Abstract
Establishing scalable nanomaterials synthesis protocols remains a bottleneck towards their commercialisation and, thus, a topic of intense research and development. Herein, we present an automated machine-learning microfluidic platform capable of synthesising optically active nanomaterials from target spectra originating from prior experience, theorised or published. Implementing unsupervised Bayesian optimisation with Gaussian processes reduces the optimisation time and the need for prior knowledge to initiate the process. Using PTFE tubing and connectors enables facile change in reactor design. Ultimately, the platform substitutes the labour-intensive trial-and-error synthesis and provides a pathway to standardisation and volume synthesis, slowing down the translation and commercialisation of high-quality nanomaterials. As a proof-of-concept, Ag nanoplates and Prussian-blue nanoparticle protocols were optimised and validated for volume production.

Abstract
Oxidative stress that damages cellular components affects various organs including the brain. It is thus believed to play an active role in neurodegenerative diseases, wherein the intrinsic antioxidant enzymes metabolize toxic intermediates. For therapeutic purpose, instead of antioxidant enzymes, small organic compounds as antioxidants may be more effective. Here, reducing power and electrochemical behavior of some flavanols, flavanonols, flavones, flavonols and O-methylated flavonols have been estimated and confirmed by the calculated bond dissociation energy. Compared to other classes, flavonols exhibited increased reducing power that decreased with methylation of the oxygen atom in the B-ring. Gossypetin emerged as the most effective of these flavonols. Generally, compounds with two hydroxyl groups in two consecutive positions of the phenyl ring and an enolic group in the C-ring with more preference for the hydroxyl group in the ortho position with respect to each other in the catechol moiety showed major activity. 5 position of the A-ring showed the least effect on the activity. The present understanding therefore may be applied for identifying compounds to be used as scaffold for designing potent antioxidants.

Abstract
An advanced independent component analysis algorithm (MILCA) is applied for simultaneous chemometric determination of fat- and water-soluble vitamins in complex mixtures. The analysis is based on the decomposition of spectra of multicomponent mixtures in the UV region. The key features of the proposed method are simplicity, accuracy, and reliability. Comparisons between the new algorithm and other established methods (MCR-ALS, SIMPLISMA, other ICA techniques) were made. Our results indicate that in most cases, MILCA is comparable or even outperforms other chemometrics methods taken for comparisons. The influence of different factors (abundance of components, noise, step of spectral scan, and scan speed) on decomposition performance has been investigated. The optimal conditions for spectroscopic registration have been identified. The proposed method was used for analysis of model mixtures and real objects (multivitamin drugs, food additives, and energy drinks). The resolved concentrations match well with the declared amounts and the results of reference methods.

Abstract
Gold bead electrodes were modified with submonolayers of 3-mercaptopropionic acid or 2-aminoethanethiol and further reacted with poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers (generation 4.0 and 3.5, respectively) to obtain films on which Prussian Blue (PB) was later absorbed to afford mixed and stable electrocatalytic layers. Experiments carried out with these novel materials not only showed an improved surface coverage of PB on the dendrimer modified electrodes as compared to PB modified gold electrodes prepared under acidic conditions, but also showed an increased stability at neutral pH values for one of the dendrimer containing substrates where the PB film on a bare gold electrode is simply not formed. The dendrimer modified electrodes were also tested as electrocatalytic substrates for the electroxidation of L(+)-ascorbic acid (AA), and it was found that their sensitivity as well as the corresponding detection limits were improved as compared to the voltammetric response of a Au-PB modified electrode. On the basis of UV-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy and electrochemical experiments, it is suggested that the PB molecules are located within the dendritic structure of the surface attached PAMAM dendrimers.

Abstract
A highly sensitive spectrofluorimetric method is proposed for the determination of trace amount of ascorbic acid using a new indication. The method is based on the inhibition of ascorbic acid on the oxidation of pyronine Y (PRY) by nitrite. The detection limit for ascorbic acid is 0.012 microg ml(-1), the linear range of the determination is 0.02-0.36 microg ml(-1). Analytical parameters, such as reagent concentration, pH, reaction temperature and time, were optimized. The relative standard deviations of eleven replication determinations of 0.12 and 0.24 microg ml(-1) ascorbic acid were 1.4 and 0.72%, respectively. This method has been used to determine ascorbic acid in pharmaceuticals, vegetables, fruits and soft drink with satisfactory results.

Abstract
A new, improved sensor for the electrocatalytic determination of ascorbate has been developed that has both a low applied operating potential and a low detection limit. The sensor was constructed by depositing copper hexacyanoferrate film either electrochemically or chemically onto carbon film electrode, and it was then characterised by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Chemically deposited films were shown to be the best for ascorbate determination and were used as an amperometric sensor at +0.05 V versus SCE to determine ascorbate in wines and juice. The linear range extended to 5 mM with a limit of detection of 2.1 microM, the sensor was stable for more than four months, and it could be used continuously for at least 20 days.
