Abstract
Preparation of new green oilfield chemicals based on ionic liquids (ILs) having higher demulsification efficiency to solve the heavy crude oil brine water emulsions became a target in the petroleum research studies and industry. In the present work, the combination of pyridinium, imidazolium, and hydrophilic or hydrophobic moieties in the chemical structure of ILs has been investigated to improve the surface properties of ILs in both bulk solution and interfaces. Aminopyridine was quaternized with cetylbromide and condensed with glyoxal and 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde in acetic acid to prepare imidazolium-pyridinium bromide acetate ionic liquid (IPy-IL). The phenol group of IPy-IL was etherified with tetraethylene glycol to alter its amphiphilicity and synthesize new amphiphiles (AIPy-IL). Their chemical structure, thermal characteristics, and stabilities were characterized. Their aqueous solution performance in seawater was evaluated to investigate their surface activity, aggregation particle sizes, and surface charges. The demulsification performances of the prepared Arabic heavy crude oil seawater emulsions in the presence of different concentrations of IPy-IL and AIPy-IL were evaluated and proved by interfacial tension, particle size, and demulsification efficiencies at a temperature of 45 °C. The data concluded that AIPy-IL was an effective demulsifier for different crude oil seawater emulsion compositions at a low injection dose and temperature of 100 ppm and 45 °C, which were not report elsewhere.

This
study hypothesized that long carbon chain cationic arginine
(Arg) esters can be considered as toxicologically harmless preservatives.
Arg-esters with C18 and C24 carbon chains, namely,
arginine-oleate (Arg-OL) and arginine-decyltetradecanoate (Arg-DT),
were synthesized. Structures were confirmed by FT-IR, 1H NMR, and mass spectroscopy. Both Arg-esters were tested regarding
hydrophobicity in terms of log Poctanol/water, critical micelle concentration (CMC), biodegradability, cytotoxicity,
hemolysis, and antimicrobial activity against Escherichiacoli (E. coli), Staphylococcusaureus (S. aureus), Bacillussubtilis (B. subtilis),
and Enterococcusfaecalis (E. faecalis). Log Poctanol/water of arginine was raised from −1.9 to 0.3
and 0.6 due to the attachment of C18 and C24 carbon chains, respectively. The critical micelle concentration
of Arg-OL and Arg-DT was 0.52 and 0.013 mM, respectively. Both Arg-esters
were biodegradable by porcine pancreatic lipase. In comparison to
the well-established antimicrobials, benzalkonium chloride (BAC) and
cetrimide, Arg-esters showed significantly less cytotoxic and hemolytic
activity. Both esters exhibited pronounced antimicrobial properties
against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria comparable to that
of BAC and cetrimide. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of
Arg-esters was <50 μg mL–1 against all
tested microbes. Overall, results showed a high potential of Arg-esters
with long carbon chains as toxicologically harmless novel preservatives.

Abstract
A novel composite unit of enhanced synergism that rises from the use of a cationic pyridinium structure to attract anionic bacteria to three N-halamine structures was designed for superior biocidability on recyclable magnetic nanoparticles. Briefly, 5-(4-hydroxybenzylidene)hydantoin (HBH), containing one imide and amide NH bonds, was synthesized by Knoevenagel condensation ofp-hydroxybenzaldehyde with hydantoin. 3-Triethoxysilylpropyl succinic anhydride was ammonolyzed with 4-aminopyridine to introduce a pyridine structure and form an amide NH and a carboxylic acid group that was esterified with HBH to introduce its two NH bonds. The triethoxysilyl groups of the esterification product were hydrolyzed into silanols to condense with the counterparts of different hydrolysates and on silica modified Fe3O4nanoparticles to provide a layer of polymeric modifier. After quaternization of the pyridine and chlorination of NH bonds from each esterification product, the resultant layer is composed of units each of which contains one pyridinium and threeN-halamine sites and exerted higher biocidability against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus than comparable systems including synergistic ones with one cationic center and one N-halamine, demonstrating an enhanced synergism. The biocidal layer had promising stability under quenching-chlorinating cycles and long-term storage. The study affords a strategy for syntheses of more powerful biocidal surfaces.

Abstract
Gastric cancer is one of the common types of cancer around the world which has few therapeutic options. Nitrogen heterocyclic derivatives such as thiazoles are used as the basis for the progression of the drugs. The objective of this study was to synthesize the 1-((3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl) methylene)-2-(4-phenylthiazol-2-yl) hydrazine (TP) conjugating with (3-Chloropropyl) trimethoxysilane (CPTMOS)-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) for anti-cancer activities against gastric AGS cancer cell line. The synthesized Fe3O4@CPTMOS/TP NPs were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, EDX, SEM, TEM and Zeta potential analyses. To evaluate the toxicity of the above compound after AGS cell culture in RPMI1640 medium, the cells were treated at different concentrations for 24 h. The viability of the cells was investigated by MTT assay. Moreover, apoptosis induced by Fe3O4@CPTMOS/TP NPs was assessed by Hoechst 33432 staining, oxygen activity specification evaluation, caspase-3 activity assay, cell cycle analysis and annexin V/PI staining followed by flow cytometry analysis. The IC50 value in AGS cells was estimated to be 95.65 µg/ml. The flow cytometry results of Fe3O4@CPTMOS/TP NPs revealed a large number of cells in the apoptotic regions compared to the control cells and the cells treated with TP. In addition, the amount of ROS production and caspase-3 activity increased in the treated cells with Fe3O4@CPTMOS/TP NPs. The percentage of inhibited cancer cells in the G0/G1 phase increased under the treatment in the binding state to the nonionic iron oxide nanoparticles. Overall, this study showed that Fe3O4@CPTMOS/TP NP had effect on induction of apoptosis and inhibiting the growth of AGS cancer cells. Thus, Fe3O4@CPTMOS/TP NP can be considered as a new anti-cancer candid for next phase of studies on mouse models.

Abstract
A biocidal composite unit with improved synergism, using one cationic quaternary ammonia salt (QAS) site to attract electronegative bacteria to three highly biocidal N-halamine sites, was designed for the first time and attached onto surface of magnetic silica coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles (silica@Fe3O4NPs) for superior biocidability, large killing area, and easy recyclability. Briefly, a compound containing one imide and two amide NH bonds, 2-(2,5-dioxoimidazolidin-4-yl)-N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetamide (DHPA), was prepared by amidation of hydantoin acetic acid with p-aminophenol. A biocidal precursor of one QAS site and three N-halamine sites was then constructed by alcoholysis of 3-triethoxysilylpropyl succinic anhydride with 2-(dimethylamino)ethan-1-ol to introduce a tertiary amine and subsequent esterification with DHPA to introduce three NH bonds. The triethoxysilyl groups in the precursor were hydrolyzed to silanol groups to condense with their counterparts on silica@Fe3O4 NPs. The surface of resultant NPs carried units each contains one QAS site and three N-halamine sites after quaternization and chlorination. The biocidal surface showed superior biocidability against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus than reported systems due to the improved synergism between multiple antibacterial groups of different types and was stable towards quenching-chlorinating process and storage. The successful design opens insight in the syntheses of more powerful biocides.

Abstract
The use of electrogenerated acetonitrile anion allows the alkylation of N-Boc-4-aminopyridine in very high yields, under mild conditions and without by-products. The high reactivity of this base is due to its large tetraethylammonium counterion, which leaves the acetonitrile anion “naked.” The deprotection of the obtained compounds led to high yields in N-alkylated 4-aminopyridines. Nonsymmetrically dialkylated 4-aminopyridines were obtained by subsequent reaction of monoalkylated ones with t-BuOK and alkyl halides, while symmetrically dialkylated 4-aminopyridines were obtained by direct reaction of 4-aminopyridine with an excess of t-BuOK and alkyl halides. Some mono- and dialkyl-4-aminopyridines were selected to evaluate antifungal and antiprotozoal activity; the dialkylated 4-aminopyridines 3ac, 3ae and 3ff showed antifungal towards Cryptococcus neoformans; whereas 3cc, 3ee and 3ff showed antiprotozoal activity towards Leishmania infantum and Plasmodium falciparum.

Abstract
Cationic Mn porphyrins are among the most potent catalytic antioxidants and/or cellular redox modulators. Mn(III) meso-tetrakis(N-ethylpyridinium-2-yl)porphyrin chloride (MnTE-2-PyPCl(5)) is the Mn porphyrin most studied in vivo and has successfully rescued animal models of a variety of oxidative stress-related diseases. The stability of an authentic MnTE-2-PyPCl(5) sample was investigated hereon by thermogravimetric, derivative thermogravimetric, and differential thermal analyses (TG/DTG/DTA), under dynamic air, followed by studies at selected temperatures to evaluate the decomposition path and appropriate conditions for storage and handling of these materials. All residues were analyzed by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and UV-vis spectroscopy. Three thermal processes were observed by TG/DTG. The first event (endothermic) corresponded to dehydration, and did not alter the MnTE-2-PyPCl(5) moiety. The second event (endothermic) corresponded to the loss of EtCl (dealkylation), which was characterized by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The residue at 279°C had UV-vis and TLC data consistent with those of the authentic, completely dealkylated analog, MnT-2-PyPCl. The final, multi-step event corresponded to the loss of the remaining organic matter to yield Mn(3)O(4) which was characterized by IR spectroscopy. Isothermal treatment at 188°C under static air for 3h yielded a mixture of partially dealkylated MnPs and traces of the free-base, dealkylated ligand, H(2)T-2-PyP, which reveals that dealkylation is accompanied by thermal demetallation under static air conditions. Dealkylation was not observed if the sample was heated as a solid or in aqueous solution up to ∼100°C. Whereas moderate heating changes sample composition by loss of H(2)O, the dehydrated sample is indistinguishable from the original sample upon dissolution in water, which indicates that catalytic activity (on Mn basis) remains unaltered. Evidently, dealkylation at high temperature compromises sample activity.
