Large Tricuspid Valve Myxoma in an Asymptomatic Patient with Uterine Myoma: An Uncommon Case

Tricuspid valve myxomas are very uncommon tumors that could be found after the occurrence of pulmonary thromboembolism, symptomatic tricuspid obstruction, and right-sided heart failure. Herein, we describe a 42-year-old woman evaluated for an abdominal mass. In preoperative consultation, a tricuspid valve mass was detected in echocardiography. She underwent the removal of a benign uterine myoma and a myxoma of the tricuspid valve. Tricuspid valve myxomas constitute a scarce diagnosis. They could be asymptomatic, occurring in unusual locations and in association with benign tumors in other organs. Our patient was asymptomatic, underscoring the significance of the early diagnosis of this type of tumor to prevent further catastrophic events.

Endometrial Adenocarcinoma with Concomitant Left Atrial Myxoma

Background

Atrial myxomas are the most common primary heart tumors and predominantly considered to be benign lesions. Case Study: We report a case involving a 77-year-old woman who presented with a pelvic mass. She was found to have a primary endometrial cancer and primary lung cancer with concomitant metastatic adrenal gland and mesenteric lesions. Her prior medical history also included an untreated 4.0 × 2.0-cm left atrial myxoma which was identified on CT scan during the workup of her pelvic mass.

Results

A clinical decision was made to proceed with surgery for the pelvic mass with a subsequent recommendation for left atrial mass resection. Currently, the patient is scheduled to begin chemotherapy for primary lung cancer.

Conclusion

The reported incidence of uterine cancer and a concurrent atrial myxoma is very rare. Consequently, the manner and timing in which treatment should be provided is imprecise. In the present case, the risk for cardiac complications was high, but given the presence of a partial bowel obstruction and the need to diagnose the primary site of her metastatic malignancy, the decision was made to proceed with exploratory abdominal surgery.

Primary leiomyosarcoma of the left atrium

A 69-year-old woman with symptoms of congestive heart failure had a left atrial leiomyosarcoma, an extremely rare cardiac tumor, which obstructed the mitral valve and pulmonary veins. Surgical resection was performed, but no other adjuvant therapy was administered because the patient refused it. Recurrence of the tumor occurred soon after surgery and the patient died 81 days postoperatively.

Acute vascular embolus resulting from metastatic endocardial involvement with synovial sarcoma: report of a case and review of the literature

A rare case of metastatic soft tissue sarcoma (STS) involving the endocardium of the left ventricle of the heart is described. A 57-year-old man with a previously resected synovial sarcoma of the anterior abdominal wall presented 5 years later with an acute ischaemic arm resulting from tumour embolus. The treatment and outcome of the patient are outlined. Metastatic STS cardiac involvement and management of this complication are reviewed.
