Removal of Toluene by Adsorption/Desorption Using Ultra-stable Y Zeolite

A novel magnetite C18/paracetamol/alginate adsorbent bead for simultaneous extraction of synthetic antioxidants and bisphenol A in water samples

A novel magnetic composite bead was synthesized using carbon 18, paracetamol and alginate (mC18/Pa/Alg). The bead was applied to simultaneously adsorb butylated hydroxytoluene, butylated hydroxyanisole, and bisphenol A from water samples by magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE). The adsorbed analytes were determined by gas chromatography-flame ionization detection. The morphology and composition of the bead were examined by field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry, X-ray diffraction analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface analysis. The best condition of MSPE included an adsorbent bead made with 0.8% sodium alginate, a 0.3 g adsorbent dose, a sample solution pH of 7, and a desorption time of 20 min in methanol. The proposed method exhibited linearity at concentrations between 0.015 and 1.00 μg mL-1 of analytes. Limits of detection ranged from 6.86 to 9.66 ng mL-1. Recoveries from 80.3 to 100.1% were achieved with interday and intraday precisions (RSDs) of 0.4-4.3%.

Study on the adsorption effect of diatomite on neosolaniol (NEO) in muskmelon fruits inoculated with Fusarium sulphureum

Fusarium rot of muskmelon fruit is a common postharvest disease, which not only causes quantity deterioration but also leads to trichothecene accumulation in decay fruits. Neosolaniol (NEO) is one of main trichothecene, which poses a severe threat to human health. In this study, UPLC-MS/MS method was developed to determine NEO in muskmelon inoculated with Fusarium sulphureum. Diatomite was used to remove NEO in muskmelon and the adsorption kinetics, adsorption thermodynamics were analyzed in this adsorption process, and the changes of muskmelon juice quality before and after adsorption were investigated. The results showed that diatomite was a good adsorbent to remove NEO from muskmelon juice. The reaction process fits the Langmuir model and it was spontaneous exothermic reaction and not easy to be desorbed; the kinetic results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity was 12.35 μg/g, and this process fits the Pseudo-second-order model; diatomite had no significant effect on juice quality.

Silica Gel Impregnated by Deep Eutectic Solvents for Adsorptive Removal of BTEX from Gas Streams

The paper presents the preparation of new adsorbents based on silica gel (SiO₂) impregnated with deep eutectic solvents (DESs) to increase benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and p-xylene (BTEX) adsorption efficiency from gas streams. The DESs were synthesized by means of choline chloride, tetrapropylammonium bromide, levulinic acid, lactic acid, and phenol. The physico-chemical properties of new sorbent materials, including surface morphology and structures, as well as porosity, were studied by means of thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis. The effect of DESs type, flow rate, and initial concentration of BTEX were also investigated followed by regeneration and reusability of adsorbents. The results indicate that SiO₂ impregnated with tetrapropylammonium bromide and lactic acid in a 1:2 molar ratio have great potential for the removal of BTEX from gas streams. Its adsorption capacity was higher than the pure SiO₂ and other developed SiO₂-DES adsorbents. This result can be explained by the specific interaction between DESs and BTEX, i.e., hydrogen bonds interaction.
