Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are among the most impactful illnesses globally. Currently, the available therapeutic option has several side effects, including hypotension, bradycardia, arrhythmia, and alteration in different ion concentrations. Recently, bioactive compounds from natural sources, including plants, microorganisms, and marine creatures, have gained a lot of interest. Marine sources serve as reservoirs for new bioactive metabolites with various pharmacological activities. The marine-derived compound such as omega-3 acid ethyl esters, xyloketal B, asperlin, and saringosterol showed promising results in several CVDs. The present review focuses on marine-derived compounds' cardioprotective potential for hypertension, ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction, and atherosclerosis. In addition to therapeutic alternatives, the current use of marine-derived components, the future trajectory, and restrictions are also reviewed.

Abstract
Application of Zn fertilizers to agricultural field is a simple and effective way for farmers to manage Zn deficient stress in soils to avoid yield lose. Although a synergistic effect of Zn on N transformation in soil has been reported, the mechanism is not fully understood yet. In this study, we planted rice in soils with different combinations of Zn and N supply, and analyzed the plant growth and N uptake, the N transformation, microbial communities, enzyme activities and gene expression levels in rhizosphere soil to reveal the underlying mechanism. Results showed that Zn application promoted the rice growth and N uptake, increased the soil alkali-hydrolyzed N and NH4+, but decreased NO3- and inhibited NH3 volatilization from the rhizosphere soil under optimal N condition. Zn supply significantly increased the relative abundances of Sphingomonas, Gaiella, subgroup_6, and Gemmatimonas, but decreased nitrosifying bacteria Ellin6067; while increased saprophytic fungi Schizothecium and Mortierella, but decreased pathogenic fungi Gaeumannomyces, Acremonium, Curvularia, and Fusarium in the rhizosphere soil under optimal N condition. Meanwhile, Zn application elevated the activities of protease, cellulase and dehydrogenase, and up-regulated the expression levels of napA, nirS, cnorB, and qnorB genes involved in the denitrification process in rice rhizosphere soil under optimal N condition. These results indicated Zn application could facilitate the soil N transformation and improved its availability by modifying both bacterial and fungal communities, and altering the soil enzyme activities and functional gene expression levels, ultimately promoted the N uptake and biomass of rice plant. However, this synergistic effect of Zn on rice growth, N uptake and soil N transformation strongly depended on the external N conditions, as no significant changes were observed under high N condition. Our results indicated that Zn co-fertilized with appropriate application of N is a useful strategy to improve the N bioavailability in rice rhizosphere soil and enhance the N uptake in rice plant.

Abstract
Due to global industrialization in recent decades, large areas have been threatened by heavy metal contamination. Research about the impact of excessive Zn on N and P transformation in farmland has received little attention, and its mechanism is still not completely known. In this study, we planted rice in soils with toxic levels of Zn, and analyzed the plant growth and nutrient uptake, the N and P transformation, enzyme activities and microbial communities in rhizosphere soil to reveal the underlying mechanism. Results showed high levels of Zn severely repressed the plant growth and uptake of N and P, but improved the N availability and promoted the conversion of organic P into inorganic forms in rice rhizosphere soil. Moreover, high levels of Zn significantly elevated the activities of hydrolases including urease, protease, acid phosphatase, sucrase and cellulose, and dehydrogenase, as well as the abundances of Flavisolibacter, Sphingomonas, Gemmatirosa, and subgroup_6, which contributed to the mineralization of organic matter in soil. Additionally, toxic level of Zn repressed the nitrifying process by decreasing the abundance of nitrosifying bacteria Ellin6067 and promoted denitrification by increasing the abundance of Noviherbaspirillum, which resulted in decreased NO3− concentration in rice rhizosphere soil under VHZn condition.

Abstract
In this study, 18 standard amino acids were tested as a single nitrogen source on biomass, total lipid, total fatty acid (TFA) production, and yield of γ-linolenic acid (GLA) in Rhizomucor pusillus AUMC 11616.A and Mucor circinelloides AUMC 6696.A isolated from unusual habitats. Grown for 4 days at 28°C, shaking at 150 rpm, the maximum fungal biomass for AUMC 6696.A was 14.6 ± 0.2 g/L with arginine and 13.68 ± 0.1 g/L with asparagine, when these amino acids were used as single nitrogen sources, while AUMC 11616.A maximum biomass was 10.73 ± 0.8 g/L with glycine and 9.44 ± 0.6 g/L with valine. These were significantly higher than the ammonium nitrate control (p < 0.05). The highest levels of TFA were achieved with glycine for AUMC 11616.A, 26.2 ± 0.8% w/w of cell dry weight, and glutamic acid for AUMC 6696.A, 23.1 ± 1.3%. The highest GLA yield was seen with proline for AUMC 11616.A, 13.4 ± 0.6% w/w of TFA, and tryptophan for AUMC 6696.A, 12.8 ± 0.3%, which were 38% and 25% higher than the ammonium tartrate control. The effects of environmental factors such as temperature, pH, fermentation time, and agitation speed on biomass, total lipids, TFA, and GLA concentration of the target strains have also been investigated. Our results demonstrated that nitrogen assimilation through amino acid metabolism, as well as the use of glucose as a carbon source and abiotic factors, are integral to increasing the oleaginicity of tested strains. Few studies have addressed the role of amino acids in fermentation media, and this study sheds light on R. pusillus and M. circinelloides as promising candidates for the potential applications of amino acids as nitrogen sources in the production of lipids.

Abstract
Microbes have gained a lot of attention for their potential in producing polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). PUFAs are gaining scientific interest due to their important health-promoting effects on higher organisms including humans. The current sources of PUFAs (animal and plant) have associated limitations that have led to increased interest in microbial PUFAs as most reliable alternative source. The focus is on increasing the product value of existing oleaginous microbes or discovering new microbes by implementing new biotechnological strategies in order to compete with other sources. The multidisciplinary approaches, including metabolic engineering, high-throughput screening, tapping new microbial sources, genome-mining as well as co-culturing and elicitation for the production of PUFAs, have been considered and discussed in this review. The usage of agro-industrial wastes as alternative low-cost substrates in fermentation for high-value single-cell oil production has also been discussed. Multidisciplinary approaches combined with new technologies may help to uncover new microbial PUFA sources that may have nutraceutical and biotechnological importance.

Abstract
Lipids are a biorefinery platform to prepare fuel, food and health products. They are traditionally obtained from plants, but those of microbial origin allow for a better use of land and C resources, among other benefits. Several (thermo)chemical and biochemical strategies are used for the conversion of C contained in lignocellulosic biomass into lipids. In particular, pyrolysis can process virtually any biomass and is easy to scale up. Products offer cost-effective, renewable C in the form of readily fermentable molecules and other upgradable intermediates. Although the production of microbial lipids has been studied for 30 years, their incorporation into biorefineries was only described a few years ago. As pyrolysis becomes a profitable technology to depolymerize lignocellulosic biomass into assimilable C, the number of investigations on it raises significantly. This article describes the challenges and opportunities resulting from the combination of lignocellulosic biomass pyrolysis and lipid biosynthesis with oleaginous microorganisms. First, this work presents the basics of the individual processes, and then it shows state-of-the-art processes for the preparation of microbial lipids from biomass pyrolysis products. Advanced knowledge on separation techniques, structure analysis, and fermentability is detailed for each biomass pyrolysis fraction. Finally, the microbial fatty acid platform comprising biofuel, human food and animal feed products, and others, is presented. Literature shows that the microbial lipid production from anhydrosugars, like levoglucosan, and short-chain organic acids, like acetic acid, is straightforward. Indeed, processes achieving nearly theoretical yields form the latter have been described. Some authors have shown that lipid biosynthesis from different lignin sources is biochemically feasible. However, it still imposes major challenges regarding strain performance. No report on the fermentation of pyrolytic lignin is yet available. Research on the microbial uptake of pyrolytic humins remains vacant. Microorganisms that make use of methane show promising results at the proof-of-concept level. Overall, despite some issues need to be tackled, it is now possible to conceive new versatile biorefinery models by combining lignocellulosic biomass pyrolysis products and robust oleaginous microbial cell factories.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The transport of citrate from the mitochondria to the cytoplasm is essential during lipid accumulation. This study aimed to explore the role of mitochondrial citrate-oxoglutarate carrier in lipid accumulation in the oleaginous fungus Mortierella alpina. RESULTS Homologous MaYHM (the gene encoding the mitochondrial citrate-oxoglutarate carrier) was overexpressed in M. alpina. The fatty acid content of MaYHM-overexpressing recombinant strains was increased by up to 30% compared with the control. Moreover, the intracellular α-ketoglutarate level in recombinant strains was increased by 2.2 fold, together with a 23-35% decrease in NAD+-isocitrate dehydrogenase activity compared with the control. The overexpression of MaYHM altered the metabolic flux in the glutamate dehydrogenase shunt and 4-aminobutyric acid shunt during metabolic reprogramming, supplying more carbon to synthesize fatty acids. CONCLUSIONS Overexpression of MaYHM resulted in more efflux of citrate from mitochondria to the cytoplasm and enhanced lipid accumulation. These findings provide new perspectives for the improvement of industrial lipid production in M. alpina.
