Abstract
Objective To compare the short- and long-term outcomes of radiofrequency ablation (RFA)
versus liver resection and chemotherapy for liver metastases from gastric
cancer. Methods We retrospectively evaluated 50 patients who underwent curative gastrectomy
and local treatments for liver metastases (RFA, n = 20; liver resection,
n = 20; and chemotherapy, n = 10) from 2008 to 2018. Results The short- and long-term outcomes of each local treatment were evaluated. The
median overall survival (OS) after RFA was similar to that after liver
resection (20 vs. 20 months, respectively) and longer than that after
chemotherapy (20 vs. 10 months, respectively). The 3-year OS and
progression-free survival (PFS) rates after RFA were 20% and 10%,
respectively, while those in the liver resection group were 23.5% and 23.5%,
respectively. The 3-year OS rate after chemotherapy was 10%. The size and
number of metastases were prognostic factors for patients with gastric
cancer with liver metastasis without statistical significance. Conclusions Among patients with liver metastasis from gastric cancer, OS and PFS were
satisfactory and comparable between RFA and liver resection but better than
those of chemotherapy. RFA is an appropriate option for patients with
gastric cancer who have a solitary liver metastasis measuring ≤3.0 cm.

Abstract
In this study, chemical properties of polysaccharides from rhizomes of Panax japonicus C. A. Mey (PSPJ) were investigated and the antitumor immunostimulatory activity of PSPJ was assessed in mice bearing H22 hepatoma cells. Chemical properties of PSPJ were determined by GC, FT-IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR analysis. Furthermore, we showed that PSPJ repressed H22 tumor growth in vivo with undetectable toxic effects on tumor-bearing mice. PSPJ upregulated host thymus/spleen indexes and ConA/LPS-induced splenocyte proliferation. Cytotoxic activities of natural killer and CD8+ T cells against H22 hepatoma cells were also elevated. Tumor transplantation led to substantial apoptosis of CD4+ T cells and dysregulation of the cytokine profile secreted by CD4+ T cells. These abnormalities were alleviated by PSPJ in a dose-dependent manner. In tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), PSPJ reduced the production of immunosuppressive factors such as TGF-β, IL-10 and PEG2. In addition, M2-like polarization of TAMs was also considerably declined in response to PSPJ. Our findings clearly demonstrated the antitumor immunostimulatory activity of PSPJ and supported considering PSPJ as an adjuvant reagent in clinical treatment of malignant diseases.

Abstract
The recommended management of liver metastases (LM) from gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) disease consists of perioperative administration of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and surgical resection. The aim of our study was to investigate the efficacy of this therapeutic approach. Studies reporting outcomes for patients underwent liver resection from metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) were overviewed. Eleven studies were included, which enrolled 240 patients with liver metastasis from GISTs. A median overall survival (OS) interval of 41.8 months was calculated while a median disease free interval of 17.9 [17-43] months following resection was also measured. Recurrences were recorded in 63 patients. Prognostic factors identified by the studies included surgical resection, R0 resection, age <55 years, clinical response to TKIs, pre- and postoperative administration of TKIs. The included studies highlight the importance of complete resection and the timing of resection, as well underline the importance of pre- and post-operative administration of TKIs.

Abstract
Compared to gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), hepatic GIST is very rare in clinic. Reports on clinicopathological feature and prognosis of this rare disease are limited in literature. The purpose of this study was, therefore, to summarize clinical and pathological features as well as prognosis of the primary hepatic GIST. One case of primary hepatic GIST from our center and 22 cases reported in MEDLINE or China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) were enrolled into this study. Clinicopathological features as well as survival data of hepatic GIST were analyzed and compared with 297 gastric GISTs and 59 small intestinal GISTs from our center. Majority of the 22 cases (95.7%) of hepatic GIST was larger than 5 cm in size, and 75.0% of the tumors were over 5/50 HPF in mitotic index. Most of the hepatic GISTs (85.7%) displayed spindle cell shape in morphology. All of the hepatic GIST (100%) enrolled in this study were classified as high-risk category by the National Institute of Health (NIH) risk classification. The 5-year median disease-free survival (DFS) time was 24.0 months and 5-year disease-specific survival (DSS) rate was 33.3%, respectively. Distribution of clinicopathological features was significantly different among hepatic, gastric, and small intestinal GIST. The DFS and DSS of hepatic GIST were significantly lower than those of the other two groups. Majority of the hepatic GIST is large in size and highly malignant. Prognosis of the primary hepatic GIST is worse than that of gastric GIST and small intestinal GIST.
