Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pomegranate seed is rich in oil, and seed oil of pomegranate consists of conjugated fatty acids with different percentages. OBJECTIVES The current contribution covers how to determine percentages of different isomeric conjugated fatty acids. METHODS The percentages of these isomers are analysed by quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance (qNMR) using benzoic acid as an internal reference chemical with a well-defined amount. Linear mathematical equations are developed for the quantitative analysis of fatty acids found in pomegranate seed oil. RESULTS The developed approach is utilised for the pomegranate seed oils prepared in the laboratory and tested for commercial samples. Among the oils derived at the laboratory, the Yeni Hicaz pomegranate cultivar seeds yielded the highest fraction of punicic acid. Among the acids, punicic acid was the one with the highest fraction, while linolenic acid was the one with the lowest percentage. CONCLUSIONS These results are important in identifying pomegranate seed oils. Among the commercial samples tested with the current approach, only one of them showed similar content analysis as in the laboratory-derived oils.

Abstract
Background The photosynthetic microorganism Chlamydomonas reinhardtii has been approved as generally recognized as safe (GRAS) recently, this can excessively produce carotenoid pigments and fatty acids. Zeaxanthin epoxidase (ZEP), which converts zeaxanthin to violaxanthin, and ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase (AGP). These are key regulating genes for the xanthophyll and starch pathways in C. reinhardtii respectively. In this study, to produce macular pigment-enriched microalgal oil, we attempted to edit the AGP gene as an additional knock-out target in the zep mutant as a parental strain. Results Using a sequential CRISPR-Cas9 RNP-mediated knock-out method, we generated double knock-out mutants (dZAs), in which both the ZEP and AGP genes were deleted. In dZA1, lutein (2.93 ± 0.22 mg g−1 DCW: dried cell weight), zeaxanthin (3.12 ± 0.30 mg g−1 DCW), and lipids (450.09 ± 25.48 mg g−1 DCW) were highly accumulated in N-deprivation condition. Optimization of the culture medium and process made it possible to produce pigments and oil via one-step cultivation. This optimization process enabled dZAs to achieve 81% higher oil productivity along with similar macular pigment productivity, than the conventional two-step process. The hexane/isopropanol extraction method was developed for the use of macular pigment-enriched microalgal oil for food. As a result, 196 ± 20.1 mg g−1 DCW of edible microalgal oil containing 8.42 ± 0.92 mg g−1 lutein of oil and 7.69 ± 1.03 mg g−1 zeaxanthin of oil was produced. Conclusion Our research showed that lipids and pigments are simultaneously induced in the dZA strain. Since dZAs are generated by introducing pre-assembled sgRNA and Cas9-protein into cells, antibiotic resistance genes or selective markers are not inserted into the genome of dZA, which is advantageous for applying dZA mutant to food. Therefore, the enriched macular pigment oil extracted from improved strains (dZAs) can be further applied to various food products and nutraceuticals. Abstract
In organic and inorganic synthesis and in analytical methods, an external conventional heat source is usually applied to carry out a chemical reaction at a high temperature, or an extraction procedure. In the last decades, the use of ultrasound as an alternative energy source has become an interesting field of research in these topics in the South Cone region (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Southern Brazil and Paraguay). For this reason, the present review, covering the period 2009 to mid-2021, is a compilation of ultrasound-assisted synthetic and analytical methodologies.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Pomegranate, Punica granatum L., has been used in traditional medicine in China and several regions of the world including Ayurveda, Islamic, and Persian for the treatment of atherosclerosis, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and several types of cancer, as well as for peptic ulcer and oral diseases for hundreds of years. Presently, pomegranate is treated as both a "medicine food homology" herbal medicine and a healthy food supplemental product. AIM OF THE STUDY The aim of this work is to develop an overview of pomegranate in the context of the status of its traditional medicine theories, the spread along the Silk Road, ethnopharmacological uses, chemical compositions, pharmacological activities, toxicology, and the involved pathways. MATERIALS AND METHODS Information on P. granatum L. was acquired from published materials, including monographs on medicinal plants, ancient and modern recorded classical texts; and pharmacopoeias and electronic databases (PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science, Google Scholar, CNKI, and Wanfang Data). RESULTS Pomegranate has been used in many traditional medical systems throughout history. It is widely cultivated in Central Asia and spread throughout China along the Silk Road. Many phytochemicals, such as tannins, organic acids, flavonoids, alkaloids, and volatile oils have been identified from different parts of pomegranate, these compounds have a wide range of activities, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-oncogenic properties, as well as conferring resistance to cerebrovascular disease. Furthermore, A summary of the four promising pharmacological pathways is provided. CONCLUSIONS The traditional uses, chemical compositions, pharmacological activities, and signaling pathways of pomegranate are summarized comprehensively in the review. It can be treated as a guidance for the future clinical and basic research. The information provided in this review will be very useful for further studies to develop novel therapeutic directions for application of pomegranate.

Abstract
Conjugated fatty acids (CFAs) have received a deal of attention due to the increasing understanding of their beneficial physiological effects, especially the anti-cancer effects and metabolism-regulation activities. However, the production of CFAs is generally difficult. Several challenges are the low CFAs content in natural sources, the difficulty to chemically synthesize target CFA isomers in high purity, and the sensitive characteristics of CFAs. In this article, the current technologies to produce CFAs, including physical, chemical, and biotechnical approaches were summarized, with a focus on the conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs) and conjugated linolenic acids (CLNAs) which are the most common investigated CFAs. CFAs usually demonstrate stronger physiological effects than other non-conjugated fatty acids; however, they are more sensitive to heat and oxidation. Consequently, the quality control throughout the entire production process of CFAs is significant. Special attention was given to the micro- or nano-encapsulation which presented as an emerging technique to improve the bioavailability and storage stability of CFAs. The current applications of CFAs and the potential research directions were also discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Grape seeds are a relatively abundant source of oil and bioactive compounds. To use this byproduct, the current work aimed to optimize the ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of grape-seed oil to obtain greater process yield and minimize free radical formation in the oil. RESULTS The optimal condition was 15 °C with an ultrasonic wave amplitude of 42 µm, leading to a process yield of 82.9% and content of free radicals of 14.7 × 1017 kg-1 and 3.4 × 1018 kg-1 for samples stored for 7 and 30 days, respectively. No significant differences in fatty acid composition and acidity and iodine values were observed between samples. The oil obtained by ultrasound had greater phenolic compound content and antioxidant activity by ferric reduction than the control sample (without ultrasound application). However, higher content of free radicals and peroxide value was observed. CONCLUSION Sonication improved extraction yield when compared to the process without ultrasound application. Moreover, UAE favored the extraction of phenolic compounds. As it enhanced process yield with the minimum formation of free radicals, UAE is a promising oil-extraction technology. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry.
