Abstract
In this study, amino-functionalized mesoporous silica/hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (MSNS/HAP) with the property of acid dissociation have been prepared as a traditional Chinese medicine monomer carriers to improve the drug loading rate and antibacterial properties of antimicrobial quercetin (QUE) in vitro. The experimental results confirm that the drug loading rate of MSNs/HAP is 28.94 %, which is about 3.6 times higher than that of aminated mesoporous sililca nanoparticles (MSNs). The drug release of QUE on MSNs/HAP is pH-sensitive in phosphate buffered saline (pH=4.0-7.4). The above fabricated traditional Chinese medicine monomer modified nanocomposites (QUE@MSNs/HAP) displays concentration-dependent inhibitory effect, which shows better antibacterial effect than free QUE. The minimum inhibitory concentration for two tested bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus) and Escherichia coli (E.coli), is 256 mg·L -1. In summary, QUE@MSNs/HAP have successfully prepared, which not only improves the bio-availability of QUE, but also has acid-sensitive drug release properties. Compared with free QUE, its antibacterial performance significantly enhances, which provides a theoretical basis for the application of Chinese medicine molecules in bacterial treatment.

Abstract
Bone tissue is composed of organic minerals and cells. It has the capacity to heal for certain minor damages, but when the bone defects surpass the critical threshold, they need fixing. Bone regeneration through natural and synthetic biodegradable materials requires various steps, such as manufacturing methods and materials selection. A successful biodegradable bone graft should have a high surface area/ volume ratio, strength, and a biocompatible, porous structure capable of promoting cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. Considering these requirements, the electrospinning technique is promising for creating functional nano-sized scaffolds. The multi-axial methods, such as coaxial and triaxial electrospinning, are the most popular techniques to produce double or tri-layered scaffolds, respectively. Recently, stem cell culture on scaffolds and the application of osteogenic differentiation protocols on these scaffolds have opened new possibilities in the field of biomaterials research. This review discusses an overview of the progress in coaxial and triaxial technology through biodegradable composite bone materials. The review also carefully elaborates the osteogenic differentiation using stem cells and their performance with nano-sized scaffolds.

Abstract
Innovation in biomedical science is always a field of interest for researchers. Drug delivery, being one of the key areas of biomedical science, has gained considerable significance. The utilization of simple yet effective techniques such as electrospinning has undergone significant development in the field of drug delivery. Various polymers such as PEG (polyethylene glycol), PLGA (Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)), PLA(Polylactic acid), and PCA (poly(methacrylate citric acid)) have been utilized to prepare electrospinning-based drug delivery systems (DDSs). Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) has recently gained attention because of its biocompatibility, biodegradability, non-toxicity, and ideal mechanical properties as these are the key factors in developing DDSs. Moreover, it has shown promising results in developing DDSs individually and when combined with natural and synthetic polymers such as chitosan and polycaprolactone (PCL). Considering the outstanding properties of PVA, the aim of this review paper was therefore to summarize these recent advances by highlighting the potential of electrospun PVA for drug delivery systems.

Abstract
Artificial skin, also known as bioinspired electronic skin (e-skin), refers to intelligent wearable electronics that imitate the tactile sensory function of human skin and identify the detected changes in external information through different electrical signals. Flexible e-skin can achieve a wide range of functions such as accurate detection and identification of pressure, strain, and temperature, which has greatly extended their application potential in the field of healthcare monitoring and human-machine interaction (HMI). During recent years, the exploration and development of the design, construction, and performance of artificial skin has received extensive attention from researchers. With the advantages of high permeability, great ratio surface of area, and easy functional modification, electrospun nanofibers are suitable for the construction of electronic skin and further demonstrate broad application prospects in the fields of medical monitoring and HMI. Therefore, the critical review is provided to comprehensively summarize the recent advances in substrate materials, optimized fabrication techniques, response mechanisms, and related applications of the flexible electrospun nanofiber-based bio-inspired artificial skin. Finally, some current challenges and future prospects are outlined and discussed, and we hope that this review will help researchers to better understand the whole field and take it to the next level.

Abstract
Tissue engineering is nowadays a powerful tool to restore damaged tissues and recover their normal functionality. Advantages over other current methods are well established, although a continuous evolution is still necessary to improve the final performance and the range of applications. Trends are nowadays focused on the development of multifunctional scaffolds with hierarchical structures and the capability to render a sustained delivery of bioactive molecules under an appropriate stimulus. Nanocomposites incorporating hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (HAp NPs) have a predominant role in bone tissue regeneration due to their high capacity to enhance osteoinduction, osteoconduction, and osteointegration, as well as their encapsulation efficiency and protection capability of bioactive agents. Selection of appropriated polymeric matrices is fundamental and consequently great efforts have been invested to increase the range of properties of available materials through copolymerization, blending, or combining structures constituted by different materials. Scaffolds can be obtained from different processes that differ in characteristics, such as texture or porosity. Probably, electrospinning has the greater relevance, since the obtained nanofiber membranes have a great similarity with the extracellular matrix and, in addition, they can easily incorporate functional and bioactive compounds. Coaxial and emulsion electrospinning processes appear ideal to generate complex systems able to incorporate highly different agents. The present review is mainly focused on the recent works performed with Hap-loaded scaffolds having at least one structural layer composed of core/shell nanofibers.

Abstract
Purpose To enhance the osteoinductive effect of Hydroxyapatite (HA) in bone tissue engineering, this study manufactured polycaprolactone (PCL)/gelatin (GEL)/HA nanofibrous scaffolds incorporated with different ratios of attapulgite (ATP): HA (0:3, 0:0, 1:1, 2:1 and 3:0) by high-voltage electrospinning. The synergistic effect exerted by ATP and HA on bone formation was explored both in vivo and in vitro. Methods and Results First, we determined the group composition and crystal structure of the nanosheets by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. Then, the physical properties of the scaffolds, including the modulus of elasticity, porosity and water absorption were evaluated. Moreover, the surface microstructure of the nanofibrous scaffolds was captured by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The biocompatibility of the fabricated scaffolds represented by cell counting kit 8 (CCK-8) and phalloidin staining was also assessed. Next, in vitro osteogenesis was evaluated. Real-time PCR, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining and Alizarin red S (ARS) staining results showed that the materials incorporated with HA and ATP at a ratio of 2:1 synergistically promoted more osteoblastic differentiation and extracellular mineralization than scaffolds doped with HA and ATP alone. Last, in vivo, Hematoxylin-Eosin staining (HE staining) and Masson staining showed that groups treated with HA and ATP acquired optimal patterns of bone regeneration. Conclusion This study clarified for the first time that the combination of HA and ATP orchestrated biomaterial-induced osseointegration, and the synergistic effect was more significant when the ratio of ATP/HA was 2:1. This conclusion also provides new ideas and a scientific basis for the development of functionalized nanomaterials in bone tissue engineering.
