Synthesis of spiro[indoline-3,4′-pyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole] and spiro[indoline-3,4′-pyrano[2,3-c]chromene] derivatives using silica-bonded ionic liquids as a recyclable catalyst in aqueous medium

Synthesis of mono- and bis-spirooxindole derivatives "on water" using double salt of aluminum sulfate-sulfuric acid as a reusable catalyst

The preparation of double salt of aluminum sulfate-sulfuric acid (Al4(SO4)6·(H2SO4)·24H2O) by the reaction of aluminum sulfate and sulfuric acid in water is described. Aluminum sulfate-sulfuric acid is characterized via some spectroscopic and microscopic techniques such as infrared spectroscopy (IR), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) which corroborated the structure of the double salt. This double salt is soluble in water and insoluble in organic solvents. It was employed as a new catalyst for the synthesis of spirooxindole compounds on water with good to excellent yields. The double salt could be recycled and reused without appreciable loss of activity.

Preparation of GO/SiO2/PEA as a new solid base catalyst for the green synthesis of some spirooxindole derivatives

Efficient and green one pot multi component synthesis of some spirooxindole derivatives in the presence of graphene oxide functionalized with 2-(1-piperazinyl) ethylamine (GO/SiO₂/PEA) as a solid base catalyst was studied. GO/SiO₂/PEA has been obtained through a two step reaction and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Green reaction conditions, short reaction times, reusable catalyst and a high to excellent yield of products are some of the advantageous of the presented method.

Catalyst-free four-component domino synthetic approach toward versatile multicyclic spirooxindole pyran scaffolds

A new versatile strategy involving a sequential four-component reaction of the nitroketene dithioacetals, alkylamine/benzylamine, isatin and various enolizable active methylene structures (pyrazolone, barbituric acid, 1,3-indandione and 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone) as precursors under mild and catalyst-free conditions results in the synthesis of new functionalized spirooxindole pyrans named spiro[indoline-3,4′-pyrano[2,3-c]pyrazol], spiro[indoline-3,5′-pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidine], spiro[indeno[1,2-b]pyran-4,3′-indoline] and spiro[benzo[g]chromene-4,3′-indoline] in moderate to good yields. The use of various active methylene compounds affords a range of skeletally distinct spirooxindole-based heterocycles with potential biological properties. The present strategy has many advantages, such as convenient one-pot operation, simple workup procedures and straightforward isolation without using tedious purification steps such as column chromatography, progress under catalyst-free condition and high molecular diversity.
