Abstract
The development of efficient point-of-care (POC) diagnostic tools for detecting infectious diseases caused by destructive pathogens plays an important role in clinical and environmental monitoring. Nevertheless, evolving complex and inconsistent antibiotic-resistant species mire their drug efficacy. In this regard, substantial effort has been expended to develop electrochemical sensors, which have gained significant interest for advancing POC testing with rapid and accurate detection of resistant bacteria at a low cost compared to conventional phenotype methods. This review concentrates on the recent developments in electrochemical sensing techniques that have been applied to assess the diverse latent antibiotic resistances of pathogenic bacteria. It deliberates the prominence of biorecognition probes and tailor-made nanomaterials used in electrochemical antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST). In addition, the bimodal functional efficacy of nanomaterials that can serve as potential transducer electrodes and the antimicrobial agent was investigated to meet the current requirements in designing sensor module development. In the final section, we discuss the challenges with contemporary AST sensor techniques and extend the key ideas to meet the demands of the next POC electrochemical sensors and antibiotic design modules in the healthcare sector.

Abstract
The milk and dairy industries are some of the most profitable sectors in many countries. This business requires close control of product quality and continuous testing to ensure the safety of the consumers. The potential risk of contaminants or degradation products and undesirable chemicals necessitates the use of fast, reliable detection tools to make immediate production decisions. This review covers studies on the application of electrochemical methods to milk (i.e., voltammetric and amperometric) to quantify different analytes, as reported over the last 10 to 15 years. The review covers a wide range of analytes, including allergens, antioxidants, organic compounds, nitrogen- and aldehyde containing compounds, biochemicals, heavy metals, hydrogen peroxide, nitrite, and endocrine disruptors. The review also examines pretreatment procedures applied to milk samples and the use of novel sensor materials. Final perspectives are provided on the future of cost-effective and easy-to-use electrochemical sensors and their advantages over conventional methods.

Abstract
Antibiotics have been overused in recent years because of their remarkable curative effect, but this has led to considerable environmental pollution. Therefore, the development of approaches aimed at the effective detection and control of the antibiotics is vital for protecting the environment and human health. Many conventional strategies (such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS)) are currently in use for the detection of antibiotics. These strategies have aroused a great deal of interest because of their outstanding features of high efficiency and speed, good reproducibility, automation, etc. However, various problems such as tedious sample pretreatment, low detection sensitivity, and high cost must be overcome for the effective detection of antibiotics in environmental samples. Consequently, it is of great significance to improve the detection sensitivity of antibiotics. The development of new materials combined with the existing detection technology has great potential to improve the detection results for antibiotics. Carbon dots (CDs) are a new class of nanomaterials with particle sizes in the range of 0-10 nm. In addition, CDs have desirable properties such as small particle effect, excellent electrical properties, unique optical properties, and good biocompatibility. Hence, they have been widely utilized for the detection of antibiotics in environmental samples. In this review, the application of CDs combined with sensors and chromatographic technology for the detection of antibiotics in the last five years are summarized. The development prospects of CD-based materials and their application to the analysis and detection of antibiotics are presented. In this review, many new sensors (CDs combined with molecularly imprinted polymer sensors, aptamer sensors, electrochemiluminescence sensors, fluorescence sensors, and electrochemical sensors) combined with CD-based materials and their use in the detection of antibiotics are summarized. Furthermore, advanced analysis methods such as ratiometric sensor and array sensor methods are reviewed. The novel analysis methods provide a new direction toward the detection of antibiotics by CDs combined with a sensor. Moreover, CD-based chromatographic stationary phases for the separation of antibiotics are also summarized in this manuscript. It is reported that the detection sensitivity for antibiotics can be greatly improved by the combination of CDs and a sensor. Nevertheless, a literature survey reveals that the detection of antibiotics in complex environmental samples is confronted with numerous challenges, including the fabrication of highly sensitive sensors in combination with CDs. Furthermore, the development of novel high-performance materials is of imperative. In addition, it is important to develop new methods for effective data processing. The separation of antibiotics with CDs as the chromatographic stationary phases is in the preliminary stage, and the separation mechanism remains to be clarified. In conclusion, there are still many problems to be overcome when using CDs as novel materials for the detection of antibiotics in environmental samples. Nowadays, CD-based materials are being intensively studied, and various analytical detection technologies are being rapidly developed. In the future, CD-based materials are expected to play an important role in the detection of antibiotics and other environmental pollutants.

Abstract
The full characterization of nanomaterials (NMs), which requires a range of different and expensive equipment, is not always necessary to meet certain demands of information. Qualitative analytical methods are ideal alternatives when only a piece of information is required. In this work, a qualitative method for the screening of NMs has been developed and statistically validated for the first time, with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) as a proof of concept. It is based on the generation of chemiluminescence of the luminol/Ag+ system in alkaline media in the presence of AgNPs. Measurements are obtained in a short time with a simple instrument. Probability of detection (POD) curves were constructed at three cut-off values next to the limit of detection of the chemiluminescent method. The unreliability region (UR) was from 0.50 to 1.82 μg L-1. Currently, no regulation on AgNPs exists, but the present method was successfully tested for a hypothetical threshold of 2.5 μg L-1 of 40 nm AgNPs. The method was applied to silver colored pearls, with silver (E-174) or aluminum (E-173) coating, used for decoration of pastry. Performance parameters such as false negative and positive rates as well as specificity, sensitivity and reliability rates were calculated for validation. The results of the screening method were confirmed by asymmetric flow field flow fractionation coupled to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (AF4-ICP-MS). The proposed screening method is simple, fast, economic, and easy to transfer to routine laboratories in the field of food safety.
