Abstract
Atopic dermatitis (also known as atopic eczema) is a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disease commonly seen in children, with increasing prevalence over the past few decades in many countries including Taiwan. The management of pediatric atopic dermatitis can be challenging, particularly as treatment options are expanding with the emergence of novel systemic and topical anti-inflammatory medications in recent years. The Taiwan Academy of Pediatric Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (TAPAAI) has developed the Taiwan guidelines for the diagnosis and management of pediatric atopic dermatitis, which provides a concise overview of its epidemiology, clinical characteristics and diagnosis, mechanisms, treatments, and education. The contents of this guideline integrate the principles of recent national and international guidelines for the diagnosis and management of atopic dermatitis, latest research findings, and expert opinions of experienced pediatric allergy specialists in Taiwan. For practical purposes, this guideline presents simplified and easy-to-use diagnostic criteria and severity grading for pediatric atopic dermatitis. A stepwise treatment algorithm is also proposed to expedite rational, cost-effective, and evidence-based management strategy. This guideline, developed based on current best evidence and real-world experience of pediatric allergy experts in Taiwan, is intended to facilitate practical, up-to-date management of pediatric atopic dermatitis among physicians.

Abstract
Glucocorticoids are major therapeutic agents highly used in the medical field. Topical glucocorticoids have biologic activities which make them useful in dermatology – anti-inflammatory, vasoconstrictive, immune suppressive and antiproliferative, in treating inflammatory skin disorders (allergic contact eczema, atopic hand eczema, nummular eczema, psoriasis vulgaris or toxic-irritative eczema). Unfortunately, the beneficial effects of topical glucocorticoids are shadowed by their potential for adverse effects – muscle or skin atrophy, striae distensae, rubeosis or acne. Skin atrophy is one of the most prevalent side-effects, with changes found in all skin compartments – marked hypoplasia, elasticity loss with tearing, increased fragility, telangiectasia, bruising, cutaneous transparency, or a dysfunctional skin barrier. The structure and function of the epidermis is altered even in the short-term topical glucocorticoid treatment; it affects stratum corneum components, subsequently affecting skin barrier integrity. The dermis is altered by directly inhibiting fibroblast proliferation, reducing mast cell numbers, and loss of support; there is depletion of mucopolysaccharides, elastin fibers, matrix metalloproteases and inhibition of collagen synthesis. Atrophogenic changes can be found also in hair follicles, sebaceous glands or dermal adipose tissue. Attention should be paid to topical glucocorticoid treatment prescription, to the beneficial/adverse effects ratio of the chosen agent, and studies should be oriented on the development of newer, innovative targeted (gene or receptor) therapies.

Abstract
Corticoids are actives widely used in the treatment of skin diseases. This work aims to study the penetration of 3 corticoids (betamethasone, clobetasol, and flurandrenolide), their relationship with their Log D values and the effects of the vehicles. The 3 compounds were applied on a Franz-type diffusion cell in propylene glycol solution and their respective commercial creams and ointments. The active amounts found in the stratum corneum, epidermal, and dermal layers of the skin were investigated. Their diffusions were greatly affected by the formulation; moreover higher amounts of substance in the epidermis and dermis were detected in ointments than in creams. The enhancement effect of propylene glycol was also observed. The differences between the 3 substances could be related to their lipophilicity, molecular structure, and molecular weight. The more hydrophobic compounds (clobetasol and betamethasone) are present in higher amounts in the epidermis and dermis, while the hydrophilic compound (flurandrenolide) is mostly present in the receptor fluid.

Abstract
The evidence to date regarding corticosteroid exposure in pregnancy and select pregnancy and birth outcomes is limited and inconsistent. The authors provide a narrative review of published literature summarizing the findings for oral clefts, preterm birth, birth weight, preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes mellitus. Whenever possible, the results are limited to oral or systemic administration with a further focus on use in autoimmune disease. Although previous studies of corticosteroid exposure in pregnancy reported an increased risk of oral clefts in the offspring, more recent studies have not replicated these findings.

Abstract
Mometasone furoate, a potent glucocorticoid (class III) with a favorable benefit/risk ratio, has emerged as a standard medication for the treatment of inflammatory skin disorders. The purpose of the investigation presented here was to determine the noninferiority of a topical mometasone formulation, a light cream (O/W 60/40 emulsion) with mometasone furoate 0.1% (water content of 33%) versus marketed comparators. Using the vasoconstrictor assay, a strong blanching effect of the new cream (called Mometasone cream) comparable to that of a mometasone comparator, a fatty cream with mometasone furoate 0.1%, could be demonstrated. Thus, the topical bioavailability of the active ingredient mometasone furoate (0.1%) was regarded to be similar for Mometasone cream and the mometasone comparator. Using the psoriasis plaque test, a strong antipsoriatic effect comparable to that of the mometasone comparator was found for Mometasone cream after 12 days of occlusive treatment. A nearly identical reduction in the mean infiltrate thickness and similar mean AUC values were noted with both formulations confirmed by clinical assessment data. The noninferiority of Mometasone cream to its active comparator with respect to the AUC of change to baseline in infiltrate thickness was demonstrated. Both medications were well tolerated. Overall, Mometasone cream and the mometasone comparator showed similar efficacy and tolerability. Mometasone cream, in addition to its high potency and good tolerability, provides the properties of a light cream, which might make this new medication particularly suitable for application on acutely inflamed and sensitive skin.

Abstract
Fluticasone propionate (FP), a medium potent glucocorticoid (class III) of carbothioate nature with a favourable benefit/risk ratio, has emerged as a standard medication for the topical treatment of inflammatory skin disorders, in particular atopic dermatitis (AD). FP is available as a 0.05% cream and a 0.005% ointment formulation. The glucocorticoid is characterized by high lipophilicity, high affinity binding to the glucocorticoid receptor and a rapid hepatic biotransformation. Though skin blanching following topical application of FP surpasses that given with glucocorticoids of medium strength, clinical trials show a low potential of FP for local and systemic adverse effects. Even in paediatric patients with AD as well as in difficult-to-treat areas like face, eyelids and intertriginous areas, FP proved to be both effective and safe. Thus, the therapeutic effects of FP clearly outweigh the unwanted effects. Correspondingly, a therapeutic index of 2.0 can be attributed to this glucocorticoid. In this respect, topical FP does not differ from other topical glucocorticoids with increased benefit-to-risk ratio, e.g. prednicarbate, methylprednisolone aceponate and mometasone furoate. However, randomized controlled trials do not only support conventional intervention but also innovative maintenance treatment.

Abstract
Corticosteroids are widely used for the treatment of inflammatory skin disorders. However, systemic and local adverse drug reactions, especially skin atrophy, are potential complications that limit their use. Several attempts have been made to increase the safety of topical corticosteroid treatment, including new application schedules, special vehicles and new agents. In particular, the group of hydrocortisone and prednisolone double esters, with prednicarbate as the first and most often prescribed representative, seem to be equipotent alternatives to the gold standard betamethasone 17-valerate with respect to anti-inflammatory activity. At the same time, these new agents induce less skin atrophy, which may result from a unique skin metabolism and a specific influence on the cytokine network in the epidermis and dermis. On the basis of these effects, a new approach to in vitro quantification of the benefit-risk ratio has been developed. As already suggested by investigations in human volunteers, the benefit-risk ratio of the new compounds appears to be increased. Therefore, recent research has focused on drugs that selectively modulate cytokine release.

Abstract
Although introduced more than 50 years ago, topical glucocorticoids are still the first line therapy for many inflammatory skin disorders such as atopic eczema, contact dermatitis and many others. Recently, significant improvements have been made to optimize the ratio of desired to unwanted effects. While with early compounds such as triamcinolone, topical side effects such as skin atrophy and telangiectasias can be observed rather frequently, newer drugs such as methylprednisolone aceponate or mometasone furoate have a significantly improved therapeutic index. The present study compared these two modern topical glucocorticoids, which possess the highest therapeutic index currently found, in terms of nuclear receptor selectivity in vitro and induction of the most important local side effects (skin atrophy and telangiectasias) in a relevant rodent model in vivo. We demonstrate that methylprednisolone aceponate displays higher specificity in nuclear receptor binding compared with mometasone furoate. Methylprednisolone aceponate was also markedly superior in terms of minimizing induction of skin atrophy or telangiectasias when compared with mometasone furoate. Based on these observations, methylprednisolone aceponate is expected to have a greater therapeutic index as compared with mometasone furoate, at least in the test systems used here. The degree to which this observation may translate into a clinical setting requires confirmation.

Abstract
There are remarkable differences in the diagnostic and therapeutic management of atopic dermatitis practiced by dermatologists and pediatricians in different countries. Therefore, the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology nominated expert teams who were given the task of finding a consensus to serve as a guideline for clinical practice in Europe as well as in North America. The consensus report is part of the PRACTALL initiative, which is endorsed by both academies.

Abstract
Glucocorticoids (GCs) are highly effective for the topical treatment of inflammatory skin diseases. Their long-term use, however, is often accompanied by severe and partially irreversible adverse effects, with atrophy being the most prominent limitation. Progress in the understanding of GC-mediated molecular action as well as some advances in technologies to determine the atrophogenic potential of compounds has been made recently. It is likely that the detailed mechanisms of GC-induced skin atrophy will be discovered and in vitro models for the reliable prediction of atrophy will be established in the foreseeable future. This knowledge will not only facilitate safety profiling of established drugs but will also foster further drug discovery by improving compound characterization processes. New insights into GC modes of action will guide optimization strategies aiming at novel GC receptor ligands with improved effect/side effect profile.

Abstract
Dermatophytoses, commonly known as ringworm or tinea, represent superficial fungal infections caused by dermatophytes, which are among the most common infections encountered in medicine. The use of corticosteroid-containing combinations in dermatophyte infections that are usually treated with topical medications is still a much-debated issue. The addition of a corticosteroid to local antifungal therapy may be of value in reducing local inflammatory reaction and thus carries the theoretical advantage of rapid symptom relief in acute dermatophyte infections associated with heavy inflammation. However, the use of such combinations requires caution as they have some potential risks, especially with long-term use under occlusive conditions. Corticosteroid-induced cutaneous adverse effects have been reported primarily in pediatric patients due to inappropriate application of these preparations on diaper areas. Additionally, the corticosteroid component may interfere with the therapeutic actions of the antifungal agent, or fungal growth may accelerate because of decreased local immunologic host reaction, such that underlying infection may persist, and dermatophytes may even acquire the ability to invade deeper tissues. Analysis of the literature documenting clinical study data and adverse reactions related to combination therapy, drew the following conclusions: (i) combination products containing a low potency nonfluorinated corticosteroid may initially be used for symptomatic inflamed lesions of tinea pedis, tinea corporis, and tinea cruris, in otherwise healthy adults with good compliance; (ii) therapy should be substituted by a pure antifungal agent once symptoms are relieved, and should never exceed 2 weeks for tinea cruris and 4 weeks for tinea pedis/corporis; and (iii) contraindications for the use of these combinations include application on diaper or other occluded areas and facial lesions, as well as in children <12 years of age and in immunosuppressed patients for any reason.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Atopic dermatitis(AD) with head and neck involvement is common and therapeutically challenging. METHODS Efficacy and safety data specific to treatment of head/neck regions with tacrolimus ointment (Protopic) from three double-blind, randomized, vehicle-controlled studies are reported. A total of 631 adult and 352 pediatric patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis applied the vehicle, 0.03% or 0.1% tacrolimus ointment twice daily to affected areas for up to 12 weeks. RESULTS Significant improvements from baseline to end of treatment for signs of atopic dermatitis (erythema, edema, excoriation, oozing, scaling, and lichenification) were noted for head/neck and non-head/neck areas treated with either 0.03% or 0.1% tacrolimus ointment (p<0.001). Within each treatment group, the overall 12-week adjusted incidence rate of application site adverse events was similar for both head/neck and non-head/neck areas. The incidence of common adverse events such as pruritus, "skin burning", erythema, infection, and skin tingling in head/neck areas was comparable to that observed in non-head/neck areas within each treatment group. The overall prevalence of application site adverse events decreased rapidly during the first few days of treatment. CONCLUSION Tacrolimus ointment is a safe and effective treatment for atopic dermatitis on the head and neck.

Abstract
Ninety-seven Perth general practitioners completed a self-administered postal questionnaire that aimed to examine their caseload and management practices for childhood atopic dermatitis (AD). General practitioners saw a median of two new cases and three follow-up consultations per month for childhood AD, and referred a median of 10% of cases to a specialist, usually a dermatologist. Most (77%) recommended emollients for all patients, but only 21% specifically reported advising their use immediately after bathing. Sixty-one percent would use topical corticosteroids in all or most patients, but cream preparations were more commonly used (58%) than ointments (40%). Atrophy was rated as a common or very common side-effect of topical corticosteroid therapy by 23% of general practitioners. Twenty-six percent reported using oral corticosteroids in children with AD. Dietary changes would be recommended in at least a few AD patients by 79% of general practitioners, and 31% would recommend a change from cow's milk to soy in the absence of a history of dietary triggers. We conclude that general practitioners appeared generally well informed about AD management. However, dermatologists, through targeted education, may be in a position to help general practitioners further improve outcomes for these patients.

Abstract
Dermatological therapy of children differs considerably from treatment of adults and poses a special challenge. Dermatological diseases often form idiosyncratic entities with a prognosis different from adults and must be treated appropriately. Consideration should also be given to the fact that children occasionally experience adverse reactions to drugs, which are not observed in adults. A selection of dermatological diseases and typical drug reactions are presented to illustrate the special features and differences between pediatric dermatotherapy and treatment of adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vehicle-controlled studies have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of tacrolimus ointment for patients with atopic dermatitis. OBJECTIVE This study was undertaken to compare 0.03% and 0.1% tacrolimus ointment with 0.1% hydrocortisone-17-butyrate ointment, a midpotent to potent topical corticosteroid, in the treatment of adult patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis. METHODS Patients applied ointment twice daily to all affected areas for 3 weeks in this multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group study. The primary endpoint was the modified eczema area and severity index (mEASI) mean area under the curve as a percentage of baseline. RESULTS Five hundred seventy patients were randomized and received treatment. Discontinuations included 22 of 193 patients from the 0.03% tacrolimus group, 22 of 191 patients from the 0.1% tacrolimus group, and 17 of 186 patients from the hydrocortisone butyrate group. The median mEASI mean area under the curve as a percentage of baseline was 47.0%, 36.5%, and 36.1% for patients who received 0.03% tacrolimus, 0.1% tacrolimus, and 0.1% hydrocortisone butyrate, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between 0.1% tacrolimus and 0.1% hydrocortisone butyrate; however, the lower improvement in mEASI for 0.03% tacrolimus was statistically significant when compared with 0.1% tacrolimus (P <.001) or hydrocortisone butyrate (P =.002). Skin burning and pruritus at the application site showed a higher incidence in the tacrolimus treatment groups than in the hydrocortisone butyrate group (P <.05). Laboratory parameters showed no treatment differences and no marked changes over time. CONCLUSIONS The efficacy of 0.1% tacrolimus ointment was similar to that of 0.1% hydrocortisone butyrate ointment and was lower for 0.03% tacrolimus ointment. No serious safety concerns were identified.

Abstract
UNLABELLED New developments in the topical therapy and phototherapy of psoriasis have greatly improved our ability to safely and effectively treat this debilitating disease. Topical corticosteroids remain the most commonly prescribed agents for psoriasis, but they are frequently prescribed with other agents. Investigations of corticosteroids claiming an improved benefit/risk ratio have yielded promising results, but more work is needed. Use of anthralin and tar has declined with the availability of the noncorticosteroids calcipotriene and tazarotene. Other experimental topical therapies are in various stages of development. Broadband ultraviolet B (UVB) remains the most commonly used phototherapy light source, but many patients are being treated with a new form of ultraviolet light, narrowband UVB. Although PUVA remains one of the most effective psoriasis treatments, its use is declining because of its association with cutaneous malignancies. New radiation sources such as lasers have been added to our armamentarium of available therapies and even newer light source-based treatments are being examined. LEARNING OBJECTIVE At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants should be familiar with the varying topical treatments for psoriasis as well as the different modalities of phototherapy. Participants should also have a better understanding of side effects associated with each treatment, which should help in determining options for therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, relapsing condition affecting up to 14% of the population in Western countries. Topical corticosteroids are the mainstay of treatment. Triamcinolone acetonide, a corticoid of intermediate potency, has proven useful in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. AIM To evaluate the effectiveness of a triamcinolone acetonide-laurocapram combination in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. METHODS One hundred and fifty patients were enrolled in a three-arm, parallel group, controlled clinical trial evaluating the effectiveness of a triamcinolone acetonide (0.05%) and laurocapram combination, applied twice daily for 2 weeks, in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Fifty patients received triamcinolone acetonide-laurocapram (TNX), 50 triamcinolone acetonide (TN), and 50 a vehicle control formulation (AN). Response to treatment was evaluated by change in disease severity at 6 h, at 3, 8, and 15 days after the start of treatment, and by the global change in disease status. RESULTS TNX effected a significantly higher degree of improvement in the signs and symptoms of atopic dermatitis (erythema, induration, and pruritus) and a greater overall improvement in disease status compared with treatment with TN or AN. Treatment-associated side-effects were local reactions, occurring in three, two, and six patients in the TNX, TN, and AN groups, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The results suggest that the incorporation of laurocapram in the formulation enhances the effectiveness of triamcinolone acetonide, without compromising its safety profile.

Abstract
The safety and efficacy of 0.03% and 0.1% tacrolimus ointment for the treatment of atopic dermatitis were evaluated in a 12-week, randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled study of 351 children 2 to 15 years of age with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. The mean age of patients was 6.1 years. A total of 61.5% of patients had severe atopic dermatitis at baseline. The mean percentage of body surface area affected was 47.7%, and 83.5% of patients were affected on the head and/or neck. Significantly more patients (P<.001) achieved clinical improvement of 90% or better with 0.03% or 0.1% tacrolimus ointment compared with vehicle. Significant improvements in the signs and symptoms of atopic dermatitis, percent body surface area affected, and the patient's assessment of pruritus were also observed early in treatment and were maintained throughout the study. Adverse events with a statistically significantly greater incidence in the 0.03% tacrolimus ointment treatment group compared with vehicle were limited to the sensation of skin burning, pruritus, varicella, and vesiculobullous rash ("blisters"). Varicella and vesiculobullous rash occurred at a low incidence (<5%). No adverse event occurred at a statistically higher incidence in the 0.1% tacrolimus ointment-treated group compared with vehicle. Tacrolimus ointment was equally safe for younger (2-6 years) and older (7-15 years) children. Both tacrolimus ointment concentrations (0.03% and 0.1%) were safe and significantly more effective than vehicle for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in children.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE A double-blind, single-site, split-face clinical study was organized and carried out in order to evaluate the efficacy, tolerability, and safety of a glycolic acid containing scalp lotion in conjunction with a betamethasone (as the 17-valerate) scalp application against conditions of psoriasis. BACKGROUND Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) have been proposed as therapeutic modalities against skin exfoliative conditions such as ichthyosis, xeroderma, and psoriasis. AHAs are hereby clinically investigated as therapeutic modalities adjuvant to corticosteroids in order to diminish systemic and topical adverse side-effects most frequently associated with use of the latter. METHODS Twenty patients suffering from scalp psoriasis and other psoriatic conditions were included in a double-blind, split-face clinical study, using combinations of a 10% (w/w) glycolic acid scalp lotion, placebo lotion (excipients only), and a 0.1% (w/w) betamethasone scalp application, applied twice daily without any bandage for a period of 8 weeks. Clinical assessments were carried out by highly experienced physician evaluations based on a four-grade scale, prior to treatment and after 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks. RESULTS Improvement was observed in all cases included in the study following treatment with the 10% glycolic acid lotion. However, when equal parts of the 0.1% betamethasone lotion were combined, most of the treated sites were healed. Moreover, the duration of treatment required for healing was in this case reduced to approximately half of that needed when the glycolic acid or the betamethasone lotions were used separately for treatment. CONCLUSIONS The present clinical study demonstrates for the first time that the effective and well tolerated therapeutic efficacy of glycolic acid scalp lotions is enhanced when used in conjunction with a 0.1% betamethasone scalp application against scalp psoriasis. This potential offers the practising dermatologist with novel treatment modes against severe skin conditions by combining topical corticosteroid with exfoliative agent therapy.

Abstract
Although there is no cure for atopic dermatitis, it can be successfully controlled in most patients. Topical corticosteroids are usually effective, but some patients with recalcitrant disease require phototherapy or use of more potent immunosuppressive agents. Improved understanding of the immunologic basis of atopic dermatitis may provide opportunities for the development of new therapies.

Abstract
The effectiveness of an emollient as an adjunct to topical corticosteroid therapy for the treatment of mild to moderate atopic dermatitis was studied for 3 weeks in 25 children 3 to 15 years of age in comparison with corticosteroid therapy alone. The adjunctive regimen of a once-daily application each of hydrocortisone 2.5% cream and of a water-in-oil cream was equivalent in efficacy to the comparative regimen of twice-daily applications of hydrocortisone 2.5% cream. Both treatment regimens elicited significant improvement in skin condition by day 7 ( p < 0.005) and further significant improvement by day 14 (p < 0.005). No significant differences between the two treatment regimens were observed in the rates of improvement (p > 0.545) or in the reductions in mean lesion size (p > 0.98). No differences were observed in parental evaluations, except for ease of application where a slight preference was expressed for the hydrocortisone 2.5% cream preparation (p < 0.038). We conclude that emollient adjunctive therapy offers a steroid-sparing alternative to topical corticosteroids alone in the treatment of mild to moderate atopic dermatitis.

Abstract
Fluticasone propionate (FP) 0.05% (CutivateTM) cream is a novel corticosteroid used for the treatment of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. To date there are no published data concerning its effect on cutaneous atrophy. This randomized, double-blind study of 40 volunteer subjects was performed to investigate the kinetics of skin thinning induced by topical 0.05% FP cream vs. placebo after once-daily application for 2-8 weeks. The results of this study showed no significant effect on the skin thickness of subjects after 8 weeks' treatment with 0.05% FP cream compared with placebo.

Abstract
Topical corticosteroids are used extensively to treat inflammatory skin diseases. Long-term use, however, may be associated with adverse effects such as skin atrophy. New steroids have been developed with the objective of increasing efficacy and reducing the incidence of adverse effects. Mometasone furoate (MMF) is one of these new derivatives. The aim of our study was to compare the effects of MMF and betamethasone-17-valerate (BM-17-valerate) on collagen synthesis in human skin in vivo. Fifteen healthy male volunteers applied MMF, BM-17-valerate and vehicle for 1 week to different areas of abdominal skin. Suction blisters were raised on these areas, and a control site, and procollagen propeptide (PICP, PINP, PIIINP) levels in the suction blister fluid were measured by radioimmunoassay. Skin thickness was measured ultrasonically by Dermascan A at the end of the treatment period. The levels of the three propeptides in suction blister fluid were reduced to similar extent by MMF and BM-17-valerate. The 1-week treatment period had no detectable influence on skin thickness. We conclude that MMF and BM-17-valerate decrease collagen synthesis to the same extent in human skin in vivo.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The therapy for skin diseases with topical glucocorticoids is limited by their local and systemic side effects. A glucocorticoid with an improved benefit-to-risk ratio is desirable. OBJECTIVE A new topical corticoid, methylprednisolone aceponate (MPA) 0.1% ointment, was compared with the same formulation of mometasone furoate. METHODS The two ointments were compared with respect to suppression of UVB light-induced erythema (n = 20) and with respect to atrophogenicity and appearance of telangiectasia (n = 20) in two double-blind trials with intraindividual comparisons in healthy volunteers. In a third trial, serum cortisol levels were measured in volunteers receiving extensive (60% of body surface) cutaneous application of MPA (n = 10) or mometasone furoate (n = 11). RESULTS MPA and mometasone furoate were equally effective in suppressing UVB light-induced erythema. Atrophogenicity, as well as the incidence and severity of telangiectasia, were significantly more pronounced with mometasone furoate than with MPA. Both ointments decreased serum cortisol levels and did not differ significantly in this respect. However, the incidence of serum cortisol level suppression was higher in the mometasone furoate group than in the MPA group.
