Polyphenylene Sulfide-Based Membranes: Recent Progress and Future Perspectives

As a special engineering plastic, polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) can also be used to prepare membranes for membrane separation processes, adsorption, and catalytic and battery separators because of its unique properties, such as corrosion resistance, and chemical and thermal stability. Nowadays, many researchers have developed various types of PPS membranes, such as the PPS flat membrane, PPS microfiber membrane and PPS hollow fiber membrane, and have even achieved special functional modifications. In this review, the synthesis and modification of PPS resin, the formation of PPS membrane and the research progress of functional modification methods are systematically introduced, and the future perspective of PPS membrane is discussed.

Reversible and Irreversible Color Change during Photo and Thermal Degradation of PolyphenyleneSulfide Composite

The effect of the light spectral composition and temperature on the change of color characteristics and reflection spectra during the irradiation of polyphenylene sulfide reinforced by short glass fibers in the SUNTEST apparatus was analyzed. The scales of reversible color change upon successive exposure to total radiation corresponding to the sunlight spectrum and to visible light wereevaluated and the possible mechanisms for the observed effects are discussed. The features of the color change upon visible light irradiation of previously thermally aged samples wereconsidered. Possible causes for deviation from the Arrhenius law during thermal aging of the composite are discussed. It wasdemonstrated that even with a significant change in color, the physicomechanical and electrotechnical characteristics of the composite only changedslightly or remained virtually at the same high level.

Higher UV-shielding ability and lower photocatalytic activity of TiO2@SiO2/APTES and its excellent performance in enhancing the photostability of poly(p-phenylene sulfide)

U–TiO₂ is successfully coated with SiO₂ and subsequently well modified by APTES, and a core–shell structure exists on TiO₂@SiO₂ and TiO₂@SiO₂/APTES, which greatly reduces aggregation of the TiO₂ nanoparticles.
