Abstract
The domino anionic fragmentation of 2-nitrophenyl-1,3-cyclohexanediones containing an electrophilic appendage such as aldehyde and epoxide is disclosed. This reaction, initiated by a series of nucleophiles, involves the generation of an intermediate hydroxylate followed by the regioselective formation and fragmentation of an intermediate lactolate into enolate. This strategy, devoid of any protecting group, enlarges the initial ring and provides an original access to decorated 9-membered lactones with a fused indole unit.

Abstract
![]()
The
[3,5,5,7] tetracyclic skeleton of echinopines has been stereoselectively
accessed through a gold(I)-catalyzed alkoxycyclization of cyclopropyl-tethered
1,6-enynes. The key bicyclo[4.2.1]nonane core of the enyne precursors
was readily assembled by means of a Co-catalyzed [6 + 2] cycloaddition.
Furthermore, the attempted alkoxycyclization of 1,5-enyne substrates
revealed an uncovered cyclopropyl rearrangement that gives rise to
[3,6,5,7] tetracyclic structures.

Abstract
In the presence of Co2(CO)8 and CO, cis-epoxyalkynes bearing a tether olefin undergo a tandem [5 + 1]/[2 + 2 + 1]-cycloaddition to give tricyclic delta-lactones efficiently in a one-pot operation. The reaction mechanism is proposed to involve a cobalt-coordinated cyclic allene species.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed condensation of benzene-1,2-diol with various propargylic carbonates afforded regio- and stereoselectively 2,3-dihydro-2-ylidene-1,4-benzodioxins. The reaction is suggested to proceed by the formation of a (sigma-allenyl)palladium complex, followed by the intermolecular attack of the phenoxide ion on this complex to generate a new (sigma-allyl)palladium complex in equilibrium with the corresponding (eta(3)-allyl)palladium complex. Intramolecular attack of the phenoxide ion afforded the corresponding benzodioxan compound. This last attack occurs predominantly at the more electrophilic end of the (eta(3)-allyl)palladium intermediate. The Z- or E-stereochemistry of the products was established by (1)H NMR and proton NOE measurements and also by X-ray analysis on an example. The Z-stereochemistry generally observed is in agreement with the formation of this (eta(3)-allyl)palladium intermediate. However, in the case of tertiary propargylic carbonates, the E-stereochemistry generally observed could be explained by an intramolecular attack of the phenoxide ion on the intermediate (sigma-allyl)palladium complex, in slow equilibrium with the (eta(3)-allyl)palladium complex.
