Degradation and regeneration inhibition of PCDD/Fs in incineration fly ash by low-temperature thermal technology

Low-temperature thermal degradation of PCDD/Fs for incineration fly ash (IFA), as a novel and emerging technology approach, offers promising features of high degradation efficiency and low energy consumption, presenting enormous potential for application in IFA resource utilization processes. This review summarizes the concentrations, congener distributions, and heterogeneity characteristics of PCDD/Fs in IFA from municipal, medical, and hazardous waste incineration. A comparative analysis of five PCDD/Fs degradation technologies is conducted regarding their characteristics, industrial potential, and applicability. From the perspective of low-temperature degradation mechanisms, pathways to enhance PCDD/Fs degradation efficiency and inhibit their regeneration reactions are discussed in detail. Finally, the challenges to achieve low-temperature degradation of PCDD/Fs for IFA with high-efficiency are prospected. This review seeks to explore new opportunities for the detoxification and resource utilization of IFA by implementing more efficient and viable low-temperature degradation technologies.

Changes of Nitrate Activity and Byproduct Distribution Characteristics for Synergistic NOx and Dioxin Abatement over V2O5/AC Catalyst

The simultaneous removal of NOx and dioxins has been considered an economical and effective technology of controlling multipollutant flue gas in the context of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality". However, this technology has not yet been implemented in practical situations, because the interactive relationship between the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) reaction and dioxin catalytic oxidation lacks a deep understanding, especially on a carbon-based catalyst. In this research, the influence of NO and NH3 on the oxidation characteristics and byproducts distribution of dibenzofuran (DBF) was studied on V2O5/AC catalyst. Results indicated that NH3 has a stronger inhibition effect for DBF catalytic oxidation than NO due to obvious competitive adsorption between NH3 and DBF on the V2O5/AC catalyst. In addition, although both NO and NH3 inhibit the complete degradation of DBF, their effects on the byproduct distribution are not consistent. NO primarily affects the level of oxygen-containing byproducts, while NH3 primarily affects the level of alkane byproducts. Furthermore, the SCR reaction activity demonstrated a reduction when DBF was present. The occupation of V2O5 sites by DBF and its oxidizing intermediates has hindered the production of monodentate nitrate and the reactivity of bridged nitrate, resulting in a decrease in SCR activity via the L-H mechanism. This work aims to provide theoretical guidance for simultaneous removal of NOx and dioxins in industrial fumes.

Ce doped V-W/Ti as selective catalytic reduction catalysts for cement kiln flue gas denitration

In cement industry, the selection of catalyst temperature window and the inhibition effect of dust composition in flue gas on catalyst are the key issues of flue gas denitrification. In this article, a pilot study with Ce doped V-W/Ti catalyst on the removal of NOx by selective catalytic reduction with ammonia (NH3-SCR) from the cement kiln flue gas was presented. Cement kiln dust loading on catalysts obviously decreased the NO conversion in the absence of SO2 and H2O, while the denitration efficiency restored from 75 to 98% at 280 ℃ after SO2 and H2O introduced into the reaction system, which mainly because the SO2 may enhance the acidic site on the catalyst surface, and prefer to be bonded with the coordinated Ca species, releasing the active sites poisoned by dust. The NH3-temperature programmed desorption (NH3-TPD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and H2-temperature programmed reduction (H2-TPR) detections were performed to reveal that the appropriate Ce and W ratios catalyst contributed better denitrification activity. The optimum ratio of Ce doped catalyst was amplified to form the standard honeycomb monomer catalyst, and then, the activity of catalyst was verified on the side line of cement kiln. The effect of temperature and space velocity on denitrification efficiency was investigated, and the denitration efficiency reached to 92.5% at 300℃ and 3000 h-1 space velocity. Moreover, the life of catalyst was verified and predicted by GM (1,1) grey model. The study realized the innovation from the laboratory data rules to the industrial pilot application, providing positive promoting value for the industrial large-scale demonstration application of the catalyst.

Investigation on low energy-consumed embedded selective catalytic reduction technology for pelletizing flue gas and the CO2 emission reduction assessment

Based on the unique technique property of grate-kiln pellet production process and its demand of ultra-low emission of NO_x, a low energy-consumed embedded selective catalytic reduction (SCR) denitration technology was proposed. The temperature of the NO_x-containing tributary flue gas was 350-500 °C, which basically accorded with the temperature range of SCR by V₂O₅-based catalyst. Considering the potential inhibition effect of high SO₂ concentration (8000-10000 mg/m³) and metal-containing dust in the pelletizing flue gas, the catalyst compositions were optimized to V₂O₅ (0.5%) and WO₃ (5%), giving NO conversion over 90% with low yield of N₂O by-product. Compared with the low-medium temperature SCR technology, it was no longer necessary to reheat the flue gas, showing a remarkable CO₂ emission reduction effect. The CO₂ emission reduction ratios were 94% and 66% contributed by the decrease of fuel and electricity consumption for the embedded SCR technology, respectively. The operating cost was also greatly reduced from 11.4 CNY/t-pellet to 3.1 CNY/t-pellet (Chinese Yuan).
