Abstract
In order to protect the copper against corrosion, a novel corrosion inhibitor known as diphenyl ((2-aminoethyl) amino) (4-methoxyphenyl) methyl) phosphonate (DAMP) was developed. Acid solutions of HCl and H2SO4 were the aggressive solutions employed in this study. Analysis using the FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 31P-NMR, 13C-NMR and BET confirmed that the DAMP was successfully synthesized. The anti-corrosion capabilities of DAMP are evaluated using a combination of chemical, electrochemical and quantum studies. The DAMP has been found to be crucial in preventing the corrosion of copper in both HCl and H2SO4 acid. This was obviously implied by the observation that the corrosion rate of copper in acid solutions decreased when DAMP was added. It is significant to note that 180 ppm produced the highest levels of inhibiting efficiency (96.6% for HCl and 95.2% for H2SO4). The tendency of DAMP to adsorb on the surface of copper through its hetero-atoms (O, N, and P) is the main factor for the anti-corrosion capabilities of DAMP. Results from SEM/EDX tests supported this. The actual adsorption takes place via various active centers, physical and chemical mechanisms that are coordinated with the estimated quantum parameters. Additionally, the adsorption of DAMP adheres to the Langmuir isotherm.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Eukaryotic genomes are composed of simple, repetitive sequences, including satellite DNAs (satDNA), which are noncoding sequences arranged in tandem arrays. These sequences play a crucial role in genomic functions and innovations, influencing processes such as the maintenance of nuclear material, the formation of heterochromatin and the differentiation of sex chromosomes. In this genomic era, advances in next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics tools have facilitated the exhaustive cataloging of repetitive elements in genomes, particularly in non-model species. This study focuses on the satDNA content of Ancistrus sp., a diverse species of fish from the Loricariidae family. The genus Ancistrus shows significant karyotypic evolution, with extensive variability from the ancestral diploid number. METHODS By means of bioinformatic approaches, 40 satDNA families in Ancistrus sp., constituting 5.19% of the genome were identified. Analysis of the abundance and divergence landscape revealed diverse profiles, indicating recent amplification and homogenization of these satDNA sequences. RESULTS The most abundant satellite, AnSat1-142, constitutes 2.1% of the genome, while the least abundant, AnSat40-52, represents 0.0034%. The length of the monomer repeat varies from 16 to 142 base pairs, with an average length of 61 bp. These results contribute to understanding the genomic dynamics and evolution of satDNAs in Ancistrus sp. CONCLUSION The study underscores the variability of satDNAs between fish species and provides valuable information on chromosome organization and the evolution of repetitive elements in non-model organisms.

Lakhotia SC. C-value paradox: Genesis in misconception that natural selection follows anthropocentric parameters of 'economy' and 'optimum'. BBA ADVANCES 2023; 4:100107. Abstract
C-value paradox refers to the lack of correlation between biological complexity and the intuitively expected protein-coding genomic information or DNA content. Here I discuss five questions about this paradox: i) Do biologically complex organisms carry more protein-coding genes? ii) Does variable accumulation of selfish/ junk/ parasitic DNA underlie the c-value paradox? iii) Can nucleoskeletal or nucleotypic function of DNA explain the enigma of orders of magnitude high levels of DNA in some 'lower' taxa or in taxonomically related species? iv) Can the newly understood noncoding but functional DNA explain the c-value paradox? and, v) Does natural selection uniformly apply the anthropocentric parameters for 'optimum' and 'economy'? Answers to Q.1-5 are largely negative. Biology presents numerous 'anomalous' examples where the same end function/ phenotype is attained in different organisms through astoundingly diverse ways that appear 'illogical' in our perceptions. Such evolutionary oddities exist because natural selection, unlike a designer, exploits random and stochastic events to modulate the existing system. Consequently, persistence of the new-found 'solution/s' often appear bizarre, uneconomic, and therefore, paradoxical to human logic. The unexpectedly high c-values in diverse organisms are irreversible evolutionary accidents that persisted, and the additional DNA often got repurposed over the evolutionary time scale. Therefore, the c-value paradox is a redundant issue. Future integrative biological studies should address evolutionary mechanisms and processes underlying sporadic DNA expansions/ contractions, and how the newly acquired DNA content has been repurposed in diverse groups.

Novel Corrosion Inhibitor for Carbon Steel in Acidic Solutions Based on α-Aminophosphonate (Chemical, Electrochemical, and Quantum Studies). Molecules 2023; 28:4962. Abstract
α-aminophosphonate (α-AP) is used as a novel corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel. The aggressive media applied in this study are HCl and H2SO4 acid solutions. The findings indicate that the morphology of the α-AP compound is cubic, with particles ranging in size from 17 to 23 μm. FT-IR, 1HNMR, 31PNMR, and 13CNMR analysis confirmed the synthesis of the α-AP molecule. It has been discovered that the compound α-AP plays an important role in inhibiting the corrosion of carbon steel in both HCl and H2SO4 acids. This was identifiably inferred from the fact that the addition of α-AP compound decreased the corrosion rate. It is important to report that the maximum inhibition efficiency (92.4% for HCl and 95.7% for H2SO4) was obtained at 180 ppm. The primary factor affecting the rate at which steel specimens corrode in acidic electrolytes is the tendency of α-AP compounds to adsorb on the surface of steel through their heteroatoms (O, N, and P). This was verified by SEM/EDX results. The adsorption actually occurs through physical and chemical mechanisms via different active centers which are matched with the calculated quantum parameters. In addition, the adsorption of α-AP follows the Langmuir isotherm.

Abstract
The release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress is associated with the development of many ailments, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer. The causal link between oxidative stress and cancer is well established and antioxidants are suggested as a protective mechanism against cancer development. Recently, an increase in the consumption of antioxidant supplements was observed globally. The main sources of these antioxidants include fruits, vegetables, and beverage. Herbal infusions are highly popular beverages consumed daily for different reasons. Studies showed the potent antioxidant effects of plants used in the preparation of some herbal infusions. Such herbal infusions represent an important source of antioxidants and can be used as a dietary protection against cancer. However, uncontrolled consumption of herbal infusions may cause toxicity and reduced antioxidant activity. In this review, eleven widely consumed herbal infusions were evaluated for their antioxidant capacities, anticancer potential and possible toxicity. These herbal infusions are highly popular and consumed as daily drinks in different countries. Studies discussed in this review will provide a solid ground for researchers to have better understanding of the use of herbal infusions to reduce oxidative stress and as protective supplements against cancer development.

Abstract
Although in recent years the study of gene expression variation in the absence of genetic or environmental cues or gene expression heterogeneity has intensified considerably, many basic and applied biological fields still remain unaware of how useful the study of gene expression heterogeneity patterns might be for the characterization of biological systems and/or processes. Largely based on the modulator effect chromatin compaction has for gene expression heterogeneity and the extensive changes in chromatin compaction known to occur for specialized cells that are naturally or artificially induced to revert to less specialized states or dedifferentiate, I recently hypothesized that processes that concur with cell dedifferentiation would show an extensive reduction in gene expression heterogeneity. The confirmation of the existence of such trend could be of wide interest because of the biomedical and biotechnological relevance of cell dedifferentiation-based processes, i.e., regenerative development, cancer, human induced pluripotent stem cells, or plant somatic embryogenesis. Here, I report the first empirical evidence consistent with the existence of an extensive reduction in gene expression heterogeneity for processes that concur with cell dedifferentiation by analyzing transcriptome dynamics along forearm regenerative development in Ambystoma mexicanum or axolotl. Also, I briefly discuss on the utility of the study of gene expression heterogeneity dynamics might have for the characterization of cell dedifferentiation-based processes, and the engineering of tools that afforded better monitoring and modulating such processes. Finally, I reflect on how a transitional reduction in gene expression heterogeneity for dedifferentiated cells can promote a long-term increase in phenotypic heterogeneity following cell dedifferentiation with potential adverse effects for biomedical and biotechnological applications.
