Mapping the Landscape of Indian Genomics Research: A Scientometric Analysis

This Scientometric study aimed to provide state-of-the-art information on research growth and trends, areas of potential growth and development in genomics in India, and identify the key players (organizations or institutions, and funding agencies). It was found that the number of publications and citations related to genomics research has been steadily increasing over the years, indicating a growing interest and investment in the field as the Indian Council of Agricultural Research was the leading contributor to the field. Among the 159 contributing countries from 2012 to 2021, India contributed 4.46 percent of publications. The Department of Biotechnology (Ministry of Science and Technology, India) provided the most funds for genomics research. In the last decade, research was primarily focused on "Genetic Diversity", "Polymorphism", "Comparative Genomics", "Phylogeny", " Random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD)", "Single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)", "Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)", "Gene Expression", etc. The study's findings may shed light on the strengths and weaknesses of the country's research infrastructure, as well as the effectiveness of government policies and funding mechanisms.

Translational health technology and system schemes: enhancing the dynamics of health informatics

Translational health technology and design schemes reflect certain themes in systems approach and its dynamics. This paper discusses these aligned ideas in view of their value to translational design processes. The ideas embedded in these two approaches are considered in the light of critical questions associated with the development of health informatics. Health care processes for patients might be very fragmented. Synergy thinking is required in all areas of design: it is crucial to understand the theoretical frames and issues associated with focus environments, administration, and cost policy. By internalizing common nuances in these approaches, designers can ease the interaction and communication between experts from different backgrounds. Synergistic thinking aids designers in health informatics to produce more sophisticated products. Maturing in recognizing the whole aids to take into account “the very essentials” more easily. These skills are very vital in prioritizing development substances in health informatics area.

Awareness of and attitudes toward translational medicine among health personnel in hospitals in Shanghai, China

Objective

The study aim was to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of hospital health personnel toward translational medicine.

Methods

We conducted a cross-sectional survey from July 2013 to September 2013 with a representative sample of 1690 health personnel from 13 large comprehensive or specialized hospitals in Shanghai, China.

Results

The results showed that awareness of and attitudes toward translational medicine significantly differed by gender, age, highest level of education, profession, and professional rank. Health personnel showed a highly positive attitude toward translational medicine; however, their knowledge of translational medicine was low.

Conclusion

Effective measures are needed to improve health personnel’s awareness of and attitudes toward translational medicine.

Global trends of municipal solid waste research from 1997 to 2014 using bibliometric analysis

This study uses a bibliometric approach to identify global trends related to the municipal solid waste (MSW). It applies related literature in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Science (CPCI-S) and Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Social Science & Humanities (CPCI-SSH), retrieved from the ISI Web of Science. The data used covers the period from 1997 to 2014. Analyzed aspects included document type, and publication output as well as distribution of journals, subject category, countries, institutions, title-words, author keywords, and keywords plus. An evaluating indicator, citation score, was applied to characterize the MSW publications. The research outputs of MSW had steadily increased in the field of energy fuels, engineering chemical and biotechnology applied microbiology, especially environmental sciences and engineering environmental. The predominance of Chinese institutions in terms of article count and a predominance of industrialized countries' institutions in terms of citation score were compared. Finally, author keywords, words in title, and keywords plus were analyzed to provide research emphasis, with the developing trends and recent hotspots provided.

IMPLICATIONS

A systematic overview of scientific literature dealing with municipal solid waste (MSW) is provided by a bibliometric analysis. The analysis of author keywords helps in drawing the research trends in a special perspective. Research studies on food waste, life cycle assessment (LCA), and renewable energy tend to be a new research focus in the area of MSW. The conclusions could provide a reference to the decision making and policy of MSW management for the government to some extent.
