Research status and development trends in the field of marine environment corrosion: a new perspective

Treatment techniques and resource recovery of source-separated urine: a bibliometric analysis and literature review

Human urine, which is high in nutrients, acts as a resource as well as a contaminant. Indiscriminate urine discharge causes environmental pollution and wastes resources. To elucidate the research status and developmental trajectory of source-separated urine (SSU) treatment and recovery, this study was based on the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database and used the bibliometric software VOSviewer and CiteSpace to conduct a comprehensive and in-depth bibliometric analysis of the related literature in this field. The findings revealed a general upward trend in SSU treatment and recovery from 2000 to 2023. The compendium of 894 scholarly articles predominantly focused on the disciplines of Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, and Water Resources. China and the USA emerged as the foremost contributors. Keyword co-occurrence mapping, clustering, and burst analysis have shown that the recovery of nitrogen and phosphorus from urine is currently the main focus, with future prospects leaning toward the retrieval of biochemicals and chemical energy. This study systematically categorizes and compares the developmental status, current advancements, and research progress in this field. The findings of this study provide a valuable reference for understanding developmental pathways in this field of research.

Bibliometric analysis of global performance and trends of research on combined sewer overflows (CSOs) from 1990 to 2022

Combined sewer overflows (CSOs) are one of the main sources of pollution in urban water systems and significantly impede the restoration of water body functionalities within urban rivers and lakes. To understand the research and frontier trends of CSOs comprehensively and systematically, a visual statistical analysis of the literature related to CSOs in the Web of Science core database from 1990 to 2022 was conducted using the bibliometric method using HistCite Pro and VOSviewer. The results reveal a total of 1,209 pertinent publications related to CSOs from 1990 to 2022, and the quantity of CSOs-related publications indicated an increasing trend. Investigations of the distribution and fate of typical pollutants in CSOs and their ecological effects on receiving waters and studies on pollution control technologies (source reduction, process control, and end-of-pipe treatment) are the current focus of CSOs research. CSOs pollution control technologies based on source reduction and the monitoring and control of emerging contaminants are at the forefront of scientific investigations on CSOs. This study systematically and comprehensively summarized current research topics and future research directions of CSOs, thus providing a reference for CSOs control and water environment management research.

Application of three-dimensional printing in cardiovascular diseases: a bibliometric analysis

AIM

This paper aimed to explore the application of three-dimensional (3D) printing in cardiovascular diseases, to reach an insight in this field and prospect the future trend.

METHODS

The articles were selected from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Excel 2019, VOSviewer 1.6.16, and CiteSpace 6.1.R6 were used to analyze the information.

RESULTS

A total of 467 papers of 3D printing in cardiovascular diseases were identified, and the first included literature appeared in 2000. A total of 692 institutions from 52 countries participated in the relevant research, while the United States of America contributed to 160 articles and were in a leading position. The most productive institution was Curtin University , and Zhonghua Sun who has posted the most articles ( n =8) was also from there. The Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine published most papers ( n =25). The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery coveted the most citations ( n =520). Related topics of frontiers will still focus on congenital heart disease, valvular heart disease, and left atrial appendage closure.

CONCLUSIONS

The authors summarized the publication information of the application of 3D printing in cardiovascular diseases related literature from 2000 to 2023, including country and institution of origin, authors, and publication journal. This study can reflect the current hotspots and novel directions for the application of 3D printing in cardiovascular diseases.

The use of food additives as green and environmental-friendly anti-corrosion inhibitors for protection of metals and alloys: a review

Corrosion inhibitors have offered new opportunities to bring positive impacts on our society, especially when it has helped in protecting metals against corrosion in an aqueous solution. Unfortunately, the commonly known corrosion inhibitors used to protect metals or alloys against corrosion are invariably related to one or more drawbacks such as the employment of hazardous anti-corrosion agents, leakage of anti-corrosion agents in aqueous solution, and high solubility of anti-corrosion agents in water. Over the years, using food additives as anti-corrosion agents have drawn interest as it offers biocompatibility, less toxic, and promising applications. In general, food additives are considered safe for human consumption worldwide, and it was rigorously tested and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Nowadays, researchers are more interested in innovating and using green, less toxic, and economical corrosion inhibitors in metal and alloy protection. As such, we have reviewed the use of food additives to protect metals and alloys against corrosion. The current review is significant and differs from the previous review articles made on corrosion inhibitors, in which the new role of food additives is highlighted as green and environmental-friendly substances in the protection of metals and alloys against corrosion. It is anticipated that the next generation will be utilizing non-toxic and sustainable anti-corrosion agents, in which food additives might be the potential to fulfill the green chemistry goals.

The Global research of protein post-translational modifications in the cancer field: A bibliometric and visualized study

Objectives

Protein post-translational modifications (PTMs) are closely associated with tumorigenesis, targeting PTMs of key proteins might be the focus of antitumor drug discovery. This study aimed to analyze the research progress on protein PTMs in tumorigenesis by performing qualitative and quantitative evaluations.

Methods

The Web of Science Core Collection was selected as the database, and Science Citation Index Expanded was selected as the citation index. Visualization tools such as VOSviewer, CiteSpace, HistCite, and Online Analysis Platform of Bibliometrics were used to deeply explore the information of the retrieved research papers and analyze them in terms of research trends and main aspects of research.

Results

The search yielded 3777 relevant articles. The results showed that the total number of PTMs related papers in cancer field has been increasing annually, with the largest number of papers published in the United States of America. The co-word cluster analysis showed that the research on PTMs and tumorigenesis was primarily focused on the following four areas, mechanism, histone, P53, key Technologies. Tumor metabolism, autophagy, and protein-protein interaction, histone ubiquitination have become new research topics.

Conclusion

This study provides an important reference for the research direction and selection of topics of interest in the PTMs of cancer field.

Bibliometric analysis on microbial corrosion in dentistry

Abstract: Aim: The present bibliometric analysis was conducted to find the evidence regarding microbial corrosion in dentistry since corrosion by whatever means affect the intraoral performance of the metallic appliances. Materials and methods: Material and methods: Dimensions software was used to search for published literature pertaining to the keywords “microbial corrosion” AND “dentistry”. Two reviewers assessed the articles in terms of year of publication, authors, country of origin, journal of publication, and the affiliated institutions of the authors as well as their collaborations and the most cited publications. Results: The search revealed a total of 3,118 articles between the years 2000 to 2022. The number of publications was on the rising pattern with a spike between 2004-2007, again with a small spike between 2014 and 2016 and then a steep increase from 2017 onwards.  The publications were almost equally split between Engineering science and Medical Sciences. United States topped the list of countries with 378 documents with total link strength of 106224. Sao Paulo University topped the list in terms of organizations with total link strength of 12722. The journal of Anatomia Histologia Embryologia topped with 136 publications followed by Materials with 94 publications. Valentim from Brazil topped the authors with 22 publications. Conclusion: Microbial corrosion is needs equal concentration as any other forms of intraoral corrosion given that oral cavity is loaded with huge varieties of microorganisms with some of them known to cause microbial corrosion like sulfate reducing bacteria. The recent decline in research and publications in this field especially in 2022 is concerning. More studies are needed to learn more on microbial corrosion and its effects in dentistry.  Keywords: microbial corrosion, dentistry, sulfate reducing bacteria  

Investigating the effects of environment, corrosion degree, and distribution of corrosive microbial communities on service-life of refined oil pipelines

Although the potential corrosive microbial communities of the refined oil pipelines can cause pipeline failure which directly threatens on soil and water environment, few studies have been published in this field. Therefore, the long-distance on-site internal corrosion detection and high-throughput sequencing techniques were employed in this study to investigate the distribution shifts of the corrosive microbial communities on the inner wall of a refined oil pipeline and its impact on the internal corrosion. The microorganisms colonizing on the inner wall of the pipeline showed significant distribution differences between the axial direction of the relative elevation and radial direction of the cross-section. On the inner wall, the high diversity and the abundance of the corrosive microbial communities induced serious microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), while the chemical corrosion and the synergy of the corrosive microbial communities accelerated the internal corrosion of the refined oil pipeline. A corrosion zone model has been proposed, which divides the pipeline cross-section into the sediment, the water-oil interface, the gas-oil interface, and the oil fully immersed zones. Therefore, the relationships between the environment, corrosion degree, and distribution characteristics of the corrosive microbial communities in the pipeline were analyzed. This research exhibited the importance of the distribution characteristics of the corrosive microorganisms on the inner wall of the refined oil pipelines. Its internal corrosion behavior was accurately explored, while providing a basis for controlling the corrosive microbial communities.

Microbiologically Induced Concrete Corrosion: A Concise Review of Assessment Methods, Effects, and Corrosion-Resistant Coating Materials

Microbiologically induced concrete corrosion (in wastewater pipes) occurs mainly because of the diffusion of aggressive solutions and in situ production of sulfuric acid by microorganisms. The prevention of concrete biocorrosion usually requires modification of the mix design or the application of corrosion-resistant coatings, which requires a fundamental understanding of the corrosion process. In this regard, a state-of-the-art review on the subject is presented in this paper, which firstly details the mechanism of microbial deterioration, followed by assessment methods to characterize biocorrosion and its effects on concrete properties. Different types of corrosion-resistant coatings are also reviewed to prevent biocorrosion in concrete sewer and waste-water pipes. At the end, concluding remarks, research gaps, and future needs are discussed, which will help to overcome the challenges and possible environmental risks associated with biocorrosion.

Global Trends and Hotspots in Esketamine Research: A Bibliometric Analysis of Past and Estimation of Future Trends

Background

Being the S-enantiomer of racemic ketamine, esketamine is found to be effective for sedation, analgesia, and treating depression. However, there is no comprehensive bibliometric analysis about esketamine research. In this study, we aimed to determine the scientific output and emerging topics related to esketamine.

Methods

Esketamine-related articles and reviews that published between 2000 and 2020 were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database, using key word search of “esketamine” “esketamine hydrochloride”, “s-ketamine”, “S(+)-ketamine”, “(S)-ketamine”, or “(–)-ketamine”. Various bibliographic elements were collected, including the annual number of publications, citation frequency, countries/regions, institutions, authors, journals, and keywords. Two sorts of scientometric software, namely VOS viewer and CiteSpace, were used to conduct bibliometric and knowledge-map analyses.

Results

A total of 683 publications were included in the current study. We found the number of publications in esketamine research field had increased annually since 2016. The United States was the leader in this field, with the highest publications number (162, 23.72%), total citations (3504/9713, 36.08%) and H-index (40). The most productive institution was Chiba University in Japan, and esketamine-related papers were mainly published in the journal Anesthesia & Analgesia. The keyword co-occurrence analysis showed that keywords relevant to depression were the most frequent. Moreover, all identified keywords could be divided into four clusters, with the research focus gradually shifting from cluster of “anesthesia and analgesia detection” to “depression treatment effect.”.

Conclusion

The past two decades have shown a marked increase in esketamine research. The United States maintained a top position worldwide, making the most significant contributions in the field of esketamine research. The contributions and collaborations of Asian countries have continuously increased and is a strong area of growth as well as development in recent years. Additionally, the emerging hotspots of esketamine research concentrate on clarifying its depression treatment effect.
