Ejaculation Frequency and Prostate Cancer Risk: A Narrative Review of Current Evidence

Prostate cancer, constituting a substantial portion of global cancer incidence and mortality, prompts a critical examination of potential modifiers, notably ejaculation frequency. This narrative review explores the complex relationship between ejaculation frequency and prostate cancer risk, addressing the paucity of consensus and the intricate interplay of factors. The evidence drawn from eleven studies with diverse methodologies reveals a complex understanding of this association. While some studies suggest an inverse correlation between ejaculation frequency and prostate cancer risk, signifying a potential protective effect, others present conflicting findings, necessitating a comprehensive exploration. Evidence synthesis underscores the importance of considering age, urinary health, and lifestyle factors in elucidating the ejaculation frequency-prostate cancer relationship. Notably, technological advancements, including machine learning models and genetic markers, enhance the precision of patient counselling and individualized care. In a clinical context, the findings emphasize the clinical relevance of incorporating sexual behavior into preventive strategies. Public health campaigns emerge as influential tools, breaking taboos, raising awareness, and empowering men to prioritize their well-being. The paradigm shift in prostate cancer understanding, fueled by technology and personalized medicine, holds promise for more accurate risk assessments. Liquid biopsies, multiparametric MRI, and considerations of the gut microbiome present avenues for tailored preventive strategies. However, methodological challenges and study variations necessitate further research, emphasizing consistency, exploring underlying mechanisms, and a life course perspective.

Knowledge and Awareness of Screening for Prostate Cancer Risk Factors and Symptoms Among the General Population in Tabuk City, Saudi Arabia

Background Early-stage prostate cancer may not show any signs. Digital rectal examination and the prostate-specific antigen test are frequently used in the screening for prostate cancer. The objective of this research is to assess the knowledge and awareness of screening prostate cancer among males in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Methodology A cross-sectional study was performed among Saudi males in Tabuk City. A structured interviewing technique based on a questionnaire was used based on the objectives and research questions. Data were collected by well-trained data collectors from the general population in Tabuk City who were randomly chosen in proportion to the city's population density. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was done to evaluate the variables related to knowledge and awareness in this study. Results This questionnaire was completed by a total of 417 male participants. In the studied group, 86.8% of participants had heard about prostate cancer through friends (59%), TV/radio/newspaper (53.24%), and other health services (41.49%). In addition, around 67.6% of participants knew about the prostate cancer screening test. In addition, 32.4% of participants had no prior knowledge of prostate cancer or a screening test. Conclusions There was a good level of awareness and attitude toward screening methods for prostate cancer (54.7%). Aside from having good knowledge regarding prostate cancer symptoms among males in Tabuk City, all participants with regard to demographic distribution showed a significant level of good knowledge and awareness of screening prostate cancer methods and the necessity of performing regular prostate examinations.

Awareness of Prostate Cancer among the Sportsmen in the Republic of Serbia

Prostate cancer is the second most commonly occurring cancer in men. Regardless of statistics, screening for prostate cancer is an individual decision and most male patients come for their first examination with an already developed disease, as they are not adequately informed. The study aimed to emphasize the importance of preventive tests for urological diseases in the Republic of Serbia, raise awareness about urinary problems, and present social marketing strategies for prevention. The results confirm the generally lower awareness of respondents under the age of 30, followed by those who finished university, go to the doctor two or three times a year, and receive information other than by watching TV. Implemented research indicates the influence of the marketing principles and social marketing strategies on possible target groups of the male population over 50, which is aimed at raising awareness of the importance of prevention of urological diseases and the expected changes in the health behavior of the target population.

Awareness about prostate cancer and its screening in Medina, Jeddah, and Makkah, Saudi Arabia population

Background:

Prostate cancer (PCa) is a global burden on public health; it has been ranked as the second common cancer worldwide, with 1.3 million new cases in 2018. Developed countries have a higher incidence than in developing countries. Because of the lack of studies on PCa in Saudi Arabia, our study aims to measure the awareness about PCa and knowledge of PCa screening practices among men in Medina, Jeddah, and Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

Methodology:

A cross-sectional study conducted among males in Medina, Jeddah, and Makkah, Saudi Arabia, from 2^nd to 10^th July 2020, using a validated questionnaire. The sample size was 1212 participants. Data collected through an online questionnaire. All data analyses performed using (SPSS) software, using the Chi-square test for bivariate analysis. All levels of significance were set at P < 0.05.

Results:

We collected 1212 completed surveys, with mean ages of 36 years (standard deviation ± 12.77). We found that 77% of participants heard about PCa, and 52.5% heard about PCa screening tests. This study showed that only 10.6% of all participants had good knowledge, 41.9% had fair knowledge, and 47.5% had poor knowledge. Only 3.9% of participants had experienced the prostate-specific antigen test.

Conclusion:

The study showed that the level of knowledge of PCa is low. Thus, community and individuals should collaborate to increase awareness by having more awareness campaigns, disseminating the information through the media, and encouraging men to do screening tests as indicated. In addition, including more Saudi Arabia cities in future studies is preferable to have more precise outcomes.
