Abstract
A mild and efficient method for the copper-catalyzed diamination of alkenes is described. In this reaction, o-benzoylhydroxylamine serves as an electrophilic nitrogen source for the regioselective formation of C-N bonds. This transformation provides a novel strategy for synthesizing all four isomeric 2,3-disubstituted azaindoline families and offers a wide substrate scope.

Abstract
A mild, palladium-catalyzed domino Heck-cyclization/alkoxylation sequence of aryl halide tethered allenamides is described, providing regiodivergent indole and indoline derivatives controlled by the N-protecting group. This room temperature reaction provided a functionalizable olefinic moiety with broad substrate scope. Preliminary mechanistic studies support the rearrangement of an indoline-derived intermediate to indoles with the N-acetyl allenamides forming free (NH) indoles.

Abstract
Palladium has proven to be effective in catalyzing the (hetero)annulation of C[double bond, length as m-dash]C bonds with ambiphilic organo(pseudo)halides. Through the employment of appropriate ambiphilic coupling partners, efficient annulation of a variety of allenes, 1,3-dienes, strained alkenes, styrenes, and other C[double bond, length as m-dash]C bond variants can be achieved to provide direct access to numerous useful hetero- and carbocyclic scaffolds. In this Feature Article, we summarize palladium-catalyzed (hetero)annulation methods reported since 2005 (spanning just over 15 years) and discuss outstanding challenges in this area of study.

to 92% yields and up to 94% ee). DFT calculations suggest a new Pd(0)-driven

Abstract
We developed a conceptually new synthetic strategy which exploits the stereochemical information of labile acyclic N,O-acetals. The key to this strategy, chemo- and stereoselective synthesis of N,O-acetals, was achieved by the Pd-catalyzed addition of sulfonyl-protected homopropargylic amines to alkoxyallene. The N,O-acetals generated in this way were combined with Au-catalyzed cycloisomerization to give an access to 2,6-disubstituted piperidines with stereochemical flexibility.

Abstract
Annelated 2-amino pyridines such as pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridines, [1,8]naphthyridines, and pyrido[2,3-b]azepines can be synthesized in moderate to good yields in a consecutive one-pot three-component process by a coupling-isomerization-enamine-addition-cyclocondensation sequence of an electron-poor (hetero)aryl halide, a terminal propargyl N-tosylamine, and an N,S-ketene acetal. After the coupling-isomerization sequence, a Diels-Alder reaction with inverse electron demand of the intermediate enimine and the N,S-ketene acetal and subsequent aromatization furnish annelated 2-amino pyridines 4 that were unambiguously characterized by numerous X-ray structure analyses. These heterocycles are highly fluorescent and partially pH sensitive, and their electronic structure was studied with spectroscopic and computational methods.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] A number of approaches for the synthesis of the 1H-indol-2-yl-1H-quinolin-2-one ring system found in the potent and selective KDR kinase inhibitor 1 are described. The preparation and reaction of trimethylsilylnitrobenzene 26 with 2-methoxy-3-quinolinecarboxaldehyde 28 afforded alcohol 30, which was the key intermediate for the preparation of the target compounds. Conversion of alcohol 30 to either nitroketone 36 or nitrostyrene 45 set the stage for reductive cyclization and the formation of indole 25. The quinolin-2-one functionality was unmasked in the last step to provide compound 1 in 56-60% overall yield from readily available starting materials.

Abstract
We have developed a highly regioselective synthesis of heterocycles via palladium-catalyzed annulation reaction of heteroatom-substituted allenes. Various aryl halides were reacted and one regioisomer was observed exclusively in all reactions. In addition, subsequent functionalizations of annulated products were carried out using alkyl metal reagents, and the introduction of alkyl moieties was accomplished.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] Compounds containing a pyridine nucleus fused to a saturated nitrogen-containing ring, including 7-azaoxindoles, 7-azaindolines, tetrahydro[1,8]naphthyridines, and tetrahydro-5H-pyrido[2,3-b]azepin-8-ones, were prepared in good yield starting from various 2,6-dichloropyridines. The method hinges on a free-radical xanthate-mediated cyclization or intermolecular addition/cyclization sequence for the construction of the new fused rings.

Abstract
Regio- and stereoselective palladium-catalyzed reactions of allene-substituted 1,3-dienes 1 in acetic acid at room temperature lead to cyclization with formation of a carbon-carbon bond between the middle carbon of the allene and the terminal carbon of the 1,3-diene. Two different types of reactions, both that constitute 1,4-carboacetoxylations of the 1,3-diene, have been developed. In one of the reactions, Pd(II) catalyzes the oxidation of 1 to bicyclic compounds 2, and in the other, Pd(0) catalyzes the transformation of 1 to bicyclic compounds 3. The products 2 are useful for further synthetic transformations and undergo Diels-Alder reactions with dienophiles to give polycyclic ring systems.

Abstract
Whereas palladium-catalyzed reaction of N-arylsulfonyl-alpha-amino allenes with an aryl iodide (4 equiv) in the presence of potassium carbonate (4 equiv) in DMF at around 70 degrees C affords the corresponding 3-pyrroline derivatives, the reaction in refluxing 1,4-dioxane under otherwise identical conditions yields exclusively or most predominantly the corresponding 2-alkenylaziridines bearing an aryl group on the double bond. Similarly, N-arylsulfonyl-beta-amino allenes can be also cyclized into the corresponding alkenylazetidines bearing a 2,4-cis-configuration under palladium-catalyzed cyclization conditions in DMF.
