Abstract
In vitro antimicrobial activity of nano-ZnO-loaded nanoliposomes at different levels of lecithin:nano-ZnO ratio (5:1, 15:1, and 25:1 w/w) against Aspergillus niger (IBRC-M 30095) and Botrytis cinerea (IBRC-M 30162) was evaluated. Nanoliposome formulations containing nano-ZnO were fabricated through thin-layer hydration sonication and heat methods. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) of nano-ZnO-loaded nanoliposomes and free nano-ZnO against Aspergillus niger and Botrytis cinerea were determined. The time-kill experiments were performed for each isolate. Results showed that the encapsulation of nano-ZnO in nanoliposome systems significantly enhanced their antimicrobial activities by improving the penetration of ZnO nanoparticles the fungi cell membrane. In vitro antifungal activity of nano-ZnO-loaded nanoliposomes against Aspergillus niger and Botrytis cinerea was increased in thin-layer hydration sonication method compared with the heat method. The log phase for Aspergillus niger and Botrytis cinerea was around 70 h. Adding nano-ZnO-loaded nanoliposomes to the culture medium shortened the log phase for both Aspergillus niger and Botrytis cinerea. The highest antimicrobial activity of nanoliposomes was achieved using nanoliposomes containing the lecithin:nano-ZnO ratio of 25:1 (w/w) as compared to all samples. However, the length of the log phase growth cultures exposed to the nanoliposome formulations prepared by thin-layer hydration sonication method with the lecithin:nano-ZnO ratio of 25:1 (w/w) at MIC and MFC values was 60 and 40 h for both Aspergillus niger and Botrytis cinerea, respectively.

Abstract
In the contemporary era, heightened emphasis on health and safety has emerged as a paramount concern among individuals with food. The concepts of "natural" and "green" have progressively asserted dominance in the food consumption market. Consequently, through continuous exploration and development, an escalating array of natural bioactive ingredients is finding application in both nutrition delivery and the broader food industry. Chlorogenic acid (CGA), a polyphenolic compound widely distributed in various plants in nature, has garnered significant attention. Abundant research underscores CGA's robust biological activity, showcasing notable preventive and therapeutic efficacy across diverse diseases. This article commences with a comprehensive overview, summarizing the dietary sources and primary biological activities of CGA. These encompass antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-cancer, and neuroprotective activities. Next, a comprehensive overview of the current research on nutrient delivery systems incorporating CGA is provided. This exploration encompasses nanoparticle, liposome, hydrogel, and emulsion delivery systems. Additionally, the article explores the latest applications of CGA in the food industry. Serving as a cutting-edge theoretical foundation, this paper contributes to the design and development of CGA in the realms of nutrition delivery and the food industry. Finally, the article presents informed speculations and considerations for the future development of CGA.

Abstract
Liposomes are spherical lipidic nanocarriers composed of natural or synthetic phospholipids with a hydrophobic bilayer and aqueous core, which are arranged into a polar head and a long hydrophobic tail, forming an amphipathic nano/micro-particle. Despite numerous liposomal applications, their use encounters many challenges related to the physicochemical properties strongly affected by their constituents, colloidal stability, and interactions with the biological environment. This review aims to provide a perspective and a clear idea about the main factors that regulate the liposomes' colloidal and bilayer stability, emphasising the roles of cholesterol and its possible alternatives. Moreover, this review will analyse strategies that offer possible approaches to provide more stable in vitro and in vivo liposomes with enhanced drug release and encapsulation efficiencies.

Abstract
Effective loading and delivering the wound healing-based materials to the wound site and area with an optimum concentration and limited cytotoxicity are essential for a complete and fast healing process. Here, we have designed Zn/Al-LDH nanoparticles-loaded CMC films for encapsulation and delivery of gallic acid (GA) in order to develop an effective and efficient wound-healing scaffold. The physicochemical properties of the prepared Zn/Al-LDH nanohybrids were thoroughly characterized by several characterization techniques, such as FESEM, Hi-TEM, FTIR, and XRD techniques. The thermal properties of the scaffolds were evaluated by DSC and TGA analysis. The release profiles of GA from fabricated films were studied over 8 h by UV-vis spectroscopy. In vitro drug release studies in PBS solutions with pH 7.4 showed a mono-phasic profile in which the liberation of the drug mainly occurred by scaffold erosion and increased by increasing the experiment period. The in vitro antibacterial activity of Zn/Al-LDH-GA-loaded CMC films was assessed by disk diffusion and cell viability contact tests. The results showed the desired antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. Incorporating GA within CMC and CMC-Zn/Al-LDH films rereleased good cytocompatibility at the studied incubation time and different concentrations toward human normal HFF cell line than the free drug. The results of the present study indicated that the Zn/Al-LDH and Zn/Al-LDH-GA-loaded CMC have promising wound healing features to further develop a better future for clinical remedy of the different non-healing and hard-to-heal wounds.

Abstract
Nano-carriers are well-known delivery systems to encapsulate different bioactive compounds and extracts. Such nano-systems are used in various food and drug areas to protect active ingredients, increase bioavailability, control the release, and deliver bioactive substances. This study aimed to design and fabricate a stable colloidal nano-delivery system to better preserve the antioxidant properties of pomegranate peel extract (PPE) and protect its sustained release in a gastrointestinal model. To achieve this goal, a nano-phytosomal system was fabricated with plant-based, cost-effective, and food-grade compounds, i.e., phosphatidylcholine (PC) and gamma-oryzanol (GO) for encapsulation of PPE. To fabricate the nano-phytosomes, thin film hydration/sonication method was used. The parameters of particle size, zeta potential, polydispersity index (PDI), loading capacity (LC), and encapsulation efficiency (EE) were investigated to evaluate the efficiency of the produced nano-system. In summary, the size, zeta potential, PDI, LC, and EE of homogenous spherical PC-GO-PPE nano-phytosomes (NPs) in the ratio of 8:2:2 % w/w were achieved as 60.61 ± 0.81 nm, -32.24 ± 0.84 mV, 0.19 ± 0.01, 19.13 ± 0.30 %, and 95.66 ± 1.52 %, respectively. Also, the structure of NPs was approved by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The optimized NPs were stable during one month of storage at 4 °C, and changes in the size of particles and PPE retention rate were insignificant (p > 0.05). The nano-encapsulation of PPE significantly decreased the loss of its antioxidant activity during one month of storage at 4 °C. The optimized NPs exhibited prolonged and sustained release of PPE in a gastrointestinal model, so that after 2 h in simulated gastric fluid (SGF) and 4 h in simulated intestinal fluid (SIF), 22.66 ± 2.51 % and 69.33 ± 4.50 % of initially loaded PPE was released, respectively. Optimized NPs had considerable cytotoxicity against the Michigan Cancer Foundation-7 cell line (MCF7) (IC50 = 103 μg/ml), but not against Human Foreskin Fibroblast cell line (HFF-2) (IC50 = 453 μg/ml). In conclusion, spherical PC-GO-PPE NPs were identified as a promising delivery system to efficiently encapsulate PPE, as well as protect and preserve its bioactivity, including antioxidant and cytotoxicity against cancer cell line.

Abstract
Pancreatic β-cells play a crucial role in maintaining glucose homeostasis, although they are susceptible to oxidative damage, which can ultimately impair their functionality. Thinned nectarines (TNs) have gained increasing interest due to their high polyphenol and abscisic acid (ABA) content, both of which possess antidiabetic properties. Nevertheless, the efficacy of these bioactive compounds may be compromised by limited stability and bioavailability in vivo. This study aimed to develop nanoformulations (NFs) containing pure ABA or a TN extract (TNE) at an equivalent ABA concentration. Subsequently, the insulinotropic and antioxidant potential of the NFs and their unformulated (free) forms were compared in MIN-6 pancreatic cells exposed to varying glucose (5.5 mM and 20 mM) and iron (100 µM) concentrations. NF-TNE treatment exhibited enhanced antioxidant activity compared to free TNE, while ABA-based groups showed no significant antioxidant activity. Moreover, MIN6 cells incubated with both high glucose and iron levels demonstrated significantly higher insulin AUC levels after treatment with all samples, with NF-TNE displaying the most pronounced effect. In conclusion, these results highlight the additional beneficial potential of TNE due to the synergistic combination of bioactive compounds and demonstrate the significant advantage of using a nanoformulation approach to further increase the benefits of this and similar phytobioactive molecules.

Abstract
Neurons and their connecting axons gradually degenerate in neurodegenerative diseases (NDs), leading to dysfunctionality of the neuronal cells and eventually their death. Drug delivery for the treatment of effected nervous system is notoriously complicated because of the presence of natural barriers, i.e., the blood-brain barrier and the blood cerebrospinal fluid barrier. Palliative care is currently the standard care for many diseases. Therefore, treatment programs that target the disease's origin rather than its symptoms are recommended. Nanotechnology-based drug delivery platforms offer an innovative way to circumvent these obstacles and deliver medications directly to the central nervous system, thereby enabling treatment of several common neurological problems, i.e., Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Interestingly, the combination of nanomedicine and gene therapy enables targeting of selective mutant genes responsible for the progression of NDs, which may provide a much-needed boost in the struggle against these diseases. Herein, we discussed various central nervous system delivery obstacles, followed by a detailed insight into the recently developed techniques to restore neurological function via the differentiation of neural stem cells. Moreover, a comprehensive background on the role of nanomedicine in controlling neurogenesis via differentiation of neural stem cells is explained. Additionally, numerous phytoconstituents with their neuroprotective properties and molecular targets in the identification and management of NDs are also deliberated. Furthermore, a detailed insight of the ongoing clinical trials and currently marketed products for the treatment of NDs is provided in this manuscript.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of nano-gels containing ginger essential oil (GEO) (NGs) made from gelatin and carrageenan gum on ethyl cellulose/casein nano-fibers (NFs). For this purpose, the mechanical, thermal, morphological, antibacterial, antioxidant, hemocompatibility, and biocompatibility properties of the NFs were assessed. It was observed that incorporating NGs into ethyl cellulose/casein NFs improved their morphology, porosity, mechanical properties, and thermal stability. Analysis of the SEM images revealed that adding NGs resulted in NFs with appropriate morphology, devoid of beads, and smaller diameters. The NFs containing NGs exhibited favorable antioxidant properties and inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Cell viability studies demonstrated that none of the NFs were toxic to normal cells (Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC)) and exhibited hemocompatibility. Considering these properties, ethyl cellulose/casein NFs containing NGs and GEO can be utilized as food packaging materials.

Abstract
Consumers today demand the use of natural additives and preservatives in all fresh and processed foods, including meat and meat products. Meat, however, is highly susceptible to oxidation and microbial growth that cause rapid spoilage. Essential oils are natural preservatives used in meat and meat products. While they provide antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, they also present certain disadvantages, as their intense flavor can affect the sensory properties of meat, they are subject to degradation under certain environmental conditions, and have low solubility in water. Different methods of incorporation have been tested to address these issues. Solutions suggested to date include nanotechnological processes in which essential oils are encapsulated into a lipid or biopolymer matrix that reduces the required dose and allows the formation of modified release systems. This review focuses on recent studies on applications of nano-encapsulated essential oils as sources of natural preservation systems that prevent meat spoilage. The studies are critically analyzed considering their effectiveness in the nanostructuring of essential oils and improvements in the quality of meat and meat products by focusing on the control of oxidation reactions and microbial growth to increase food safety and ensure innocuity.
