is reported. The elaborated C(sp2)-H functionalization is achieved by employing cyclic amines in the presence of the I2-tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) reagent system. As a result, a series of 19 novel heterocyclic derivatives were obtained in yields of up to 97%. A mechanistic study involving electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopic experiments allowed the radical nature of the reaction to be confirmed. In particular, the envisioned mechanistic rationale comprises N-iodination of a cyclic amine, followed by N-I bond homolysis of the resulting intermediate and subsequent amination of the nitrone moiety via the newly generated nitrogen-centered radical.

Abstract
This letter presents the side-chain iodination of electron-deficient benzylic hydrocarbons at rt using N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) as radical initiator and 1,3-diiodo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin and 3-iodo-1,5,5-trimethylhydantoin (3-ITMH) as iodine source. Addition of a carboxylic acid increased the reactivity due to complex formation with and activation of 3-ITMH by proton transfer and halogen bond formation. No SEAr reactions were observed under the employed reaction conditions. Our method enables convenient product isolation and gives 50-72% yields of isolated products.

Abstract
This review summarizes recent research on novel photochemical methods for the initiation and control of the polymerization of main chain fluorinated monomers as exemplified by vinylidene fluoride (VDF) and for the synthesis of their block copolymers. Such reactions can be carried out at ambient temperature in glass tubes using visible light. Novel, original protocols include the use of hypervalent iodide carboxylates alone or in conjunction with molecular iodine, as well as the use of photoactive transition metal carbonyls in the presence of alkyl, fluoroalkyl, and perfluoroalkyl halides. An in-depth study of the reaction parameters highlights the use of dimethyl carbonate as a preferred polymerization solvent and outlines the structure-property relationship for hypervalent iodide carboxylates and halide initiators in both the free radical and iodine degenerative transfer controlled radical polymerization (IDT-CRP) of VDF. Finally, the rational selection of metal carbonyls that are successful not only as IDT mediators but, more importantly, in the quantitative activation of both PVDF-CH2-CF2-I and PVDF-CF2-CH2-I chain ends toward the synthesis of well-defined PVDF block copolymers is presented.

Abstract
The reaction of thymidine, 3-mono-, and 3,3',5'-trialkylsubstitued thymidine analogues with iodine monochloride (ICl) was investigated. Treatment with ICl resulted in rapid deglycosylation, anomerization, and isomerization of thymidine and 3-substituted thymidine analogues under various reaction conditions leading to the formation of the nucleobases as the major products accompanied by minor formation of α-furanosidic-, α-pyranosidic-, and β-pyranosidic nucleosides. On the other hand, 3,3',5'-trisubstitued thymidine analogues were only deglycosylated and anomerized. These results are similar to those observed for the acidic hydrolysis of the glycoside bond in nucleosides, but were presumably caused by the Lewis acid character of an iodine electrophile.

Abstract
Two protocols for the construction of 4-iodo-3-furanones through a sequence consisting of cyclization and 1,2-migration of 2-alkynyl-2-silyloxy carbonyl compounds were developed. In one, electrophilic cyclization is directly induced by N-iodosuccinimide (NIS). In the second less limited variant, AuCl3 catalyzes the tandem reaction in the presence of NIS to provide highly substituted heterocycles in moderate to excellent yields.
