Abstract
Leukemia is an incurable disease; it exhibits strong resistance to chemotherapy and other therapies, and it represents the most common childhood cancer and mortality. The cytotoxic of amygdalin (AMG) against the cell line of human monocytic leukemia (THP-1) was recorded, before determining other pharmacological effects. The cells were exposed to AMG for 24 hr at 37°C at different concentrations, the cytotoxic effect was determined via the MTT assay. The cells and the supernatant were collected for analyzing the oxidant/antioxidant status, apoptotic markers, and anti-microbial activity. Results showed a marked anti-proliferative cytotoxic effect of AMG which is concentration and time-dependent, the lipid peroxidation content was significantly decreased while the total thiol was increased in the treated cell line, significant up-regulation of Caspase-3 (Cas-3) and Bcl-2-associated X protein (BAX) and down-regulation of B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2). Furthermore, The bacterial activity was detected via Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC), and Disc Diffusion assays, while the antifungal evaluation was done by the Minimum Fungicidal Concentration (MFC). Antimicrobial experiments revealed that AMG exerted potent, broad-spectrum antimicrobial effects toward a diversity of dangerously infecting pathogens. In conclusion; the prevailing research suggests that AMG is an effective anticarcinogenic and antimicrobial substance. The utilization of AMG subsequently in masks or wound dressings to prevent bacterial & fungal infections, including mucormycosis following COVID-19, as well as infections caused by penicillium and aspergillus, is a highly effective strategy in combating resistant microorganisms.

Abstract
Exposure to pesticides has been linked to an elevated risk of leukemia. The present research aimed to evaluate the relationship between organochlorine (OC) pesticides and biomarkers of oxidative stress in leukemia patients. This work was conducted on 109 patients with leukemia and 109 healthy controls. The serum concentrations of seven derivatives of OCs including alpha-HCH, beta-HCH, gamma-HCH, 2,4-DDT, 4,4-DDT, 2,4-DDE, and 4,4-DDE along with acetylcholinesterase (AChE), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD), paraoxonase-1 (PON1), and catalase (CAT) activities as well as total antioxidant capacity (TAC), nitric oxide (NO), protein carbonyl (PC), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured in all the subjects. Levels of OCs were remarkably higher in leukemia patients compared to the controls (p < 0.05). In addition, levels of SOD, AChE, GPx, PON-1, and TAC were remarkably lower in leukemia patients compared to controls (p < 0.05). In contrast, MDA, NO, and PC concentrations were higher in leukemia patients than in the controls (p < 0.05). Moreover, the serum level of 4,4-DDE was negatively associated with GPx activity (p = 0.038). Our findings suggest that OCs may play a role in the development of leukemia by disrupting the oxidant/antioxidant balance.

Abstract
Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a myeloproliferative disease that activates multiple signaling pathways, causing cells to produce higher levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidases (NOXs) are a major generator of ROS in leukemia, and marine natural products have shown promising activities for the treatment of hematopoietic malignancies. In the present study, we investigated the effect of the marine microalga Skeletonema marinoi (S.M.), a ubiquitous diatom that forms massive blooms in the oceans, on the human leukemia cell line K562. The effects of S.M. extract on cell viability, production of ROS, nitric oxide (NO), and apoptosis were examined. In this preliminary work, S.M. was able to decrease cell viability (p < 0.05) and increase apoptosis levels (p < 0.05) in K562 cells after 48 h of treatment. In addition, the levels of NOX, NO, and malondialdehyde (MDA) were reduced in K562-treated cells (p < 0.05), whereas the levels of SOD, CAT, and GPx increased during treatment (p < 0.05). Finally, analyzing Bax and Bcl-2 expression, we found a significant increase in the proapoptotic protein Bax and a sustained decrease in the antiapoptotic protein Bcl-2 (p < 0.05) in the K562-treated cells.

Abstract
Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have revolutionized the treatment of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). However, continued use of these inhibitors has contributed to the increase in clinical resistance and the persistence of resistant leukemic stem cells (LSCs). So, there is an urgent need to introduce additional targeted and selective therapies to eradicate quiescent LSCs, and to avoid the relapse and disease progression. Here, we focused on emerging BCR-ABL targeted and non-BCR-ABL targeted drugs employed in clinical trials and on alternative CML treatments, including antioxidants, oncolytic virus, engineered exosomes, and natural products obtained from marine organisms that could pave the way for new therapeutic approaches for CML patients.

Lack of Adverse Effects of Cold Physical Plasma-Treated Blood from Leukemia Patients: A Proof-of-Concept Study. APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL 2021. Abstract
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common blood malignancy with multiple therapeutic challenges. Cold physical plasma has been considered a promising approach in cancer therapy in recent years. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the cytotoxic effect of cold plasma or plasma-treated solutions (PTS) on hematologic parameters in the whole blood of CLL patients. The mean red blood cell count, white blood cell (WBC) count, platelet and hemoglobin counts, and peripheral blood smear images did not significantly differ between treated and untreated samples in either CLL or healthy individuals. However, both direct plasma and indirect PTS treatment increased lipid peroxidation and RNS deposition in the whole blood of CLL patients and in healthy subjects. In addition, the metabolic activity of WBCs was decreased with 120 s of cold plasma or PTS treatment after 24 h and 48 h. However, cold plasma and PTS treatment did not affect the prothrombin time, partial thromboplastin time, nor hemolysis in either CLL patients or in healthy individuals. The present study identifies the components of cold plasma to reach the blood without disturbing the basic parameters important in hematology, confirming the idea that the effect of cold plasma may not be limited to solid tumors and possibly extends to hematological disorders. Further cellular and molecular studies are needed to determine which cells in CLL patients are targeted by cold plasma or PTS.

Abstract
Among the different mechanisms involved in oxidative stress, protein carbonylation and lipid peroxidation are both important modifications associated with the pathogenesis of several diseases, including cancer. Hematopoietic cells are particularly vulnerable to oxidative damage, as the excessive production of reactive oxygen species and associated lipid peroxidation suppress self-renewal and induce DNA damage and genomic instability, which can trigger malignancy. A richer understanding of the clinical effects of oxidative stress might improve the prognosis of these diseases and inform therapeutic strategies. The most common protein carbonylation and lipid peroxidation compounds, including hydroxynonenal, malondialdehyde, and advanced oxidation protein products, have been investigated for their potential effect on hematopoietic cells in several studies. In this review, we focus on the most important protein carbonylation and lipid peroxidation biomarkers in hematological malignancies, their role in disease development, and potential treatment implications.

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to identify the association between duration of HU administration prior to IM treatment and MMR achievement in chronic-phase CML while evaluating the role of MDA, HIF-1α and P-gp. Methods: The study was conducted at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital and Dharmais Cancer Hospital, Jakarta using retrospective cohort design to analyse the association between the duration of HU before IM and its MMR achievement and cross-sectional design to analyse the association between MDA, HIF-1α and P-gp expressions with MMR achievement. Main subjects were chronic-phase CML patients treated by HU prior to IM for ≥ 12 months and HU only. The subjects were divided into four main groups: (1) chronic-phase CML patients treated with HU ≤ 6 months + IM ≥ 12 months and (2) HU > 6 months + IM ≥ 12 months (3) HU only (≤ 6 months), (4) HU only ( >6 months). Subjects were obtained from January 2015 to May 2016. Data were gathered through history taking, physical examination, medical record evaluation, and blood sample analysis. Bivariate analysis was conducted using chi square, independent T-test, and Mann-Whitney according to the variables. Results: Administration of HU for more than 6 months prior to IM was associated with unsuccessful MMR achievement (RR 1.60; 95%CI 1.29-2.00). MDA level, HIF-1α, P-glycoprotein expression were not associated with MMR achievement but the mean MDA level (0.63±0.31 vs 0.75±0.41 p=0.461) and median P-glycoprotein expressions {16,92 (0,04 – 43,86) vs. 5,15 (0,02–39,64); p=0.311} were found to be higher in patients receiving HU for > 6 months group than in HU ≤ 6 months group consecutively. Conclusion: Administration of HU for more than 6 months prior to IM was associated with unsuccessful MMR achievement in chronic-phase CML. The study suggested that P-glycoprotein overexpression as the predictor for unsuccessful MMR achievement.

Abstract
Background This work aimed to evaluate oxidative stress in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients treated with tunisian (IM) vs controls and in CML patients with resistance to IM vs patients without resistance to IM. Methods The study included 40 CML patients and 34 controls. Of 40 patients with CML, 26 patients were developed in resistance to IM. The oxidant/antioxidant markers were evaluated by spectrophotometric methods for all used samples. Results For CML patients, increased malondialdehyde (MDA) and advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) levels were found compared to controls (P < .001; P = .01). Higher catalase (CAT) activity (P = .048) and lower superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities, reduced Glutathione (GSH) and vitamin C levels were found in CML patients (P < .001). The comparison between the resistant vs no‐resistant CML patients revealed higher MDA level (P = .02) and CAT and SOD activities in IM‐resistant patients (P = .04, P = .03). GPx activity was reduced (P = .04). Furthermore, increased mean ratio of MDA/GSH, MDA/GPx, and SOD/(GPx + CAT) was found in IM‐resistant patients as compared with no‐resistant (P = .01, P = .01, P = .035). The mean ratio of GPx/GSH in the IM‐resistant CML patients was lower than in IM no‐resistant one (P = .039). For IM‐resistant patients, we found negative correlation between MDA level and the ratio SOD/(CAT + GPx) (r = −0.46, P = .002); and positive correlation between SOD and (CAT + GPx) activities (r = 0.38, P = .06) and between GSH level and GPx activity (r = 0.53, P = .01). Conclusions Our results have shown a highly disturbed oxidative profile in IM‐resistant CML patients as compared to no‐resistant. The H2O2 has a key role in the resistance to IM treatment.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION There is a significant difference in the Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) levels of Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) patients before and during treatment with Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors (TKIs). This is because high ROS levels support oncogenic phenotype of CML by inducing proliferation pathway and accumulation of further genetic mutations. Often the measurement is done on WBC or serum for ascertaining one type of ROS species, but measurement of global ROS in fresh whole blood will give more accurate estimation of ROS. AIM To measure global ROS in peripheral blood of CML patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS A case control study was undertaken to measure ROS in peripheral blood of CML patients from Northern India. CML patients on TKIs (n=40 on imatinib herein called treated) and untreated (n=17, who were not on any TKIs or alternative medicine, called as treatment naive) and 52 healthy controls were also enrolled. Chemiluminescent assay was carried out using luminol as signal enhancer in 400 µl of blood to measure ROS. The chemiluminescence was measured as Relative Light Units (RLU)/sec/104 WBC. Data was presented in terms of mean±SE or geometric mean (95% Confidence Interval) for continuous variables and percentage for categorical variables. Groups were compared using two sample t-test for continuous variables and chi-square test for categorical variables. RESULTS The WBC profile and ROS levels of patients taking TKIs were quite similar and showed no significant difference (p<0.999) compared to healthy controls. In contrast, significant increase was observed in the ROS levels of CML patients not on TKIs (untreated) compared to patients under treatment (p<0.029) and healthy controls (p<0.007). We also observed that the absolute ROS values and WBC counts were higher in untreated patients compared to patients on TKIs and healthy controls, even though mean ROS value was less. CONCLUSION To ascertain the alterations in ROS levels of CML patients before and during treatment with TKIs, it is better to measure global ROS in fresh whole blood by chemiluminescent method using luminol. Luminol assay is a quick, easy and inexpensive method to measure global ROS. Patient under treatment with TKIs show significant decrease in ROS levels almost similar to the levels measured in healthy controls yet the mechanisms by which this decrease occurs needs to be elucidated.

Abstract
Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) represent a heterogeneous group of pre-leukemic disorders, characterized by ineffective hematopoiesis and the abnormal blood cell development of one or more lineages. Oxidative stress, as an important factor in the carcinogenesis of onco-hematological diseases, is also one of the known factors involved in the pathogenesis of MDS. An increase of reactive oxygen species (ROS) may lead to the oxidation of DNA, lipids, and proteins, thereby causing cell damage. Protein carbonylation caused by ROS is defined as an irreversible post-translational oxidative modification of amino acid side chains, and could play an important role in signaling processes. The detection of protein carbonyl groups is a specific useful marker of oxidative stress. In this study, we examined 32 patients divided into three different subtypes of MDS according to the World Health Organization (WHO) classification criteria as refractory anemia with ringed sideroblasts (RARS), refractory cytopenia with multilineage dysplasia (RCMD), refractory anemia with excess blasts-1,2 (RAEB-1,2). We found significant differences in protein carbonylation between the group of all MDS patients and healthy controls (P=0.0078). Furthermore, carbonylated protein levels were significantly elevated in RARS patients compared to healthy donors (P=0.0013) and to RCMD patients (P=0.0277). We also found a significant difference in the total iron binding capacity (TIBC) between individual subgroups of MDS patients (P=0.0263). Moreover, TIBC was decreased in RARS patients compared to RCMD patients (P=0.0203). TIBC moderately negatively correlated with carbonyl levels (r=-0.5978, P=0.0054) in the MDS patients as a whole. Additionally we observed changes in the carbonylated proteins of RARS patients in comparison with healthy controls and their negative controls. Using tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) we identified 27 uniquely carbonylated proteins of RARS patients, which were generated by ROS and could influence the pathophysiology of low-risk MDS. These data indicate that increased protein carbonylation is related with RARS as low-risk MDS subgroup. We suggest that this type of post-translational modification in MDS disease is not "only" a consequence of oxidative stress, but also plays an active role in the pathophysiology and iron metabolism within the RARS subgroup of MDS. Measurement of plasma carbonyl levels and the isolation of carbonylated plasma proteins, followed by their identification, could serve as a potential diagnostic and prognostic tool in MDS.

Abstract
Oxidative stress (OS), due to pro-oxidant species [reactive oxygen species (ROS)] excess not counterbalanced by endogenous antioxidant molecules [e.g., reduced glutathione (GSH)], is involved in the pathogenesis of human cancers, but few data are available on essential thrombocythemia (ET). This study aims to investigate OS in ET off-therapy patients. Thirty ET treatment-naïve patients were compared with 26 age-matched and gender-matched controls. Serum ROS, urinary 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine, full blood GSH levels, and reduced/oxidized GSH ratio (GSH/GSSG) were measured. Data were adjusted for gender, age, JAK2 mutational status, smoking, dyslipidemia, or hypercholesterolemia requiring drug therapy, antiplatelet therapy, treatment with acetylsalicylic acid, high-sensitive C-reactive protein levels, and absolute monocyte count. ROS and GSH levels were increased in both patients and controls. Patients showed increased GSSG (p = 0.05), reduced GSH/GSSG ratio (p = 0.08), and similar 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine levels when compared with controls. No differences in OS parameters were found between JAK2-positive and JAK2-negative patients. Confounding factors did not modify the results. Our study suggests an OS condition in a cohort of treatment-naïve ET patients, not associated with JAK2 mutational status or with chronic inflammation situation. GSH/GSSG ratio, altered in ET patients because of increased GSSG levels, showed the presence of higher GSH levels in ET than controls as a possible compensatory mechanism of an excess of pro-oxidant production. Abstract
Hematological malignancies present abnormal blood cells that may have altered functions. This study aimed to evaluate nutritional status, acute phase proteins, parameters of cell's functionality, and oxidative stress of patients with hematological malignancies, providing a representation of these variables at diagnosis, comparisons between leukemias and lymphomas and establishing correlations. Nutritional status, C-reactive protein (CRP), albumin, phagocytic capacity and superoxide anion production of mononuclear cells, lipid peroxidation and catalase activity in plasma were evaluated in 16 untreated subjects. Main diagnosis was acute leukemia (n = 9) and median body mass index (BMI) indicated overweight (25.6 kg/m(2)). Median albumin was below (3.2 g/dL) and CRP above (37.45 mg/L) the reference values. Albumin was inversely correlated with BMI (r = -0.53). Most patients were overweight before the beginning of treatment and had a high CRP/albumin ratio, which may indicate a nutrition inflammatory risk. BMI values correlated positively with lipid peroxidation and catalase activity. A strong correlation between catalase activity and lipid peroxidation was found (r = 0.75). Besides the elevated BMI, these patients also have elevated CRP values and unexpected relations between nutritional status and albumin, reinforcing the need for nutritional counseling during the course of chemotherapy, especially considering the correlations between oxidative stress parameters and nutritional status evidenced here.

Abstract
Various circulating biochemical markers are indicators of pathological state in leukemia and its subtypes. Increased oxidative stress and decreased antioxidant factors portray clear image associated with malignancies during subtypes of leukemia. In this research work we investigated the inter-relationship among the subtypes of leukemia with circulating biochemical markers and oxidative stress in the Pakistani population. This research work was conducted on a total number of 70 subjects in which 20 were control participants and 50 were suffering from leukemia and divided into two subtypes (ALL and AML). Various circulating biomarkers were investigated including hematological, hepatic and renal profiles as well as oxidative stress markers, electrolytes and vitamins C and E. Results show that vitamin E was found to be decreased in diseased sub-types (P < 0.05). Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were very high in disease sub-types (ALL-B = 8.69 ± 1.59; ALL-T = 8.78 ± 0.97; AML = 8.50 ± 1.29) compared to controls (1.22 ± 0.10; P < 0.05) while the levels of antioxidants [superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), reduced glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT)], platelets, as well as electrolytes (Ca and Mg) were reduced in patients suffering from leukemia (sub-types). Enhanced levels of oxidative stress (MDA) and decreased levels of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants reflect the pathological state and impaired cell control in patients suffering from leukemia (subtypes) and show a strong correlation with oxidative stress, indicating that patients' biological systems are under oxidative stress.

Abstract
Breast cancer is the first of the most common ten cancers in Iraq. Its etiology is mulifactorial, oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation being suggested to play important roles in carcinogenesis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the oxidant-antioxidant status in breast cancer patients, by measuring SOD isoenzyme activities (total SOD, CuZn-SOD, Mn-SOD and EC-SOD) in plasma and breast tumors, and by estimating thiobarbituric reactive substance (TBRS) in tissue homogenates. General increase in total SOD activity was observed in plasma and tissue samples of breast tumors, greater in the malignant when compared to benign group (p<0.05). Mn- SOD showed a significant decrease in tissue malignant samples (p<0.05), and insignificant decrease in plasma malignant samples compared with control and benign samples. Plasma EC-SOD activity in both patient benign and malignant breast tumors demonstrated 3.5% and 22.8% increase, respectively. However, there was a decrease in tissue EC-SOD activity in malignant breast tumors when compared with benign. A similar tendency was noted for TBRS.We suggested that elevated total SOD might reflect a response to oxidative stress, and then may predict a state of excess reactive oxygen species in the carcinogenesis process. If there is proteolytic removal of the heparin binding domain, EC-SOD will lose its affinity for the extracellular matrix and diffuse out of the tissue. This will result in a decreased EC-SOD activity, thus leading to an increase in the steady-state concentration of O2- in this domain, and increase in EC-SOD activity in extracellular fluid. This might explain the result recorded here concerning the decrease in tissue EC-SOD activity and increase in plasma of breast cancer patients.

Abstract
Background: Chronic myeloid leukemia is a neoplasm characterized by clonal expansion of hematopoietic progenitor cells resulting from the (9:22)(q34,11) translocation. The tyrosine kinase abl fusion protein,the initial leukemogenic event in chronic myeloid leukemia, is constitutively activated thus inducing the production of reactive oxygen species. Of particular relevance is the fact that an increase in reactive oxygen species can facilitate genomic instability and may contribute to disease progression. Objetive: To evaluate oxidative stress by determining the levels of malondialdehyde and nitrite in chronic myeloid leukemia patients under treatment with 1st and 2nd generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors monitored at a referral hospital in Fortaleza, Ceará. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed of 64 male and female adults. Patients were stratified according to treatment. The levels of malondialdehyde and nitrite were determined by spectrophotometry. Statistical differences between groups were observed using the Student t-test and Fisher's exact test. The results are expressed as mean ± standard error of mean. The significance level was set for a p-value < 0.05 in all analyses. Results: The results show significantly higher mean concentrations of nitrite and malondialdehyde in chronic myeloid leukemia patients using second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors compared to patients on imatinib. Conclusion: It follows that chronic myeloid leukemia patients present higher oxidative activity and that the increases in oxidative damage markers can indicate resistance to 1st generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of oxidative stress in the pathobiology of lymphoid leukaemias and its involvement in leukaemic relapse. For this purpose the generation of peroxides by mononuclear cells, the erythrocyte activity of superoxide-dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GL-PX), and the plasma levels of reduced glutathione (GSH) and vitamin E (VIT E) were determined in 52 patients with two different types of lymphoid leukaemias, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), 36 prior to chemotherapy and 16 treated patients. A decrease in SOD and GL-PX activities was observed in ALL patients prior to therapy, while a decrease in GSH and VIT E plasma levels was observed in untreated CLL, as compared to age-matched controls. An increase in peroxides formation occurred in both types of leukaemia, as compared to age-matched controls. There are significant differences for GSH, VIT E and peroxides generation between the different types of leukaemias. In relapsed ALL patients a decrease in peroxides generation was observed which may be due to the increase of the non-enzymatic defences GSH and VIT E. These data suggest the involvement of oxidative stress in acute and chronic lymphoid leukaemias and leukaemic relapse.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To measure the oxidant/antioxidant status of newborn babies with oesophageal atresia and their mothers, compared with healthy control subjects. METHODS: This case—control study included 40 participants: 10 newborns with oesophageal atresia and their mothers, and 10 healthy newborns and their mothers. Whole blood malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and the activities of antioxidant enzymes (catalase, carbonic anhydrase [CA], glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase [G-6-PD], and superoxide dismutase [SOD]) were measured. RESULTS: MDA levels and CA activity were significantly higher, and catalase, SOD and G-6-PD activities were significantly lower, in newborns with oesophageal atresia and their mothers than in healthy newborns and their mothers. Although CA activity was similar between the newborns and mothers in the patient group, it was significantly lower in newborns than in mothers in the healthy group. CONCLUSIONS: Increased lipid peroxidation might play an important role in the pathogenesis of oesophageal atresia. Impairment of the free radical/antioxidant balance may lead to increased free radical and decreased antioxidant levels in oesophageal atresia.

Abstract
The antioxidant and antiproliferative activities of the essential oils from Laurus nobilis leaves and seeds in relation to their composition were analysed. The most abundant components of the leaf essential oil were 1,8-cineole, 1-p-menthen-8-ethyl acetate, linalool and sabinene, while the seed oil was characterised by β-ocimene, 1,8-cineole, α-pinene and β-pinene as main constituents. Both seed and leaf essential oils exhibited a scavenging effect on the DPPH radical, with IC₅₀ values of 66.1 and 53.5 µg mL⁻¹, respectively. The leaf essential oil showed the strongest antioxidant activity in the β-carotene/linoleic acid system, with an IC₅₀ value of 35.6 µg mL⁻¹ after 30 min of incubation. Both leaf and seed oils inhibited proliferation of the K562 tumour cell line with IC₅₀ values of 95 and 75 µg mL⁻¹, respectively. The L. nobilis leaf oil showed a percentage of erythroide differentiation of 15% at a concentration of 10 µg mL⁻¹. A value of 12% was found for the seed essential oil at a concentration of 50 µg mL⁻¹. When the oils were added to a suboptimal concentration of the commercial drug, cytosine arabinoside, a clear synergic effect was observed.
