Abstract
This study details the design, fabrication, clinical trials' evaluation, and analysis after the clinical application of 3D-printed bone reconstruction implants made of nHAp@PLDLLA [nanohydroxyapatite@poly(L-lactide-co-D,L-lactide)] biomaterial. The 3D-printed formulations have been tested as bone reconstruction Cranioimplants in 3 different medical cases, including frontal lobe, mandibular bone, and cleft palate reconstructions. Replacing one of the implants after 6 months provided a unique opportunity to evaluate the post-surgical implant obtained from a human patient. This allowed us to quantify physicochemical changes and develop a spatial map of osseointegration and material degradation kinetics as a function of specific locations. To the best of our knowledge, hydrolytic degradation and variability in the physicochemical and mechanical properties of the biomimetic, 3D-printed implants have not been quantified in the literature after permanent placement in the human body. Such analysis has revealed the constantly changing properties of the implant, which should be considered to optimize the design of patient-specific bone substitutes. Moreover, it has been proven that the obtained composition can produce biomimetic, bioresorbable and bone-forming alloplastic substitutes tailored to each patient, allowing for shorter surgery times and faster patient recovery than currently available methods.

Abstract
Abscess of the corpus cavernosum is a rare condition. We describe the case of a 36-year-old male presenting with bilateral corpus cavernousm abscesses, on a background of distal shunt procedures for recurrent priapism, that was managed with a bilateral corporotomy and systemic antibiotic therapy. Abstract
Background Infections caused by Prevotella bivia, a gram-negative anaerobic bacillus, are rare, with no reported cases in Japan. We present a novel case of scrotal abscess in a Japanese patient co-infected with Prevotella bivia and Streptococcus agalactiae. Case Presentation A 41-year-old uncontrolled diabetic man complained of swelling and pain in the scrotum. On examination, computed tomography revealed an abscess of 5-cm diameter in the scrotum. Then, the abscess was incised and drained. He was treated with cefazolin empirically. Prevotella bivia and Streptococcus agalactiae were identified in the pus cultures obtained from the abscess. However, the susceptibility tests for Prevotella bivia could not be submitted. Seven days following admission, the pain reduced, and the drainage slowed. The patient was discharged on day 14 when cefazolin was discontinued and oral amoxicillin (750 mg/day) was started. Amoxicillin was continued until day 42; improvement was confirmed. Conclusion To the best of our knowledge, this case is the first report of Prevotella bivia in Japan. We suggest that cephem antibiotics such as cefazolin may be effective against Prevotella bivia in Japan.

Abstract
Background The street food sector has become an important component of the food distribution system in many cities in both developing and industrialised countries, particularly for midday meals. However, certain street food can pose a significant risk to consumers because of microbiological contamination. Aim The aim of this study was to determine the microbial levels of street foods and preparation surfaces in Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality. Setting The study selected study setting was vending sites close to taxi ranks where prepared meals were accessible to consumers. Methods The study was conducted in Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality during the winter season. Samples were collected through convenience sampling from the representative towns Thaba Nchu, Botshabelo and Bloemfontein. Using swabs, surface samples were collected and quantified from selective media. Eight beef samples were also collected; the microbial load on each sample was quantified and identified using a RapID kit. Results The surface swabs obtained in Botshabelo (1.1 × 104 cfu/m2 – 1.1 × 106 cfu/m2) showed higher microbial counts as compared to those obtained in Bloemfontein (1.1 × 104 cfu/m2 – 1.1 × 105 cfu/m2) and Thaba Nchu (1.1 × 104 cfu/m2 – 1.1 × 105 cfu/m2). Higher microbial counts were observed on meat samples sampled in Thaba Nchu (50 cfu/g x 105 cfu/g), Bloemfontein (48 cfu/g x 104 cfu/g) and Botshabelo (33 cfu/g x 105 cfu/g) when compared to international microbiological standards. After assessing the microbial levels, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida guilliermondii, Corynebacterium jeikeium, Psychrobacter phenylpyruvicus and Peptostreptococcus tetradius were identified. Conclusion This study confirmed contamination of surfaces and food served by vendors in Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality. The identified foodborne bacteria could pose a public health problem in each specific locality.

Abstract
Prevotella bivia is an anaerobic, gram-negative bacillus which naturally thrives in the human vagina, and is usually related to vaginal tract infections. However, this microorganism can also cause infections in other body locations. Infections with Prevotella bivia are frequently severe due to the risk of osteomyelitis and the lack of good protocols for adequate therapeutic management. Staphylococcus haemolyticus infection is one of the most frequent etiological factors of nosocomial infections, which hasthe ability to acquire multiple resistance against antimicrobial agents. We report a rare case of foot and hand paronychia with superinfection of Prevotella bivia and Staphylococcus haemolyticus. We highlight the importance of early microbiological diagnosis, and proper therapeutic management to avoid the risk of complications and the development of bacterial resistance to antibiotics.

Abstract
is a gram-positive bacillus in the female genital tract believed to be a commensal
organism that inhibits the growth of more virulent pathogens. Prevotella bivia is a gram-negative bacillus species also typically
commensal in the female genital tract. Lactobacillus as
the primary causative agent in perinephric abscesses and bacteremia has been documented,
albeit very uncommon and opportunistic. Prevotella
bivia is not classically associated with perinephric abscesses but has been
implicated in rare cases of pelvic inflammatory disease and tubo-ovarian abscesses. In
this report, we present a 26-year-old immunocompetent woman with a recent history of
nephrolithiasis treated with lithotripsy, ureteral stent placement and removal, and
antibiotics who was admitted for fever and severe right flank pain. Imaging showed a
right-sided renal and perinephric abscesses colonized by Lactobacillus jensenii and Prevotella bivia.
Blood cultures were also positive for Lactobacillus
species. Per literature review, intravenous ceftriaxone and metronidazole were
administered with successful resolution of abscesses and negative repeat blood
cultures. To our knowledge, this is the first case of simultaneous renal system
abscesses caused by Lactobacillus and Prevotella species. Nephrolithiasis and prior antibiotics likely contributed
to the opportunistic pathogenesis in this otherwise immunocompetent patient.

Abstract
Introduction Prevotella bacilli are prevalent in the body as members of the normal flora and in some cases they can be involved in infections throughout the body. Prevotella bivia is a member of a nonpigment group found in the resident flora of the female genital tract and it is occasionally seen in the oral cavity. Case report We describe the very rare case of a 39-year-old woman with fulminant generalized peritonitis secondary to purulent salpingitis caused by Prevotella bivia. Discussion In most cases described in the literature, Prevotella bivia was mixed with aerobes and caused bacterial vaginosis and pelvic inflammatory disease, whereas in our case study Prevotella bivia was the only microbe that was isolated. The infection was fulminant and caused generalized peritonitis. Rapid and systemic infections typically occur in immunocompromised hosts, however our patient was in good health condition and immunocompetent. Conclusions Prevotella bivia may cause rapid and systemic infections, even in immunocompetent hosts. Multidisciplinary team management is mandatory in order to estimate the optimal treatment regimen.
