Study protocol: Developing telephone follow-up scale for patients with disorders of consciousness

Background

The significant lack of rehabilitation prognostic data is the main reason that affects the treatment decision-making and ethical issues of patients with disorders of consciousness (DoC). Currently, the clinic's consciousness assessment tools cannot satisfy DoC patients' follow-up needs.

Objective

The purpose of this study is to construct a sensitive, professional, and simple telephone follow-up scale for DoC patients to follow up on the prognosis, especially the recovery of consciousness, of prolonged DoC patients transferred to community hospitals or at home.

Methods

This study is to adopt expert consultation to construct and to verify the validity and feasibility of the scale on-site.

Conclusion

At present, there is a strong demand for portable, accurate, and easily operated scales. It is helpful to improve the rehabilitation data of prolonged DoC patients and provide more basis for their treatment and rehabilitation.

Transitional Care for Patients With Portal Hypertension: A Multicenter Study of Intervention for Post-TIPS Patients

To explore the application effect of transitional nursing in patients with TIPS. A total of 368 patients were allocated to control group (conventional care) and intervention group (conventional care combined with transitional care). The Child-Pugh scores, blood ammonia levels, compliance behavior, medication compliance, and adverse event incidence rates were compared at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months post-TIPS. There were significant differences in compliance behavior scores, Child-Pugh scores for group effects, time effects, and group × time interaction between the two groups at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months post-TIPS, significant differences in blood ammonia levels at 9 months, and incidence of postoperative adverse events at 12 months after TIPS. Post-TIPS transitional care interventions increased patients' access to scientifically informed nursing, significantly improved patients' compliance behavior and health and decreased the incidence of postoperative adverse events.

Effect of Continuing Nursing Education on the Quality of Nursing Management of Cancer Pain in China

BACKGROUND

Limited knowledge and poor attitudes toward pain are major barriers to nursing management of cancer pain. This study investigated the effect of continuing nursing education (CNE) on the management of cancer pain.

METHOD

Annual CNE was provided from 2016 to 2019, and evaluation of nursing management of cancer pain was conducted every 2 years. The effect of CNE was determined based on the evaluation results.

RESULTS

After annual CNE, the participating hospitals showed significant improvement in nursing management of cancer pain. Annual CNE significantly increased subscores in all domains except the domain of initial pain assessment. In terms of hospital levels, nursing management of cancer pain was significantly improved only for tertiary A hospitals.

CONCLUSION

Annual CNE significantly improved nursing management of cancer pain. [J Contin Educ Nurs. 2021;52(11):535-540.].
