Abstract
Early diagnosis of infectious diseases is still challenging particularly in a nonlaboratory environment or limited resources areas. Thus, sensitive, inexpensive, and easily handled diagnostic approaches are required. The lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) is commonly used in the screening of infectious diseases despite its poor sensitivity, especially with low pathogenic loads (early stages of infection). This article introduces a novel polymeric material that might help in the enrichment and concentration of pathogens to overcome the LFIA misdiagnosis. To achieve this, we evaluated the efficiency of introducing poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) into immunoglobulin G (IgG) as a model antibody using two different conjugation methods: grafting to (GT) and grafting from (GF). The IgG-PNIPAAm conjugates were characterized using SDS-PAGE, DLS, and temperature-responsive phase transition behavior. SDS-PAGE analysis revealed that the GF method was more efficient in introducing the polymer than the GT method, with calculated polymer introduction ratios of 61% and 34%, respectively. The GF method proved to be less susceptible to steric hindrance and more efficient in introducing high-molecular-weight polymers into proteins. These results are consistent with previous studies comparing the GT and GF methods in similar systems. This study represents an important step toward understanding how the choice of polymer incorporation method affects the properties of IgG-PNIPAAm conjugates. The synthesized polymer allowed binding and enrichment of mouse IgG that was used as a model antigen with a clear LFIA band. On the basis of our findings, this system might help in improving the sensitivity of simple diagnostics.

Abstract
Photoluminescent polymers can be divided into two types of structures: one is the well-known conventional π-conjugated rigid chain polymers bearing π-conjugated chromophores in their side chains, and the other is the common flexible polymers without π-conjugated chromophores in their main or side chains but with a feature of clustering electron-rich and/or dipole groups in their main and/or side chains. In this work, we found a new photoluminescent polymer comprising theophylline (T) and imidazole (I) residues in a suitable ratio in the side chains on the common polystyrenic block (PVB-T/I). We synthesized a block copolymer (denoted as P2) consisting of hydrophobic PVB-T/I and hydrophilic poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), and we investigated its self-assembly into micelles and their micellar features, such as thermo-responsibility, fluorescence emission, pH, and metal ion-dependent photoluminescence, in detail. Especially, the micelles self-assembled from P2 showed intrinsic blue emission which was emitted from the charge transfer association between T and I residues in the intra-chains. Weakening the association by adjustment of the pH or addition of metal ions could evidently reduce the photoluminescence in the micellar state. Very interestingly, among many metal cations, only Pd2+, which can chelate strongly with theophylline, strongly quenched the photoluminescence from the micelles. Therefore, the polymer micelles functioned as an optical sensor for Pd(ii) ion not only by spectroscopy but also with the naked eye.

Abstract
This work focuses on the synthesis of novel tannin-functionalized polypropylene copolymers that are designed to inhibit the oxidation of vegetable oils for potential use as packaging materials. An empty glass Petri dish (control), a chlorinated polypropylene-coated glass Petri dish (control) and a series of the tannin-functionalized polypropylene coated glass Petri dishes overlaid with linseed oil were exposed to air and additional white light. Oligomerization of the oxidized linseed oil was assessed by measuring the flow properties of the exposed oil using a viscometer. The antioxidant effect of the tannic acid grafted polypropylene copolymers (PP-Tann) retarded oligomerization of the linseed oil. The molar mass of the linoleic acid overlaid onto the PP-Tann films was the lowest among the tested samples after each time period indicating that tannin-grafted polypropylene may be a promising packaging material for vegetable oils.

Abstract
This study includes the design of a chitosan membrane decorated with unsaturated fatty acid–based carrier system for cancer treatment and antibacterial application. For this, polystyrene-graft-polyoleic acid-graft-polyethylene glycol was prepared by free radical polymerization and characterized. Nanoparticles and caffeic acid–loaded nanoparticles were prepared by solvent evaporation technique and optimized. The short-term stability of nanoparticles was investigated at 4°C. Drug encapsulation and loading efficiency were evaluated. The chitosan membrane and caffeic acid–loaded nanoparticles embedded into chitosan membrane were fabricated. The caffeic acid loaded nanoparticles embedded into chitosan membrane showed controlled release. The mechanical properties of all samples were investigated. The caffeic acid–loaded nanoparticles embedded into chitosan membranes indicated excellent antibacterial properties against the Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The anticancer activity of all the samples was evaluated against SaOS-2 human primary osteogenic sarcoma and MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblast cell lines by 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyl tetrazolium bromide assay, the flow cytometry and double staining methods. As a result, the designed carrier system showed great potential to cancer-associated infections treatment in bone cancer cases.
