Multi-View Fusion Network-Based Gesture Recognition Using sEMG Data

sEMG(surface electromyography) signals have been widely used in rehabilitation medicine in the past decades because of their non-invasive, convenient and informative features, especially in human action recognition, which has developed rapidly. However, the research on sparse EMG in multi-view fusion has made less progress compared to high-density EMG signals, and for the problem of how to enrich sparse EMG feature information, a method that can effectively reduce the information loss of feature signals in the channel dimension is needed. In this article, a novel IMSE (Inception-MaxPooling-Squeeze- Excitation) network module is proposed to reduce the loss of feature information during deep learning. Then, multiple feature encoders are constructed to enrich the information of sparse sEMG feature maps based on the multi-core parallel processing method in multi-view fusion networks, while SwT (Swin Transformer) is used as the classification backbone network. By comparing the feature fusion effects of different decision layers of the multi-view fusion network, it is experimentally obtained that the fusion of decision layers can better improve the classification performance of the network. In NinaPro DB1, the proposed network achieves 93.96% average accuracy in gesture action classification with the feature maps obtained in 300ms time window, and the maximum variation range of action recognition rate of individuals is less than 11.2%. The results show that the proposed framework of multi-view learning plays a good role in reducing individuality differences and augmenting channel feature information, which provides a certain reference for non-dense biosignal pattern recognition.

Comparative Study of sEMG Feature Evaluation Methods Based on the Hand Gesture Classification Performance

Effective feature extraction and selection are crucial for the accurate classification and prediction of hand gestures based on electromyographic signals. In this paper, we systematically compare six filter and wrapper feature evaluation methods and investigate their respective impacts on the accuracy of gesture recognition. The investigation is based on several benchmark datasets and one real hand gesture dataset, including 15 hand force exercises collected from 14 healthy subjects using eight commercial sEMG sensors. A total of 37 time- and frequency-domain features were extracted from each sEMG channel. The benchmark dataset revealed that the minimum Redundancy Maximum Relevance (mRMR) feature evaluation method had the poorest performance, resulting in a decrease in classification accuracy. However, the RFE method demonstrated the potential to enhance classification accuracy across most of the datasets. It selected a feature subset comprising 65 features, which led to an accuracy of 97.14%. The Mutual Information (MI) method selected 200 features to reach an accuracy of 97.38%. The Feature Importance (FI) method reached a higher accuracy of 97.62% but selected 140 features. Further investigations have shown that selecting 65 and 75 features with the RFE methods led to an identical accuracy of 97.14%. A thorough examination of the selected features revealed the potential for three additional features from three specific sensors to enhance the classification accuracy to 97.38%. These results highlight the significance of employing an appropriate feature selection method to significantly reduce the number of necessary features while maintaining classification accuracy. They also underscore the necessity for further analysis and refinement to achieve optimal solutions.

Decentralized robust interaction control of modular robot manipulators via harmonic drive compliance model-based human motion intention identification

In this paper, a human motion intention estimation-based decentralized robust interaction control method of modular robot manipulators (MRMs) is proposed under the situation of physical human–robot interaction (pHRI). Different from traditional interaction control scheme that depends on the biological signal and centralized control method, the decentralized robust interaction control is implemented that using only position measurements of each joint module in this investigation. Based on the harmonic drive compliance model, a novel torque-sensorless human motion intention estimation method is developed, which utilizes only the information of local dynamic position measurements. On this basis, the decentralized robust interaction control scheme is presented to achieve high performance of position tracking and ensure the security of interaction to create the ’safety’ interaction environment. The uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB) of the tracking error is proved by the Lyapunov theory. Finally, pHRI experiments confirm the effectiveness and advancement of the proposed method.

A hybrid ant colony algorithm based on multiple strategies for the vehicle routing problem with time windows

In this paper, we propose a vehicle routing problem with time windows (TWVRP). In this problem, we consider a hard time constraint that the fleet can only serve customers within a specific time window. To solve this problem, a hybrid ant colony (HACO) algorithm is proposed based on ant colony algorithm and mutation operation. The HACO algorithm proposed has three innovations: the first is to update pheromones with a new method; the second is the introduction of adaptive parameters; and the third is to add the mutation operation. A famous Solomon instance is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. Experimental results show that HACO algorithm is effective against solving the problem of vehicle routing with time windows. Besides, the proposed algorithm also has practical implications for vehicle routing problem and the results show that it is applicable and effective in practical problems.
