Abstract
The urgent need to address global carbon emissions and promote sustainable energy solutions has led to a growing interest in carbon dioxide (CO2) conversion technologies. Among these, the transformation of CO2 into methanol (MeOH) has gained prominence as an effective mitigation strategy. This review paper provides a comprehensive exploration of recent advances and applications in the direct utilization of CO2 for the synthesis of MeOH, encompassing various aspects from catalysts to market analysis, environmental impact, and future prospects. We begin by introducing the current state of CO2 mitigation strategies, highlighting the significance of carbon recycling through MeOH production. The paper delves into the chemistry and technology behind the conversion of CO2 into MeOH, encompassing key themes such as feedstock selection, material and energy supply, and the various conversion processes, including chemical, electrochemical, photochemical, and photoelectrochemical pathways. An in-depth analysis of heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts for MeOH synthesis is provided, shedding light on the advantages and drawbacks of each. Furthermore, we explore diverse routes for CO2 hydrogenation into MeOH, emphasizing the technological advances and production processes associated with this sustainable transformation. As MeOH holds a pivotal role in a wide range of chemical applications and emerges as a promising transportation fuel, the paper explores its various chemical uses, transportation, storage, and distribution, as well as the evolving MeOH market. The environmental and energy implications of CO2 conversion to MeOH are discussed, including a thermodynamic analysis of the process and cost and energy evaluations for large-scale catalytic hydrogenation.

Abstract
The concurrent utilization of an adsorbent and absorbent for carbon dioxide (CO2) adsorption with synergistic effects presents a promising technique for CO2 capture. Here, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazole acetate ([Bmim][Ac]), with a high affinity for CO2, and the molecular sieve SAPO-34 were selected. The impregnation method was used to composite the hybrid samples of [Bmim][Ac]/SAPO-34, and the pore structure and surface property of prepared samples were characterized. The quantity and kinetics of the sorbed CO2 for loaded samples were measured using thermogravimetric analysis. The study revealed that SAPO-34 could retain its pristine structure after [Bmim][Ac] loading. The CO2 uptake of the loaded sample was 1.879 mmol g-1 at 303 K and 1 bar, exhibiting a 20.6% rise compared to that of the pristine SAPO-34 recording 1.558 mmol g-1. The CO2 uptake kinetics of the loaded samples were also accelerated, and the apparent mass transfer resistance for CO2 sorption was significantly reduced by 11.2% compared with that of the pure [Bmim][Ac]. The differential scanning calorimetry method revealed that the loaded sample had a lower CO2 desorption heat than that of the pure [Bmim][Ac], and the CO2 desorption heat of the loaded samples was between 30.6 and 40.8 kJ mol-1. The samples exhibited good cyclic stability. This material displays great potential for CO2 capture applications, facilitating the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Unveiling the mechanisms behind high CO 2 adsorption by the selection of suitable ionic liquids incorporated into a ZIF-8 metal organic framework: A computational approach. Abstract
There is growing focus on the crucial task of effectively capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere to mitigate environmental consequences. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been used to replace many conventional materials in gas separation, and the incorporation of ionic liquids (ILs) into porous MOFs has shown promise as a new technique for improving CO2 capture and separation. However, the driving force underlying the electronic modulation of MOF nanostructures and the mechanisms behind their high CO2 adsorption remain unclear. This study reports the effect of encapsulating different imidazolium ILs in porous ZIF-8, to clarify the adsorption mechanism of CO2 using density functional theory (DFT)-based approaches. For this purpose, a range of anions, including bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide [NTf2], methanesulfonate [MeSO3], and acetate [AC], were combined with the 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium [EMIM]+ cation. [EMIM]+-based ILs@ZIF-8 composites were computationally investigated to identify suitable materials for CO2 capture. First, the intermolecular and intramolecular interactions between [EMIM]+ and different anions were examined in detail, and their effects on CO2 adsorption were explored. Subsequently, the integration of these ILs into the ZIF-8 solid structure was studied to reveal how their interactions influenced the CO2 adsorption behavior. Our results demonstrate that the incorporation of ILs strongly affects the adsorption capability of CO2, which is highly dependent on the nature of the ILs inside the ZIF-8 framework. DFT simulations further confirmed that the incorporation of ILs into ZIF-8 led to superior CO2 capture compared to isolated ILs and pristine ZIF-8. This improvement was attributed to the mutual interactions between the ILs and ZIF-8, which effectively fine-tuned CO2 adsorption within the composite structure. This understanding may act as a general guide for gaining more insight into the interfacial interactions between ILs and ZIFs structures and how these molecular-level interactions can help predict the selection of ILs for CO2 adsorption and separation, thereby addressing environmental challenges with greater precision and effectiveness.

Abstract
The present work demonstrates the potential for improved CO2 capture capabilities of ionic liquids (ILs) by supporting them on a polysulfone polymeric matrix. CO2 is one of the main gases responsible for the greenhouse effect and is a focus of The European Commission, which committed to diminishing its emission to 55% by 2023. Various ILs based on combinations of 1-butyl-3-methyl- imidazolium cations and different anions (BMI·X) were synthesized and supported on a polysulfone porous membrane. The influence of the membrane structure and the nature of ILs on the CO2 capture abilities were investigated. It was found that the membrane's internal morphology and its surface characteristics influence its ILs sorption capacity and CO2 solubility. In most of the studied configurations, supporting ILs on porous structures increased their contact surface and gas adsorption compared to the bulk ILs. The phenomenon was strongly pronounced in the case of ILs of high viscosity, where supporting them on porous structures resulted in a CO2 solubility value increase of 10×. Finally, the highest CO2 solubility value (0.24 molCO2/molIL) was obtained with membranes bearing supported ILs containing dicarboxylate anion (BMI.MAL).
