Abstract
Ketyl radicals are valuable reactive intermediates because they allow carbonyl chemistry to be extended beyond traditional electrophilic reactivity through simple single-electron reduction to a nucleophilic radical. However, this pathway is challenging due to the large negative reduction potentials of carbonyls, thus requiring highly reducing conditions. Herein, we describe the development of an alternative strategy to access ketyl radicals from aldehydes, which avoids the reduction pathway by instead proceeding via single-electron oxidation and desulfination of α-hydroxy sulfinates. These redox-active aldehyde adducts are generated in situ through the addition of sulfoxylate (SO22-) to aldehydes and possess low oxidation potentials, thereby facilitating ketyl radical formation and circumventing the need for strongly reducing conditions. We demonstrate the application of this sulfoxylate-mediated ketyl radical formation in ketyl-olefin coupling reactions.

Abstract
Chiral azaarene compounds are extremely important due to their prevalence in pharmaceutical ingredients. Herein, an array of chiral molecules bearing azaaryl groups is synthesized in moderate-to-excellent yields with moderate-to-excellent Z/E ratios, high dr, and excellent enantioselectivity by a copper(I)-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition of 1,4-dienes to (E)-β-substituted alkenyl azaarenes. The reaction is carried out under mild proton-transfer conditions, which enjoys very high atom economy. Moreover, the reaction features a broad substrate scope on (E)-α,β-unsaturated azaarenes as various azaarenes are well tolerated, such as benzothiazole, thiazole, N-methyl-benzimidazole, benzoxazole, quinoline, isoquinoline, pyrimidine, pyrazine, and triazine. Interestingly, the reaction with (Z)-α,β-unsaturated azaarenes affords the same products in excellent results but with a reversed absolute configuration. DFT calculations indicate that the C-C bond-forming nucleophilic addition is a Z-/E- and enantio-selectivities-determining step and provides a rationale for the origin of selectivities. At last, the synthetic utilities of the product are showcased by several transformations, including olefin metathesis, [4 + 2] cyclization, [2 + 1] cyclization, and cleavage of the benzothiazole ring.

Abstract
We report an enantioselective reductive cross coupling of electron-deficient olefins. Using a visible-light-driven cooperative photoredox and chiral Brønsted acid-catalyzed reaction with a Hantzsch ester as the terminal reductant, various cyclic and acyclic enones with 2-vinylpyridines were converted in high yields (up to 93%) to a wide range of enantioenriched pyridine derivatives featuring diverse γ-tertiary carbon stereocenters with good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99% ee).
