Andean Capuli Fruit Derived Anisotropic Gold Nanoparticles with Antioxidant and Photocatalytic Activity

Non-ionic surfactant-assisted controlled release of oxyresveratrol on dendritic fibrous silica for topical applications

We present a simple and eco-friendly method for controlled drug release using a surfactant-assisted method. Oxyresveratrol (ORES) was co-loaded with a non-ionic surfactant onto KCC-1, a dendritic fibrous silica, using an ethanol evaporation technique. The carriers were characterized using FE-SEM, TEM, XRD, N₂ adsorption-desorption, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy, and the loading and encapsulation efficiencies were assessed using TGA and DSC techniques. Contact angle and zeta potential were used to determine the surfactant arrangement and the particle charges. To investigate the effects of different surfactants (Tween 20, Tween 40, Tween 80, Tween 85, and Span 80) on ORES release, we conducted experiments under different pH and temperature conditions. Results showed that the types of surfactants, drug loading content, pH, and temperature significantly affected the drug release profile. The percentage of drug loading efficiency of the carriers was in the range of 80 %-100 %, and the release of ORES was in the order of M/KCC-1 > M/K/S80 > M/K/T40 > M/K/T20 > MK/T80 > M/K/T85 at 24 h. Furthermore, the carriers provided excellent protection for ORES against UVA and maintained its antioxidant activity. KCC-1 and Span 80 enhanced the cytotoxicity to HaCaT cells, while Tween 80 suppressed the cytotoxicity.

Honeybee pollen assisted biosynthesis of nanogold and its application as catalyst in reduction of 4-nitrophenol

Nowadays, the exploration of natural materials for the production of nanoparticles is of special interest due to its ecofriendly nature. In this paper, we presented the biosynthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in a green route by using water extract of pollen from Andean honeybees. Furthermore, AuNPs have been characterized by various techniques and tested for the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). The biosynthesized AuNPs were analyzed using UV-vis spectroscopy, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Dynamic light scattering (DLS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy to confirm their optical properties, stability, surface morphology, and purity. The synthesized AuNPs proved to be well dispersed, spherical, and triangular in shape, with particle sizes ranging from 7 to 42 nm having λ_max at 530 nm. Moreover, FTIR suggests the capping of AuNPs with pollen constituents and XRD confirms the crystalline structure of AuNPs. Additionally, prepared AuNPs were demonstrated to be effective in reducing organic pollutant 4-NP to 4-aminophenol (k = 59.17898 × 10^-3 min^-1, R² = 0.994). All of these studies have emphasized that AuNPs production can be scale up by using naturally available pollen grains and open up a new perspective for beekeepers.

Proficient mycogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles by soil derived fungus Aspergillus melleus SSS-10 with cytotoxic and antibacterial potency

The present study aimed at evaluating the extracellular synthesis of silver nanoparticles by soil fungus Aspergillus melleus SSS-10 for antibacterial and cytotoxic activity. In this study, the formation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was estimated by the colour change in cell free extract from pale yellow to golden yellow after 24 h of the reaction. UV-Vis study showed the absorbance maxima at 410 nm. Tauc plot analysis revealed the band gap energy as 2.34 eV. Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) data revealed polydisperse anisotropic silver nanoparticles with average hydrodynamic diameter of 92.006 nm. Zeta potential of - 19.6 mV provided evidence of stable silver nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed four prominent Bragg peaks corresponding to (111), (200), (220) and (311) planes characteristic of silver (Ag) in FCC structural configuration. Average crystallite size was found to be 87.3 nm from Scherrer equation. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis revealed irregular morphology of silver nanoparticles. EDS analysis displayed characteristic energy peaks of silver from 2.72 keV to 3.52 keV confirming the presence of silver nanoparticles. Biosynthesized AgNPs exhibited strong cytotoxic potential on MG-63 cells. AgNPs also showed antibacterial activity against both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. In conclusion, this study provides a platform to explore the utility of fungal mediated silver nanoparticles synthesized for various pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical applications.

The Antioxidant Effect of the Metal and Metal-Oxide Nanoparticles

Inorganic nanoparticles, such as CeO₃, TiO₂ and Fe₃O₄ could be served as a platform for their excellent performance in antioxidant effect. They may offer the feasibility to be further developed for their smaller and controllable sizes, flexibility to be modified, relative low toxicity as well as ease of preparation. In this work, the recent progress of these nanoparticles were illustrated, and the antioxidant mechanism of the inorganic nanoparticles were introduced, which mainly included antioxidant enzyme-mimetic activity and antioxidant ROS/RNS scavenging activity. The antioxidant effects and the applications of several nanoparticles, such as CeO₃, Fe₃O₄, TiO₂ and Se, are summarized in this paper. The potential toxicity of these nanoparticles both in vitro and in vivo was well studied for the further applications. Future directions of how to utilize these inorganic nanoparticles to be further applied in some fields, such as medicine, cosmetic and functional food additives were also investigated in this paper.
