Abstract
New valproate Ir(III) and Rh(III) half-sandwich conjugates containing a C,N-phenylbenzimidazole chelated ligand have been synthesized and characterized. The valproic acid conjugation to organometallic fragments seems to switch on the antibacterial activity of the complexes towards Enterococcus faecium and Staphylococcus aureus Gram-positive bacteria.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION One of the most robust global challenges and difficulties in the 21st century is cancer. Treating cancer is a goal which continues to motivate researchers to innovate in design and development of new treatments to help battle the disease. OBJECTIVES Our objective was developing new antiapoptotic hybrids based on biologically active heterocyclic motifs "benzimidazole?oxadiazole-chalcone hybrids'' that had shown promising ability to inhibit EGFR and induce apoptosis. We expected these scaffolds to display anticancer activity via inhibition of BRAF, EGFR, and Bcl-2 and induction of apoptosis through activation of caspases. METHODS The new hybrids 7a-x were evaluated for their anti-proliferative, EGFR & BRAFV600E inhibitory, and apoptosis induction activities were detected. Docking study & dynamic stimulation into EGFR and BRAFV600E were studied. RESULTS All hybrids exhibited remarkable cell growth inhibition on the four tested cell lines with IC50 ranging from 0.95 μM to 12.50 μM. which was comparable to Doxorubicin. Compounds 7k-m had the most potent EGFR inhibitory activity. While, compounds 7e, 7g, 7k and 7l showed good inhibitory activities against BRAFV600E. Furthermore, Compounds 7k, 7l, and 7m increased Caspases 3,8 & 9, Cytochrome C and Bax levels and decreased Bcl-2 protein levels. Compounds 7k-m received the best binding scores and showed binding modes that were almost identical to each other and comparable with that of the co-crystalized Erlotinib in EGFR and BRAF active sites. CONCLUSION Compounds 7k-m could be used as potential apoptotic anti-proliferative agents upon further optimization.

Abstract
Improving lipophilicity for drugs to penetrate the lipid membrane and decreasing bacterial and fungal coinfections for patients with cancer pose challenges in the drug development process. Here, a series of new N-alkylated-2-(substituted phenyl)-1H-benzimidazole derivatives were synthesized and characterized by 1H and 13C NMR, FTIR, and HRMS spectrum analyses to address these difficulties. All the compounds were evaluated for their antiproliferative, antibacterial, and antifungal activities. Results indicated that compound 2g exhibited the best antiproliferative activity against the MDA-MB-231 cell line and also displayed significant inhibition at minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 8, 4, and 4 μg mL-1 against Streptococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus compared with amikacin. The antifungal data of compounds 1b, 1c, 2e, and 2g revealed their moderate activities toward Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger, with MIC values of 64 μg mL-1 for both strains. Finally, the molecular docking study found that 2g interacted with crucial amino acids in the binding site of complex dihydrofolate reductase with nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate.

Abstract
A one-pot method for the synthesis of silylsubstituted/methylsubstituted indolo[2,1-a]isoquinolin-6(5H)-ones and benzimidazo[2,1-a]isoquinoline-6(5H)-ones via copper(II)-initiated silylation/methylation of 2-arylindoles and 2-arylbenzimidazoles was developed. In this procedure, the C-Si bond and C-C bond were constructed by radical addition and cyclization. A series of 2-arylindole and 2-arylbenzimidazole derivatives were facilely transformed to indolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines and benzimidazo[2,1-a]isoquinolines in 39-83% yields.

Abstract
Three new classes of ionic organoselenium compounds containing cationic benzimidazolium and imidazolium ring systems with selenocyanates as counterions are described. The cyclization of N,N'-disubstituted benzimidazolium and imidazolium bromides having N-(CH2)2-Br and N-(CH2)3-Br groups in the presence of potassium selenocyanate (KSeCN) led to formation of the corresponding selenazolium selenocyanates (21a, 21b, 22a, and 22b) and selenazinium selenocyanates (21c, 21d, 22c, and 22d). However, the open-chain selenocyanates with additional selenocyanate counterions (21e, 21f, 22e, and 22f) were formed from the N,N'-disubstituted benzimidazolium and imidazolium bromides having N-(CH2)6-Br groups. Mechanistic studies were carried out to understand the feasibility of such cyclization processes in the presence of KSeCN. The compounds were studied further for their potencies to catalytically reduce H2O2 in the presence of thiols. Interestingly, the cyclic selenazolium (21a, 21b, 22a, and 22b) and selenazinium compounds (21c, 21d, 22c, and 22d) exhibited significantly higher antioxidant activities than the corresponding acyclic selenocyanates (21f, 22e, and 22f). Selected compounds (22d and 22e) were further evaluated for their potencies in modulating the intracellular level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in a representative macrophage cell line (RAW 264.7). Owing to the cationic nature of compounds, they may target and scavenge mitochondrial ROS in the cellular medium.

Abstract
Supramolecular nanoassemblies of an AIEE-ICT-active pyrazine derivative (TETPY) having strong absorption in the visible region and excellent transportability have been utilized as an efficient photoredox catalytic system for the synthesis of a variety of benzimidazoles having electron-withdrawing/electron-releasing/aliphatic groups under "metal-free" conditions. The reaction protocol involves the successful harvesting of visible light by TETPY assemblies to catalyze the coupling of o-phenylenediamine/substituted diamines and substituted aromatic/heterocyclic/aliphatic aldehydes under aerial conditions using mixed aqueous media as the reaction solvent. TETPY assemblies could activate aerial oxygen to generate superoxide for completing the vital proton abstraction step without the need for any external metal/base/oxidant. Moreover, all the products are purified by recrystallization from organic solvents. The TETPY assemblies also exhibited high efficiency in catalyzing the synthesis of 2-substituted benzothiazoles and quinazolines in excellent yields.

Abstract
A class of binuclear N-fused hybrid scaffolds was constructed by the reaction of 2-(2-bromoaryl)- and 2-(2-bromovinyl)benzimidazoles with aryl isocyanates as building blocks in the presence of a base under microwave irradiation. A nucleophilic addition followed by an unprecedented transition-metal-free C(sp2)-N coupling is proposed as a reaction pathway of this green process.
