Electrocatalytic Determination of Hg(II) by the Modified Carbon Paste Electrode with Sn(IV)-Clinoptilolite Nanoparticles

Synthesis of Fe-THC MOFs and functionalizing MOFs by MXenes for the selective removal of lead(ii) ions from wastewater

The elimination of heavy metals, especially lead, from wastewater is vital for the environment and human health and using a proper adsorbent to achieve this goal is highly desirable. Initially, Fe-THC MOF was prepared using a simple method and functionalized using MXene for efficient, rapid, and selective elimination of lead. Different characterization tools demonstrated that Fe-THC MOF and its composite Fe-THC/MXene were successfully prepared. The adsorption outcomes showed that the maximum sorption capability was 674 mg g^-1 at 305 K and pH 4.5. The sorption kinetics obeys the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the sorption isotherms fit the Langmuir isotherm model. This finding suggests monolayer sorption on Fe-THC/MXene, and the rate-controlling step is chemisorption. Thermodynamic findings exhibit that sorption was a spontaneous and exothermic process. The sorption process can selectively adsorb Pb ions from aqueous media. After five adsorption-desorption tests, the adsorption efficiency of Fe-THC/MXene was still high. The sorption mechanism of lead on Fe-THC was mainly due to the interaction of lead ions with -F and -O ions and porosity of the Fe-THC/MXene composite. The -O and -F ions were derived from MXene, while the porosity was derived from the MOFs of composites. These findings confirmed that Fe-THC/MXene enables rapid, efficient, and selective elimination of lead from wastewater, which is of practical importance.

Revealing the unique process of alloying reaction in Ni-Co-Sb/C nanosphere anode for high-performance lithium storage

The strategy of "template sacrifice method" was proposed to synthesize well-defined NiSb/CoSb nanoparticles embedded in carbon nanosphere (Ni-Co-Sb/C, ~560 nm) by calcination treatment of the Ni-Co-MOF (metal-organic framework) precursor. Due to the structural controllability of MOF precursor and Ni/Co bimetallic synergy, the fabricated Ni-Co-Sb/C demonstrates a high surface area (88 m² g^-1) and superior ion conductivity, thus an excellent electrochemical performance as has been achieved as lithium ion battery (LIB) anode. A reversible discharge specific capacity as high as 495.1 mAh g^-1 has been stably delivered after 1000 cycles at a high current density of 1.0 A g^-1. In addition, the charge transfer impedance of Ni-Co-Sb/C electrode is as low as 67.6 Ω in the 30th cycle at 0.1 A g^-1 and the pseudocapacitive contribution is as high as 73.8% at 0.5 mV s^-1. The alloying mechanism of Ni-Co-Sb/C has been verified by in-situ X-ray diffraction (XRD), which enables a high lithium storage capacity. Moreover, the full-cell assembled with LiCoO₂ as cathode exhibits a steady discharge specific capacity of 354.0 mAh g^-1 at 0.1 A g^-1 even after 100 cycles. Our work provides an effective method for the application and high-capacity Sb-based material in energy storage fields, and this material is expected as a promising candidate for a novel anode material in LIBs.

Efficient recovery of Cu(II) by LTA-zeolites with hierarchical pores and their resource utilization in electrochemical denitrification: Environmentally friendly design and reutilization of waste in water

Water pollution seriously endangers human health and the environment. Here we prepared and tested mesoporous LTA zeolites for the adsorption of Cu(II) from aqueous media and the captured copper was further used for electrochemical nitrate reduction. The prepared hierarchically porous LTA exhibited a high capacity (341.5 mg g^-1) for Cu(II) adsorption, following the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models well. The Cu-LTA sample was characterised by various analytical methods, and Cu(I) species were identified as the active sites for nitrate electrochemical reduction. Based on the spectral characterization and reducibility, strong metal-support interaction was found between copper and LTA, which is beneficial to the dispersion of active sites and their contacts with nitrates. In total, 10.1 g-N-NO₃ g^-1-Cu was reduced over the Cu-LTA-modified cathode in a three-electrode system with high N₂ selectivity (92.1 %). Compared to purely microporous zeolites, mesoporous LTA has a higher capacity for Cu(II) removal and nitrate reduction. The mesoporous structure allows easy access to the inner active sites with low diffusion resistance. The low Tafel slope and high current density confirm the high activity of the mesoporous Cu-LTA, making it a promising and efficient material for the removal and reuse of heavy metal ions.
