Abstract
This study explores the antifungal properties of Agaricus blazei Murrill, a valuable medicinal and edible fungus. Six compounds (1-6) were first isolated from A. blazei using various isolation techniques and identified using spectroscopic methods. These compounds include linoleic acid, 1,1'-oxybis(2,4-di-tert-butylbenzene), glycerol monolinoleate, volemolide (17R)-17-methylincisterol, (24s)-ergosta-7-en-3-ol, and dibutyl phthalate. This study also assesses the antifungal activities of these compounds against Trichophyton mentagrophology, Trichophyton rubrum, Candida albicans, and Cryptococcus neoformans. The results demonstrate varied sensitivities against these pathogenic fungi, with compound 2 showing significant inhibition against T. mentagrophology, compound 3 showing significant inhibition against T. rubrum, and compound 6 showing significant inhibition against C. albicans. This study underscores the medicinal potential of A. blazei as an antifungal agent and sheds light on its valuable research implications.

Abstract
Selenium (Se) is important in many physiological processes, such as antioxidant processes and inflammation. The aim of our experiments was to investigate the molecular mechanism that selenomethionine could reduce the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation by inhibiting the TLR4-NF-κB-NLRP3 signaling pathway. Eighty broilers were randomly and evenly divided into two groups, giving normal Se content diets (Con group, 0.2 mg Se/kg diet) and Se-rich basal diets (Se group, 0.5 mg selenomethionine/kg diet) for 90 days. Se-rich basal diets were based on 0.2 mg/kg sodium selenite contained. Five hours before euthanized, 20 broilers were randomly selected from each group and given lipopolysaccharide (200 μg/kg BW) by intraperitoneal injection, Con+LPS group and Se+LPS group, respectively. The Con group and Se group were given equal saline by intraperitoneal injection. We observed the microscopic pathological changes of liver tissue detected oxidative stress by kit and detected the expression of inflammatory factors, heat shock protein (HSP), and nod-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3)-related genes by qRT-PCR and Western blot. With the microscope, we found the Con+LPS group had obvious inflammatory lesions such as sinusoidal congestion, but the damage was significantly alleviated in the Se+LPS group. In the Con+LPS group, the activity of GSH-Px and the content of GSH were significantly decreased compared with those in the Con group; however, they are increased in the Se group and in the Se + LPS group. Inflammatory factors (MyD88, NF-κB, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-12, IL-18, iNOS, and COX-2), heat shock proteins (HSP27, HSP60, HSP70, and HSP90), and the expression of NLRP3 and caspase-1 increased in the Con+LPS group compared with those in the Con group, while they were lower in the Se+LPS group than in the Con+LPS group. We concluded that selenomethionine inhibits the LPS-induced inflammation of liver tissue via suppressing the TLR4-NF-κB-NLRP3 signaling pathway.

Abstract
Agaricus blazei Murrill (ABM), is a medicinal mushroom, has beneficial effects on diabetes mellitus. In this study, ABM extracts (ethanol extract, EE and ethyl acetate extract, EA) were evaluated to explore the beneficial effect on hepatic antioxidant activity and recovery of the pancreatic tissue in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The hepatic antioxidant activities of ABM extracts were analyzed by superoxide dismutase, catalase activity, glutathione, aspartate transaminase, and alanine transaminase. Moreover, the effects of ABM extracts on pancreatic tissue restoration were investigated by histopathological analysis. The results revealed that the EA showed a better protective effect on hepatic antioxidant activity and recovery of the impaired pancreatic tissues, compared to EE. The results suggested that ABM treatment could effectively reduce oxidative stress and contribute to pancreatic tissue recovery. Therefore, ABM could be used as a functional food to control diabetes. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: The research may contribute to the development of ABM as functional foods or dietary supplements for diabetes in the future.

Abstract
The role of the vascular endothelium in inflammation was demonstrated experimentally through biomarkers of endothelial dysfunction and cytoprotection. Selenium is a trace element essential for cell protection against oxidative lesions triggered by reactive oxygen species or inflammatory responses. Preclinical studies have demonstrated a relationship between adhesion molecules as biomarkers of endothelial dysfunction and selenoproteins as biomarkers of selenium status under conditions that mimic different diseases. Most studies in humans indicate an association between selenium deficiency and increased risk of morbidity and mortality, yet the pathophysiology of selenium in endothelial activation remains unknown. Here, we summarize selenium-dependent endothelial function evaluation techniques and focus on the role of selenium in endothelial cytoprotection according to current scientific knowledge. Most studies on the role of selenium in endothelial processes show selenium-dependent endothelial functions and explain how cells and tissues adapt to inflammatory insults. Taken together, these studies show an increase in adhesion molecules and a decrease in the expression of selenoproteins following a decreased exposure to selenium. Few clinical trials have enough methodological quality to be included in meta-analysis on the benefits of selenium supplementation. Furthermore, the methodology adopted in many studies does not consider the relevant findings on the pathophysiology of endothelial dysfunction. Preclinical studies should be more frequently integrated into clinical studies to provide clearer views on the role of selenium status in endothelial cytoprotection.

Abstract
A total of 80 female albino mice were randomly allotted into five groups (n = 16) as follows: (A) normal control, (B) high-fat diet (HFD),; (C) HFD + probiotics (P), (D) HFD + sodium selenite (SS), and (E) HFD + selenium-enriched probiotics (SP). The selenium content of diets in groups A, B, C, D, and E was 0.05, 0.05, 0.05, 0.3, and 0.3 μg/g, respectively. The amount of probiotics contained in groups C and E was similar (Lactobacillus acidophilus 0.25 × 10(11)/mL and Saccharomyces cerevisiae 0.25 × 10(9)/mL colony-forming units (CFU)). The high-fat diet was composed of 15 % lard, 1 % cholesterol, 0.3 % cholic acid, and 83.7 % basal diet. At the end of the 4-week experiment, blood and liver samples were collected for the measurements of lipid metabolism, antioxidative status, histopathological lesions, and related gene expressions. The result shows that HFD significantly increased the body weights and liver damages compared to control, while P, SS, or SP supplementation attenuated the body weights and liver damages in mice. P, SS, or SP supplementation also significantly reversed the changes of alanine aminotransferase (AST), aspartate aminotransferase (ALT), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), total protein (TP), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalasa (CAT), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels induced by HFD. Generally, adding P, SS, or SP up-regulated mRNA expression of carnitine palmitoyltransferase-I (CPT1), carnitine palmitoyltransferase II (CPT2), acetyl-CoA acetyltransferase II (ACAT2), acyl-coenzyme A oxidase (ACOX2), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) and down-regulated mRNA expression of fatty acid synthase (FAS), lipoprotein lipase (LPL), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), and sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1 (SREBP1) involved in lipid metabolism. Among the group, adding SP has a maximum effect in improving lipid metabolism, antioxidative status, histopathological lesions, and related gene expression in mice fed a HFD.
