Abstract
As the most common non-Hodgkin lymphoma subtype, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) incidence patterns generally parallel that for NHL overall. Globally, DLBCL accounts for a third of all NHLs, ranging between 20% and 50% by country. Based on United States (U.S.) cancer registry data, age-standardized incidence rate for DLBCL was 7.2 per 100,000. DLBCL incidence rises with age and is generally higher in males than females; in the U.S., incidence is highest among non-Hispanic whites (9.2/100,000). Like NHL incidence, DLBCL incidence rose in the first half of the 20th century but has largely plateaued. However, there is some evidence that incidence rates are rising in areas of historically low rates, such as Asia; there are also estimates for rising DLBCL incidence in the near future due to the changing demographics in developed countries whose aging population is growing. Established risk factors for DLBCL include those that result in severe immune deficiency such as HIV/AIDS, inherited immunodeficiency syndromes, and organ transplant recipients. Factors that lead to chronic immune dysregulations are also established risk factors, and include a number of autoimmune conditions (eg, Sjögren syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis), viral infections (eg, HIV, KSHV/HHV8, HCV, EBV), and obesity. Family history of NHL/DLBCL, personal history of cancer, and multiple genetic susceptibility loci are also well-established risk factors for DLBCL. There is strong evidence for multiple environmental exposures in DLBCL etiology, including exposure to trichloroethylene, benzene, and pesticides and herbicides, with recent associations noted with glyphosate. There is also strong evidence for associations with other viruses, such as HBV. Recent estimates suggest that obesity accounts for nearly a quarter of DLBCLs that develop, but despite recent gains in the understanding of DLBCL etiology, the majority of disease remain unexplained. An understanding of the host and environmental contributions to disease etiology, and concerted efforts to expand our understanding to multiple race/ethnic groups, will be essential for constructing clinically relevant risk prediction models and develop effective strategies for disease prevention.

Abstract
Over the last decade, epidemiological studies have discovered a link between hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). The regression of HCV-associated NHL after HCV eradication is the most compelling proof supporting HCV infection's role in lymphoproliferative diseases. HBV infection was found to significantly enhance the incidence of NHL, according to the epidemiological data. The exact mechanism of HCV leading to NHL has not been fully clarified, and there are mainly the following possible mechanisms: (1) Indirect mechanisms: stimulation of B lymphocytes by extracellular HCV and cytokines; (2) Direct mechanisms: oncogenic effects mediated by intracellular HCV proteins; (3) hit-and-run mechanism: permanent genetic B lymphocytes damage by the transitional entry of HCV. The specific role of HBV in the occurrence of NHL is still unclear, and the research on its mechanism is less extensively explored than HCV, and there are mainly the following possible mechanisms: (1) Indirect mechanisms: stimulation of B lymphocytes by extracellular HBV; (2) Direct mechanisms: oncogenic effects mediated by intracellular HBV DNA. In fact, it is reasonable to consider direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) as first-line therapy for indolent HCV-associated B-NHL patients who do not require immediate chemotherapy. Chemotherapy for NHL is affected by HBV infection and replication. At the same time, chemotherapy can also activate HBV replication. Following recent guidelines, all patients with HBsAg positive/HBV DNA≥2,000 IU/mL should be treated for HBV. The data on epidemiology, interventional studies, and molecular mechanisms of HCV and HBV-associated B-NHL are systematically summarized in this review.

Abstract
Nearly a billion people worldwide are infected with the hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and about a third of them have chronic infection. HBV is an important cause of morbidity and mortality, including acute and chronic hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Screening and control of primary HBV infection through vaccination represent a major advance in global public health, but large sections of the world population, in both developed and underdeveloped countries, remain unscreened and unvaccinated. In addition to being a global cause of liver disease, an important role of HBV in lymphoma has also emerged. First, the high risk of HBV reactivation in previously infected patients receiving chemo-immunotherapy necessitates the systematic evaluation of HBV serological status in all non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) cases and preemptive antiviral therapy for those who may have chronic or occult HBV infection. Second, HBV has been shown to infect lymphocytes, namely B-cells, and has been associated with a higher risk of developing B-cell lymphoma, most clearly in countries where HBV is endemic. While the risk of HBV reactivation with chemoimmunotherapy in NHL is well known, the role and the impact of HBV as a global lymphoma risk factor and potential oncogenic driver in B-cells are very poorly understood. Here, we review the clinical and scientific evidence supporting an association between HBV and B-cell lymphoma, with a particular focus on diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and provide an overview of the estimated impact of HBV infection on the biology and clinical course of DLBCL. We also discuss ways to gain a better insight into the unmet need posed by HBV in lymphoma and whether assessing immune responses to HBV, measuring viral loads, and detecting the presence of HBV-encoded proteins in tumor tissue could be integrated into the molecular and clinical risk stratification of patients with DLBCL.

Abstract
HBV is one of the most widespread hepatitis viruses worldwide, and a correlation between chronic infection and liver cancer has been clearly reported. The carcinogenic capacity of HBV has been reported for other solid tumors, but the largest number of studies focus on its possible lymphomagenic role. To update the correlation between HBV infection and the occurrence of lymphatic or hematologic malignancies, the most recent evidence from epidemiological and in vitro studies has been reported. In the context of hematological malignancies, the strongest epidemiological correlations are with the emergence of lymphomas, in particular non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) (HR 2.10 [95% CI 1.34-3.31], p=0.001) and, more specifically, all NHL B subtypes (HR 2.14 [95% CI 1.61-2.07], p<0.001). Questionable and unconfirmed associations are reported between HBV and NHL T subtypes (HR 1.11 [95% CI 0.88-1.40], p=0.40) and leukemia. The presence of HBV DNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells has been reported by numerous studies, and its integration in the exonic regions of some genes is considered a possible source of carcinogenesis. Some in vitro studies have shown the ability of HBV to infect, albeit not productively, both lymphomonocytes and bone marrow stem cells, whose differentiation is halted by the virus. As demonstrated in animal models, HBV infection of blood cells and the persistence of HBV DNA in peripheral lymphomonocytes and bone marrow stem cells suggests that these cellular compartments may act as HBV reservoirs, allowing replication to resume later in the immunocompromised patients (such as liver transplant recipients) or in subjects discontinuing effective antiviral therapy. The pathogenetic mechanisms at the basis of HBV carcinogenic potential are not known, and more in-depth studies are needed, considering that a clear correlation between chronic HBV infection and hematological malignancies could benefit both antiviral drugs and vaccines.

Abstract
Background Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been associated with an increased risk of a few malignancies. However, the prognostic impact of HBV infection remains unclear in cervical cancer. Objective To explore the association between HBV infection and survival outcomes of patients with primary cervical cancer, using overall survival (OS) and disease‐free survival (DFS) as primary endpoints. Methods This analysis was performed retrospectively with newly diagnosed cervical cancer patients admitted to the Department of Gynecologic Oncology at the Sun Yat‐sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat‐sen University from June 2013 to October 2019, who were enrolled and followed up. The Kaplan–Meier method and Cox proportional hazard analysis were used to examine the performance of HBV infection in predicting OS and DFS. Results Patients were followed up for a median of 37.17 months (95% CI, 34.69–39.65). Among the 695 patients, 87 (12.5%) were serologically positive for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), and 276 (39.7%) had a prior history of HBV infection. There was no significant difference between HBsAg‐positive group and HBsAg‐negative patients concerning OS or DFS. Multivariate analysis showed prior HBV infection was an independent favorable prognosticator for OS (HR, 0.335; 95% CI, 0.153–0.0.734; p = 0.006) and DFS (HR, 0.398; 95% CI, 0.208–0.691; p = 0.002). Conclusion We provide the first clinical evidence that suggests prior HBV infection as an independent favorable prognostic factor for patients with primary cervical cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections are associated with increased risks of lymphomas in the non-HIV setting. Their impacts on HIV-associated lymphomas deserved further studies in the modern combined antiretroviral therapy (cART) era. DESIGN We evaluated the associations between HCV, HBV and HIV-related lymphomas in the Lymphovir-ANRS-CO16 cohort. METHODS Prevalence of HCV seropositivity and chronic HBV infections were compared with those observed in the French Hospital Database on HIV (FHDH-ANRS-CO4). RESULTS Between 2008 and 2015, 179 patients with HIV-related lymphomas from 32 French hospitals were enrolled, 69 had Hodgkin's lymphoma (39%), and 110 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) (61%). The prevalence of HCV infection was higher in patients with NHL than in the FHDH-ANRS-CO4 [26 versus 14%, odd ratio (OR): 2.15; 95% confidence interval (1.35-3.32)] whereas there was no association between Hodgkin's lymphoma and chronic HCV infection. Chronic HBV infection was not associated with NHL in our cohort with a prevalence of 5 versus 7% in FHDH-ANRS-CO4 but tended to be associated with Hodgkin's lymphoma [prevalence of 14%, OR: 2.16 (0.98-4.27)]. Chronic HCV infection tended to pejoratively impact 2-year overall survival in patients with NHL: 72% [57%, 91%] versus 82% [74%, 91%], hazard ratio: 2.14 [0.95-4.84]. In contrast, chronic HBV infection did not correlate with outcome. CONCLUSION In the modern cART era, chronic HCV infection is associated with an increased risk of NHL in PLWHIV and tends to pejoratively impact overall survival. HBV infection is not associated with the risk of NHL but with a borderline increase of Hodgkin's lymphoma risk.

Abstract
Accumulating evidence from clinical trials indicates chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is associated with the incidence of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and may be associated with the prognosis of DLBCL, though this suggestion remains controversial. We performed a meta-analysis to assess whether HBV infection is associated with prognosis and response to chemotherapy in DLBCL. After a strict literature search strategy, a total of 809 HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) seropositive patients with DLBCL and 2849 HBsAg seronegative patients with DLBCL from twelve trials were included. DLBCL patients with chronic HBV infection had significantly poorer 2- and 5-year overall survival (OS) (HR 1.54, 95% CI 1.23-1.92, P<0.001 and 1.79, 1.48-2.17, P<0.001) and 2- and 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) (HR 1.44, 95% CI 1.14-1.81, P=0.002 and HR 1.34, 95% CI 1.02-1.75, P=0.03). HBsAg-seronegative patients also had a lower complete response (CR) rate (OR 0.48, 95% CI 0.34-0.68, P<0.001), higher progressive disease (PD) rate (OR 2.08, 95% CI 1.34-3.24, P=0.001), and more advanced clinical features. This meta-analysis indicates HBV infection leads to a poorer prognosis and poorer response to standard chemotherapy.

Abstract
Emerging evidences indicate that hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is associated with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), but the mechanisms of HBV-induction lymphomagenesis remain unclear. In this report, retrospective analysis of the prevalence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) among NHL cases demonstrated significantly higher HBsAg carrier rate among B-cell NHL cases than controls (other cancers except primary liver cancer) (adjusted odds ratio, 1.56; 95% confidence interval, 1.13–2.16). Furthermore, cells with an immortalization potential existed in the peripheral blood of 4 patients with chronic HBV infection. Characterization of these cells showed their immunophenotypes similar to that of the majority of HBsAg-positive B-cell NHL patients. Immunoglobulin (Ig) gene rearrangements confirmed the clonal Ig gene rearrangements. Cytogenetic analysis revealed abnormal karyotypes of these cells with an immortalization potential. Compared with cells with an immortalization potential that we previously found in B-cell NHL patients by the same way, these cells showed many similar features. In conclusion, cells with an immortalization potential existed in the part of patients with chronic HBV infection before lymphoma development and showed some malignant features. They may be the cellular basis of HBV-associated lymphomagenesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic hepatitis B has been linked to lymphoma with contradictory results. AIM To investigate the association between chronic hepatitis B and lymphoma by using a nationwide population-based cohort. METHODS Records of patients diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B (hepatitis B virus [HBV] cohort) or without (non-HBV cohort) during 2004-2007 were retrieved from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. Age, sex, comorbidities, and medical visits were matched using propensity scores between both cohorts, and they were followed up longitudinally until 2012 to determine any new lymphoma development. RESULTS A total of 203 031 patients were included in each cohort with a mean follow-up of 7-9 years. The lymphoma incidence rate was significantly higher in the HBV cohort than in the non-HBV cohort (29.4 vs 15.9 per 100 000 person-years, P < 0.0001). After adjustment for comorbidities and medical visits, HBV infection was found to be an independent risk factor associated with the development of lymphoma (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.07, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.76-2.43, P < 0.0001) and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (HR: 2.18, 95% CI: 1.80-2.65, P < 0.0001); specifically with an increased risk of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (HR: 2.69, 95% CI: 2.05-3.52, P < 0.0001), other B-cell lymphoma (HR: 3.11, 95% CI: 1.89-5.11, P < 0.0001), and also for multiple myeloma (HR: 1.63, 95% CI: 1.10-2.42, P = 0.016). The association was significant even after excluding lymphoma development within the first year (HR: 2.08, 95% CI: 1.75-2.47, P < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS Chronic hepatitis B is temporally associated with a 2-fold increased risk of lymphoma, particularly with B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and also an increased risk for multiple myeloma.

Abstract
目的 探讨非霍奇金淋巴瘤(NHL)合并HBV感染患者的临床特征及预后相关因素,为临床精准诊治和预后评估提供依据。 方法 收集2012年8月至2016年7月313例初诊NHL患者资料,采用ELISA法检测患者HBV血清学标志物,采用全自动微粒子化学发光免疫分析法定量检测HBV DNA(≥1×105拷贝/ml为高拷贝组,1×103~<1×105拷贝/ml为低拷贝组),结合患者的临床特征,分析其HBV感染与预后的关系,并与普通人群HBV检出率(来源于全国HBV血清流行病学资料)进行对比。 结果 ①NHL患者组HBsAg阳性率为12.5%(39/313),高于普通人群的7.2%(χ2=14.596,P<0.001);HBV既往感染者(HBsAg阴性但HBcAb阳性)114例(36.4%),发生率较普通人群(34.1%)略高。②HBsAg阳性组和阴性组比较,B细胞型(87.2%对70.3%,P=0.027)、Ann Arbor分期Ⅲ~Ⅳ期(69.2%对34.6%,P<0.001)、IPI评分3~5分(74.4%对50.0%,P=0.004)、LDH水平升高(79.5%对47.8%,P<0.001)、肝脏受累(45.5%对31.7%,P=0.006)患者的比例均较高,差异均有统计学意义。③HBV既往感染组(114例)与非感染组(160例)比较,Ann Arbor分期Ⅲ~Ⅳ期(P=0.023)、IPI评分3~5分(P=0.035)患者的比例组间差异均有统计学意义。④HBV DNA阳性组(30例)与阴性组(71例)比较,Ann Arbor分期Ⅲ~Ⅳ期(P=0.011)、IPI评分3~5分(P=0.03)、LDH水平升高(P=0.025)及肝脏受累(P<0.001)患者的比例组间差异均有统计学意义;以1×105拷贝/ml为界将30例阳性组患者划分为HBV DNA高拷贝组(23例)和低拷贝组(7例),结果显示两组患者的上述临床特征差异无统计学意义(P值均>0.05)。 结论 NHL患者的HBV感染率明显高于普通人群,HBV感染和B细胞型NHL关系更密切;合并HBV感染、HBV DNA阳性患者Ann Arbor分期晚、IPI评分高、LDH水平高、易发生肝脏受累,其预后偏差。

Abstract
Previous studies have focused on the relationship between hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). However, the results remain inconsistent and somehow conflicting in different subgroups. The aim of this study was to combine the findings of independent studies to comprehensively assess the association between HBV and NHL using a meta-analysis. Relevant studies were identified through structured keyword searches in PubMed, EMBASE and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database, and 58 studies with a total of 53 714 NHL cases and 1 778 591 controls were finally included. Pooled estimates indicated a significantly increased NHL risk in HBV-infected individuals (summary odds ratio [sOR]: 2.50; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.20-2.83) regardless of the study design (case-control studies: sOR: 2.47; 95% CI: 2.16-2.82; cohort studies: sOR: 2.64; 95% CI: 1.78-3.91). Considerable heterogeneity was observed across studies that was primarily attributed to the NHL subtypes (meta-regression: P < .05). Overall, B-cell NHL (sOR: 2.46; 95% CI: 1.97-3.07) presented a stronger association with HBV infection than T-cell NHL (sOR: 1.67; 95% CI: 1.34-2.10). Within the B-cell NHL subtypes, HBV infection was significantly associated with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL, sOR: 2.06; 95% CI: 1.48-2.88) and follicular lymphoma (FL, sOR: 1.54; 95% CI: 1.11-2.12), but not with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL/SLL) and Burkitt lymphoma. The results of this meta-analysis support a positive link between HBV infection and NHL development. Further investigations for the mechanisms underlying HBV-induced NHL are warranted.

Abstract
PURPOSE Whether the progression of advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) patients could be affected by HBV exposure remains to be determined. Therefore, we conducted this study to assess the effect of HBV infection on PDAC progression among a large cohort in China. METHODS A multicenter cohort study was conducted to explore whether liver metastasis and overall survival in locally advanced and metastatic PDAC could be affected by HBV infection. In this study, we collected 1,526 advanced PDAC patients at three participating hospitals - Shanghai Cancer Center, Changhai Hospital and Ruijin Hospital from 2004 to 2013. The association between HBV status and advanced PDAC progression was then examined. RESULTS In multivariable Logistic regression model, chronic hepatitis B(CHB) infection was inversely associated with synchronous liver metastasis compared to non HBV infection (OR 0.41, 95% CI 0.19-0.85) for stage IV patients. In a multivariable Cox model, CHB infection (HR=0.11, 95% CI 0.02-0.82) is considered as a protective factor of metachronous liver metastasis compared to Non HBV infection for stage III patients. For stage IV patients, CHB infection was inversely associated with overall survival compared to non HBV infection (HR 0.70, 95% CI 0.51-0.95). Inactive carrier(IC) and resolved HBV infection showed no significant association with survival compared to non HBV infection. CONCLUSION This study indicated that CHB infection may serve as an independent factor which decrease synchronous or metachronous liver metastasis, and increase overall survival among advanced PDAC patients.

Abstract
Patients with chronic HBV infection have been reported to suffer a significantly increased risk of NHL, but the underlying mechanisms remain to be clearly explained. The aim of the present study was to clarify the relationship between chronic HBV infection and NHL development. Fluorescence-activated cell sorting, Annexin V/7-aminoactinomycin D staining and MTS assay were used to analyze the rate of apoptosis and cell viability. In addition, western blotting was used to detect protein expression. The effects of the activator of SIRT1, SRT1720, and the inhibitor of SIRT1, nicotinamide, were also analyzed. The expression levels cytokines and chemokines were determined by multiplex assay. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) was demonstrated to increase the viability of the human peripheral B lymphoblastoid cell line, IM-9, in a dose- and time-dependent manner. HBsAg also decreased histone H3 acetylation and p21 expression at the molecular level. HBsAg upregulated the expression of anti-apoptotic B-cell lymphoma-extra-large and B-cell lymphoma 2 proteins, and inactivated the intrinsic apoptosis pathway by reducing BCL2 associated X, apoptosis regulator expression and increasing the expression of sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB). HBsAg also altered the levels of certain chemokines and cytokines, including interleukin (IL)-4, -10 and -12, C-X-C motif chemokine 10 and C-C motif chemokine ligand 5. Inhibition of SIRT1 suppressed the effects induced by HBsAg. The anti-apoptotic effect of HBsAg in IM-9 cell lines occurred via the promotion of cell viability, inhibition of apoptosis, regulation of chemokines and cytokines, acetylation of histone H3 and alteration of SIRT1 and NF-κB expression. In conclusion, chronic stimulation with HBsAg promoted the viability of the human B lymphoblastoid cell line, IM-9, through regulation of the SIRT1-NF-κB pathway. This may be an underlying mechanism of HBV-associated NHL.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to determine and evaluate the association of different viral infections, with hepatitis B and C viruses, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus and human herpes virus-8 (HBV, HCV, EBV, CMV, HHV-8) with the risk of lymphomas (Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin) among Egyptian patients, and correlate with the histopathological staging and typing as well as the prevalence of combined infections. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 100 newly diagnosed lymphoma patients with 100 healthy age and sex matched normal controls were assayed for viral infection using enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) followed by real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). RESULTS Our results showed a high statistical significant difference between cases and controls as regards clinical and laboratory findings (<0.001 and=0.003). A high statistical difference was seen for the association of most viruses and lymphoma cases (<0.001) except for positive HBs Ag, positive CMV IgG and HHV-8 (p=0.37, 0.70 and 1.0 respectively). No statistical significant difference was found between Hodgkin (HL) and non-Hodgkin (NHL) as regards viral prevalence except HCV antigen, 57.1% for HL and 26.5% for NHL (p = 0.03). Only, HBV DNA showed a high significant value among infiltrated bone marrow cases (p=0.003) and finally, a high significant association of 2 combined viral infections with infiltrated bone marrow lymphoma cases (p=0.04). CONCLUSIONS Our results showed that infection with HBV, HCV, CMV and EBV were associated with increased risk of lymphoma among the Egyptian population. Detection of new associations between infectious agents and risk of cancer development will facilitate progress in elaboration of prophylactic measures, early diagnostic methods and, hopefully, novel therapy of malignant tumours.

Abstract
Although several human clinical trials using various bone marrow-derived cell types for cirrhotic or decompensated patients have reported a short-term benefit, long-term follow-up data are limited. We analyzed the long-term clinical outcomes of autologous bone marrow cell infusion (ABMI) for decompensated liver cirrhosis (LC). Patients enrolled in a pilot single-armed ABMI study were followed up more than 5 years. Bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells (BM-MNCs) from decompensated LC were harvested and after processing were infused into a peripheral vein. The laboratory test results and long-term clinical course including liver transplantation (LT), development of cancer, cause of death, and survival after ABMI were analyzed. Nineteen patients were followed up for a median of 66 months after ABMI. Liver function, including serum levels of albumin and Child-Pugh (CP) score, was improved at the 1-year follow-up. Liver volume was significantly greater, cirrhosis was sustained, and collagen content was decreased at the 6-month follow-up. Five years after ABMI, five patients (26.3%) maintained CP class A without LT or death, and five patients (26.3%) had undergone elective LT. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) occurred in five patients (26.3%), and lymphoma and colon cancer occurred in one patient each. Three patients (15.8%) were lost to follow-up at months 22, 31, and 33, respectively, but maintained CP class A until their last follow-up. Five patients expired due to infection. While improved liver function was maintained in some patients for more than 5 years after ABMI, other patients developed HCC. Further studies of long-term follow-up cohorts after cell therapy for LC are warranted.

Abstract
Chronic hepatitis B infection (CHB) is a known risk factor for malignancy. Unlike hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), less is known about the risk of non-HCC malignancy. However, epidemiology and pathologic evidence suggests a strong association between non-Hodgkin lymphoma and CHB. Data regarding the risk of other malignancies, such as pancreatic adenocarcinoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, are mixed. Surveillance and appropriate treatment of infection and malignancy in these patients is essential. Further study of these associations is needed and may bring new insights in the pathogenesis and treatment of these diseases.

Abstract
Occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a clinical challenge, but its relationship to clinicopathologic features and the risk of progression to malignant lymphoma (ML) are poorly defined. We estimated the prevalence of HBV infection of 1,358 patients with newly diagnosed ML. HBV infection was more prevalent in ML than in control patients. The occult HBV infection group had a higher median onset age, no liver or spleen involvement, and higher prevalence of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma than the other groups, indicating that occult HBV infection is a distinct clinicopathologic entity.
