Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have established a correlation between the pathogenesis of oxidative stress and sarcopenia. The Oxidative Balance Score (OBS) is an integrated measure that reflects the overall balance of antioxidants and pro-oxidants in dietary components and lifestyle. However, there are limited reports on the association between OBS and lean mass and the impact of protein intake on the association between OBS and lean mass. METHODS Using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2011 to 2018, multivariate linear and logistic regression analyses were conducted to explore the associations between OBS and outcomes. The findings were then illustrated through fitted smoothing curves and threshold effect analyses. RESULTS This study included 2,441 participants, demonstrating that higher OBS is significantly associated with an increased ratio of appendicular lean mass to body mass index. Key inflection points at OBS 31 mark pronounced changes in these associations, with age and protein intake notably affecting the association. The effect of OBS on lean mass varies among populations with high and low protein intake. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that OBS is significantly and positively associated with lean mass. A high protein intake of more than 84.5 g/day may enhance the role of OBS in influencing muscle health to improve muscle outcomes.

Abstract
Background Current epidemiological evidence points to an association between micronutrient (MN) intake and sarcopenia, but studies have focused on single MN, and no combined effects on MNs have been reported. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between different MN intake patterns and sarcopenia and skeletal muscle mass. Methods We performed a population-based cross-sectional study, with a total of 5,256 U.S. adults aged 20-59 years, and we collected total daily MN intake and appendicular skeletal muscle mass measured by Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA). Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to obtain nutrient patterns and principal component scores based on the intake of 14 MNs, and logistic regression analysis was used to assess the effects of single MN and MN intake patterns on sarcopenia and muscle mass. Results We defined three MN intake patterns by PCA: (1) adherence to VitB-mineral, high intake of vitamin B and minerals; (2) adherence to VitAD-Ca-VB12, high intake of vitamin A, vitamin D, calcium and vitamin B12; and (3) adherence to Antioxidant Vit, high intake of antioxidant vitamins A, C, E, and K. These three nutrient patterns explained 73.26% of the variance of the population. A negative association was observed between most single MN intakes and sarcopenia, and after adjusting for confounders, adherence to the highest tertile of the three nutrient patterns was associated with a lower risk of sarcopenia and relatively higher skeletal muscle mass compared to the lowest adherence. In subgroup analysis, MN intake patterns were significantly correlated with sarcopenia in middle-aged females. Conclusion Nutritional patterns based on MN intake were significantly related to sarcopenia, indicating that MNs interact with each other while exerting their individual functions, and that MN dietary patterns may provide promising strategies for preventing the loss of muscle mass, with further prospective studies warranted in the future.

Abstract
Whether changes in health behaviors can improve successful aging has not been well explored. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of health-related behaviors and changes on successful aging in Indonesian older adults. Data were from the fourth and fifth waves of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS), the participants were aged 60 years and older and who completed both waves (n = 1289). Successful aging indicators were defined as no chronic diseases, no physical function difficulties, no depressive symptoms, intact cognitive function, with social support, and with social participation. Health-related behaviors focused on smoking, physical activities, and protein intake. A logistic regression analysis was conducted. The overall successful aging rate in 2007 was 23.6%, and it had decreased to 5.6% by 2014. There were gender differences in smoking, physical activities, and behavioral changes, including promoting increased physical activity, no smoking/smoking cessation, and adequate protein intake by older adults. Quitting smoking, performing medium physical activity, and increasing protein intake were protective factors for successful aging, but the effects of behavioral changes differed by gender. Health-related behaviors and changes may impact successful aging among older adults. A healthy lifestyle is suggested to be adopted as early as possible in one's life course.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Frailty is a multidimensional condition common in older adults, where reduced resiliency leads to adverse outcomes. It has strong links with malnutrition and sarcopenia, mostly through muscle health. This review explores the links between nutrition and frailty from different perspectives. RECENT FINDINGS Studies linking malnutrition and frailty show that most malnourished persons are frail, and malnutrition risk is increased in frail people. Energy and protein intake and some micronutrients are linked to frailty. Research on the role of microbiota and specific amino acids is increasing. Recent literature on the prevention of frailty with nutrition confirms that an appropriate intake of proteins, vitamin D and other nutrients is needed, but this information is still not in the public domain. Interventions to reverse frailty and sarcopenia should include exercise and nutrition interventions, usually with a multidomain approach including other elements. SUMMARY Public health recommendations to eat an optimal diet with the right amount of energy and proteins should be moved to the public domain. Whenever frailty is present, nutrition has a role in reverting it and avoiding adverse outcomes, but high-quality research is still needed in this area.
