Spiritual Health in Iranian Patients With Cardiovascular Diseases: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the spiritual health status of Iranian patients with cardiovascular diseases. A literature search was conducted in national (MagIran and Scientific Information Database) and international (Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science/ISI) databases from inception to December 2021. A random-effects model was used to estimate the pooled score of spiritual health. Based on the eligibility criteria, 22 articles were selected for the final analysis. The pooled score of spiritual health in Iranian patients with cardiovascular diseases was 61% (95% confidence interval: 54%-68%). In subgroup analysis, the pooled score in patients with heart failure was higher than other patients (67% vs. 58%). Publication bias was not significant (p = 0.554). Results indicated that the spiritual health of Iranian patients with cardiovascular diseases was moderate. Therefore, it is recommended that proper training be provided to these patients to enhance their adaptation to the complications of cardiovascular diseases.

Relationship Between Religious Orientation and Death Anxiety in Elderly Individuals

This study aims to identify the relationship between religious orientation and death anxiety in elderly individuals aged 65 and over. This study is cross sectional in nature. It was conducted with the participation of 250 individuals aged 65 and over who were registered in Family Health Centers in the city center located in the eastern part of Turkey between February and June, 2018. The participants' Religious Orientation Scale mean score was found to be 53.03 ± 9.91, and Religious Orientation Scale mean score was found to be significantly higher in married people, in graduates of high school, in those who had social security, and in those who lived with their spouse (p < 0.01). Death Anxiety Scale mean score was found to be 7.73 ± 2.28, and Death Anxiety Scale mean score was significantly higher in those who lived with their children (p < 0.05). No statistically significant relationship was found between Death Anxiety and Religious Orientation. Elderly individuals were found to have high religious orientation and death anxiety. It is recommended that the factors that increase death anxiety should be identified, interventions should be provided to decrease these factors, and elderly people should be provided with social services for their religious needs.

Comparison of Death Anxiety, Self-Esteem, and Personality Traits of the People Who Live in Turkey and Denmark

The aim of this research is to investigate death anxiety of the people who live in Turkey and Denmark and have the same cultural background. Cross-cultural studies about death anxiety have been conducted within two different cultures. The goal is to fill the gap in the literature. In this context, participants' self-esteem and personality traits were also investigated. Death Anxiety Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and The Big Five Inventory were used in this study. Seventy-four people from Turkey and 67 from Denmark participated in this research. According to the results, people who live in Turkey have more death anxiety. There is negative correlation between self-esteem and death anxiety. Neuroticism of the personality traits has positive correlation with death anxiety.

Predictors of death anxiety among patients with heart disease

Objective: This research examines whether or not socio-demographic factors and hope predict death anxiety among patients with heart disease.Materials and Methods: Our sample consisted of 500 respondents who were hospitalized in a medical institution in Iran. Data were collected using the Templer Death Anxiety Scale (TDAS) and the Herth Hope Index (HHI).Results: The results of current study indicated that higher economic status, having one's main source of income from friends, increased age, increased religious belief, and increased hope were associated with lower death anxiety.Conclusion: These results highlight that improving hope, and religiosity among cardiac patients may be an effective means by which to reduce their death anxiety.
