New Approaches in Metaheuristic to Classify Medical Data Using Artificial Neural Network

Automatic detection and classification of lung cancer CT scans based on deep learning and ebola optimization search algorithm

Recently, research has shown an increased spread of non-communicable diseases such as cancer. Lung cancer diagnosis and detection has become one of the biggest obstacles in recent years. Early lung cancer diagnosis and detection would reliably promote safety and the survival of many lives globally. The precise classification of lung cancer using medical images will help physicians select suitable therapy to reduce cancer mortality. Much work has been carried out in lung cancer detection using CNN. However, lung cancer prediction still becomes difficult due to the multifaceted designs in the CT scan. Moreover, CNN models have challenges that affect their performance, including choosing the optimal architecture, selecting suitable model parameters, and picking the best values for weights and biases. To address the problem of selecting optimal weight and bias combination required for classification of lung cancer in CT images, this study proposes a hybrid metaheuristic and CNN algorithm. We first designed a CNN architecture and then computed the solution vector of the model. The resulting solution vector was passed to the Ebola optimization search algorithm (EOSA) to select the best combination of weights and bias to train the CNN model to handle the classification problem. After thoroughly training the EOSA-CNN hybrid model, we obtained the optimal configuration, which yielded good performance. Experimentation with the publicly accessible Iraq-Oncology Teaching Hospital / National Center for Cancer Diseases (IQ-OTH/NCCD) lung cancer dataset showed that the EOSA metaheuristic algorithm yielded a classification accuracy of 0.9321. Similarly, the performance comparisons of EOSA-CNN with other methods, namely, GA-CNN, LCBO-CNN, MVO-CNN, SBO-CNN, WOA-CNN, and the classical CNN, were also computed and presented. The result showed that EOSA-CNN achieved a specificity of 0.7941, 0.97951, 0.9328, and sensitivity of 0.9038, 0.13333, and 0.9071 for normal, benign, and malignant cases, respectively. This confirms that the hybrid algorithm provides a good solution for the classification of lung cancer.

Improving Time Series Prediction With Feature Selection Using a Velocity-Enhanced Whale Optimization Algorithm

The nonlinearity and uncertain behavior of many recent financial applications is increasing rapidly. Thus, it is important to resolve the rapid growth of time-variant problems with the help of artificial intelligence methods. In this paper, a hybridized method is used to predict four types of financial datasets: absenteeism at work, blog feedback data, currency exchange rate, and energy consumption. The prediction accuracy is improved with feature selection techniques. During the use of feature selection methods, only related features are carefully chosen and then fed to the neural network algorithm for prediction. In this research, the previous year data is taken for training and recent year data is taken for testing. Finally, the results of the velocity enhanced whale optimization algorithm (VEWOA) is compared with other methods like local linear wavelet neural network (LLWNN) and local linear radial basis functional neural network (LLRBFNN).

Obesity Mass Monitoring in Medical Big Data Based on High-Order Simulated Annealing Neural Network Algorithm

With the rapid development of information technology, hospital informatization has become the general trend. In this context, disease monitoring based on medical big data has been proposed and has aroused widespread concern. In order to overcome the shortcomings of the BP neural network, such as slow convergence speed and easy to fall into local extremum, simulated annealing algorithm is used to optimize the BP neural network and high-order simulated annealing neural network algorithm is constructed. After screening the potential target indicators using the random forest algorithm, based on medical big data, the experiment uses high-order simulated annealing neural network algorithm to establish the obesity monitoring model to realize obesity monitoring and prevention. The results show that the training times of the SA-BP neural network are 1480 times lower than those of the BP neural network, and the mean square error of the SA-BP neural network is 3.43 times lower than that of the BP neural network. The MAE of the SA-BP neural network is 1.81 times lower than that of the BP neural network, and the average output error of the obesity monitoring model is about 2.35 at each temperature. After training, the average accuracy of the obesity monitoring model was 98.7%. The above results show that the obesity monitoring model based on medical big data can effectively complete the monitoring of obesity and has a certain contribution to the diagnosis, treatment, and early warning of obesity.

AN IMPROVED GREY WOLF OPTIMIZATION-BASED LEARNING OF ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK FOR MEDICAL DATA CLASSIFICATION

Grey wolf optimization (GWO) is a recent and popular swarm-based metaheuristic approach. It has been used in numerous fields such as numerical optimization, engineering problems, and machine learning. The different variants of GWO have been developed in the last 5 years for solving optimization problems in diverse fields. Like other metaheuristic algorithms, GWO also suffers from local optima and slow convergence problems, resulted in degraded performance. An adequate equilibrium among exploration and exploitation is a key factor to the success of meta-heuristic algorithms especially for optimization task. In this paper, a new variant of GWO, called inertia motivated GWO (IMGWO) is proposed. The aim of IMGWO is to establish better balance between exploration and exploitation. Traditionally, artificial neural network (ANN) with backpropagation (BP) depends on initial values and in turn, attains poor convergence. The metaheuristic approaches are better alternative instead of BP. The proposed IMGWO is used to train the ANN to prove its competency in terms of prediction. The proposed IMGWO-ANN is used for medical diagnosis task. Some benchmark medical datasets including heart disease, breast cancer, hepatitis, and parkinson's diseases are used for assessing the performance of IMGWO-ANN. The performance measures are described in terms of mean squared errors (MSEs), classification accuracies, sensitivities, specificities, the area under the curve (AUC), and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. It is found that IMGWO outperforms than three popular metaheuristic approaches including GWO, genetic algorithm (GA), and particle swarm optimization (PSO). Results confirmed the potency of IMGWO as a viable learning technique for an ANN.
