Utilization of Bi2WO6-encapsulated polyaniline-based redox reactions for the efficient detoxification of organic pollutants

Enhanced photocatalytic degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) Using NiO nanoparticles

The oncogenic and genetic properties of anthracene, a member of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) family, pose a significant health threat to humans. This study aims to investigate the photocatalytic decomposition of anthracene under various conditions, such as different concentrations of PAHs, varying amounts of NiO (nickel oxide) nanoparticles, and different pH levels under ultraviolet light and sunlight. The synthesized NiO nanoparticles showed surface plasma resonance at 230 and 360 nm, while XRD and SEM analysis confirmed the nanoparticles were cubic crystalline in structure with sizes ranging between 37 and 126 nm. NiO nanoparticles exhibited 79% degradation of pyrene at 2 μg/mL of anthracene within 60 min of treatment. NiO at 10 μg/mL concentration showed significant adsorption of 57%, while the adsorption method worked efficiently (72%) at 5 pH. Photocatalytic degradation was confirmed by isotherm and kinetic studies through monolayer adsorption and pseudo-first-order kinetics. Further, the absorption process was confirmed by performing GC-MS analysis of the NiO nanoparticles. On the other hand, NiO nanoparticles showed antimicrobial activity against Gram negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Therefore, the present work is one of its kind proving the dual application of NiO nanoparticles, which makes them suitable candidates for bioremediation by treating PAHs and killing pathogenic bacteria.

Construction of a Bi2WO6/BiVO4 photocatalytic system for efficient visible light degradation of tetracycline drugs

A Bi₂WO₆/BiVO₄ composite photocatalytic material was synthesized by the hydrothermal method, and achieved the effective degradation of oxytetracycline (OTC) and tetracycline (TC) under visible light. The compositions, structures, chemical states and optoelectronic properties of Bi₂WO₆, BiVO₄ and Bi₂WO₆/BiVO₄ composites were characterized by systematic characterization. The results show that the existence of the heterojunction interface facilitates the separation of photogenerated carriers. Compared with the pure catalyst of Bi₂WO₆ and BiVO₄, the Bi₂WO₆/BiVO₄ composite material significantly improves the degradation efficiency of OTC and TC. The degradation rate is 6.22 and 3.02 times higher than that of Bi₂WO₆ and BiVO₄, respectively. Through the free radical quenching experiments, it is known that photogenerated holes (h⁺) and superoxide anion free radicals (·O₂ ^-) are the main active substances in the degradation of OTC. By analyzing the process of photocatalytic degradation of OTC, there are mainly six intermediates during the process. Their possible degradation pathways are also inferred in this paper.

World is facing two major problems, day by day demand of energy and pollution on the planet increasing with the advancement of human activities. These are real problems not only for developing countries but also for developed civilization. Present energy sources are not enough to fulfill the demand of modern world these sources are limited and number of side effects from these. Other major problem pollution that is discussed in this article, very alarming number of population every year affected from pollution and death rate from pollution is very high. In this article, briefly review how photocatalytic technique help us to resolve these problem by environmental friendly, cost effective, less energy consumption and minimum side effect approach. This article cover the main concept about photo-catalysis technique and its related terms. The main feature of efficient photocatalytic activity is selection of photo-catalyst, briefly presentation for which types of nanomaterials are suitable for cost effective and efficient catalytic activity. An overview of application of photocatalytic activity for waste water splitting for H₂ production, waste water treatment and air disinfection, which types of catalyst are for these application and briefly discussed factor affecting the catalytic activity.
