Larkinella roseus sp. nov., a species of the family Cytophagaceae isolated from beach soil

Larkinella humicola sp. nov., a gamma radiation-resistant bacterium isolated from soil

A Gram-negative, short rod-shaped, and pink-pigmented bacterial strain, designated MA1^T, was isolated from a soil sample from Gijang-gun, Busan in Republic of Korea. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain MA1^T belonged to the genus Larkinella and was closely related to "Larkinella punicea" (97.5% similarity), Larkinella rosea 15J16-1T3A^T (96.5%), and Larkinella knui 15J6-3T6^T (96.2%). Polar lipid profile of strain MA1^T contained phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids, and three unidentified lipids. Menaquinone-7 was the only quinone and the main fatty acids were C_16:1 ω5c (36.7%), iso-C_15:0 (30.0%), iso-C_17:0 3-OH (7.7%), and summed feature 3 (C_16:1 ω6c and/or C_16:1 ω7c and/or iso-C_15:0 2-OH) (7.3%). The genomic DNA G + C content was 52.3 mol% based on the whole-genome analysis. Strain MA1^T exhibited a relatively low level of ANI and in silico DDH values with "Larkinella punicea" (91.9 and 47.1%, respectively), Larkinella rosea (79.7 and 23.3%), and Larkinella knui (81.9 and 25.7%). Based on its phenotypic properties and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain MA1^T should be classified in the genus Larkinella as a representative of a novel species, for which the name Larkinella humicola sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MA1^T (= KCTC 72629^T = NBRC 114191^T).

Larkinella punicea sp. nov., isolated from manganese mine soil

Strain ZZJ9^T is a Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, aerobic bacterium isolated from manganese mine soil. Strain ZZJ9^T showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities with Larkinella rosea 15J16-1T3A^T (97.1%), Larkinella terrae 15J8-8^T (97.0%), Larkinella knui 15J6-3T6^T (96.8%), and Larkinella ripae 15J11-1^T (95.3%). The genome size of strain ZZJ9^T was 8.01 Mb and the DNA G+C content was 51.8 mol%. ANI values among strain ZZJ9^T and Larkinella rosea 52004 ^T, Larkinella knui KCTC 42998^T, and Larkinella terrae 52001^T were 80.5%, 82.7%, and 80.5%, respectively. dDDH values among strain ZZJ9^T and Larkinella rosea 52004^T, Larkinella knui KCTC 42998^T, and Larkinella terrae 52001^T were 23.5%, 26.0%, and 23.6%, respectively. Furthermore, the genome of strain ZZJ9^T contained 6302 predicted protein-coding genes and 3114 (49%) of them had classificatory functions. The major quinone of strain ZZJ9^T was menaquinone-7 and the main cellular fatty acids were C_16:1ω5c (39.5%), iso-C_15:0 (25.6%), and iso-C_17:0 3OH (11.5%). The polar lipids of strain ZZJ9^T were phosphatidylethanolamine, unidentified lipid, and two unidentified aminolipids. Based on the results of phylogenetic, genome, phenotypic, and chemotaxonomic analytical, strain ZZJ9^T represents a novel species of the genus Larkinella, for which the name Larkinella punicea sp. Nov. is proposed. The type strain is ZZJ9^T (= KCTC 62876^T = CCTCC AB 2018215^T).

Hymenobacter segetis sp. nov., isolated from soil

A polyphasic taxonomic study was performed on a novel strain designated as S7-3-11^T, which was isolated from soil of the Gyeongsangnam-do province in Republic of Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain S7-3-11^T belongs to the genus Hymenobacter and is most closely related to Hymenobacter ruber PB156^T (97.9%), Hymenobacter daeguensis 16F3Y-2^T (97.8%), Hymenobacter glaciei VUG-A130^T (97.7%), Hymenobacter soli PB17^T (97.5%), Hymenobacter terrae DG7A^T (97.5%), and Hymenobacter antarcticus VUG-A42aa^T (97.3%). However, DNA-DNA hybridization results showed less than 50% relatedness with respect to the type strains of the six most closely related species. The DNA G + C content of strain S7-3-11^T was 60.2 mol%. MK-7 was identified as the predominant respiratory quinone, and summed feature 3 (C_16:1 ω7c/C_16:1 ω6c; 21.5%), C_15:0 iso (16.8%), C_15:0 anteiso (16.2%), and C_15:1 iso G (10.8%) were the major fatty acids. Phosphatidylethanolamine, an unidentified aminolipid, and an unidentified aminophospholipid were detected as major polar lipids. On the basis of the polyphasic evidence presented, strain S7-3-11^T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Hymenobacter, for which the name Hymenobacter segetis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is S7-3-11^T (= KCTC 52732^T = JCM 32197^T).
