Abstract
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a complex health condition associated with metabolic disturbances and infertility. Recent data suggest that the prevalence of PCOS is increasing among women globally, although the etiology of these trends is undefined. Consequently, preclinical models that better reflect the biology of PCOS are urgently needed to facilitate research that can lead to the discovery of prevention strategies or improved management. The existing animal models have several limitations as they do not reflect all the PCOS features metabolically and/or phenotypically. Therefore, there is no clear consensus on the use of appropriate animal model and selection of the most appropriate PCOS-inducing agent. To that end, we have established a Swiss albino mouse model of PCOS based on 3 weeks of daily treatment with letrozole (50 μg/day; intraperitoneal) and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA, 6 mg/100 g body weight; subcutaneous) in 5-week-old female mice fed on normal or high-fat diet (HFD). Mice were regularly assessed for body weight, blood glucose, and estrous cycle. Three weeks after drug administration, mice were sacrificed and assessed for blood-based metabolic parameters as well as ovarian function. Our results indicate that DHEA combined with HFD produces changes mimicking those of clinical PCOS, including elevated serum testosterone and luteinizing hormone, dyslipidemia, poor ovarian microenvironment, and development of multiple ovarian cysts, recapitulating cardinal features of PCOS. In comparison, normal diet and/or letrozole produced fewer features of PCOS. The data from the experimental models presented here can improve our understanding of PCOS, a growing concern in women's health.

Abstract
Objectives: To differentiate between the classic (A/B) from the nonclassic (C/D) phenotypes of the polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) with sonography. Materials & Methods: Retrospective analysis was performed upon 72 female patients with PCOS. All patients underwent transvaginal sonography. The patients were classified into classic and nonclassic phenotypes of PCOS. Image analysis was performed for the ovarian volume, follicle counts, follicle size, and endometrial plate thickness. Results: There were significant differences in the ovarian volume ( P = .001), follicle counts ( P = .001), follicle size ( P = .001), and endometrial plate thickness ( P = .001) between classic and nonclassic phenotypes of PCOS. The threshold value for ovarian volume, follicle count, follicle size, and endometrial plate thickness used to differentiate classic from nonclassic phenotypes were 12.5, 10.5, 5.25, and 5.75, respectively, with an area under the curve of 0.79, 0.82, 0.83, 0.77 and an accuracy of 75%, 73.6%, 79.2%, and 68.1%, respectively. The serum testosterone level and the body mass index were significantly higher in patients with classic than nonclassic phenotypes of PCOS ( P = .001, .04), respectively. Conclusion: Sonography findings can differentiate classic from nonclassic phenotypes of PCOS.

Abstract
Recently, a growing body of evidence has suggested that abnormal ovarian angiogenesis, secondary to the imbalance between various angiogenic markers, is involved in the pathogenesis of PCOS, and this has led to the use of various interventions (such as Diane-35) to restore the normal ovarian angiogenesis. Therefore, we conducted the current investigation to determine the role of such markers (endothelial growth factor (VEGF), endostatin (ES), and thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1)) in the pathogenesis of PCOS along with the associated changes in ovarian blood flow in patients with PCOS compared to healthy controls, both before and after a course of oral contraception. A total of 381 patients with PCOS and 98 healthy females of childbearing age were recruited from July 2014 to June 2017 at the Reproductive Center of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University. The serum levels of VEGF, ES, and TSP-1 were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, while ovarian perfusion was measured by the pulsatility index (PI) and resistance index (RI) by using transvaginal color Doppler ultrasound. Repeated analyses were carried out after 3 months of Diane-35 treatment. Post-treatment serum levels of luteinizing hormone (LH)/follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) ratio of patients with PCOS decreased significantly (P <0.05). The RI values of most PCOS patients increased after treatment (P<0.05), while PI was significantly increased in all patients (P<0.05). However, variable changes in the serum levels of TSP-1, VEGF, and ES after treatment were observed. Serum VEGF levels showed a negative correlation with serum LH/FSH ratio, T concentration, and ES (P <0.05), while ES levels were negatively correlated with serum T concentrations only (P<0.05). The markers of angiogenesis (VEGF, ES, and TSP-1) were expressed differently among PCOS patients, who also responded differently to the same course of Diane-35 treatment. This field still warrants further investigation to reach a more definitive conclusion.

Abstract
To assess the practicality of 3-D power Doppler angiography (3-D-CPA) for local drug perfusion dosage guidance of refractory infantile hemangioma (IH) treatment, 47 cases (48 lesions) of refractory IH were selected for local bleomycin infusion (once a month). Ultrasound was performed before treatment and 1 and 2 months after the first treatment. The 3-D volume (V) change of infantile hemangiomas and the ratio of bleomycin injection to 3-D V before treatment were calculated, and statistical analysis was performed. One month after percutaneous local drug perfusion, 37 participants (77.08%) exhibited significant improvement; controlled growth was observed on six lesions (12.5%); and treatment of the remaining 5 lesions (10.42%) failed to suppress growth. The calculated tolerable and effective dose of bleomycin for refractory IH was 0.34 ± 0.03 mL/cm3; the corresponding 3-D V decreased approximately 70.27 ± 6.27%. Three-dimensional CPA can provide abundant information on internal lesions. In particular, 3-D-CPA can quantitatively assess changes in lesion volume and guide the effective and rational use of interventional drugs.

Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder among reproductive-age women. Patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) often suffer from metabolic syndrome, atherosclerosis, ischemic heart disease, and extrahepatic tumors, conferring a lower survival than the general population; therefore it is crucial to study the association between NAFLD and PCOS since it remains poorly understood. Insulin resistance (IR) plays a central role in the pathogenesis of NAFLD and PCOS; also, hyperandrogenism enhances IR in these patients. IR, present in the NAFLD-PCOS association could decrease the hepatic production of sex hormone-binding globulin through a possible regulation mediated by hepatocyte nuclear factor 4 alpha. On the other hand, apoptotic processes initiated by androgens actively contribute to the progression of NAFLD. Considering the association between the two conditions, the screening of women with PCOS for the presence of NAFLD appears reasonable. The pathophysiological mechanisms of PCOS-NAFLD association and the initial approach will be reviewed here.
