Abstract
A low metamorphosis rate of amphibian larvae, commonly known as tadpoles, limits the farming production of bullfrogs (Lithobates catesbeiana). This study aimed to examine the effects of processed thyroid powder as a feed additive on tadpole metamorphosis, lipid metabolism, and gut microbiota. Five groups of tadpoles were fed with diets containing 0 g/kg (TH0), 1.5 g/kg (TH1.5), 3 g/kg (TH3), 4.5 g/kg (TH4.5), and 6 g/kg (TH6) thyroid powder for 70 days. The results showed that TH increased the average weight of tadpoles during metamorphosis, with the TH6 group having the highest values. The TH4.5 group had the highest metamorphosis rate (p < 0.05). Biochemical tests and Oil Red O staining showed that the lipid (triglyceride) content in the liver decreased after TH supplementation, especially at doses higher than 1.5 g/kg. RT-qPCR revealed that TH at doses higher than 4.5 g/kg significantly up-regulated the transcriptional expression of the pparα, accb, fas, fadd6, acadl, and lcat genes, which are related to lipid metabolism (p < 0.05). These results showed that TH seems to simultaneously promote the synthesis and decomposition of lipid and fatty acids, but ultimately show a decrease in lipids. As for the gut microbiota, it is noteworthy that Verrucomicrobia increased significantly in the TH4.5 and TH6 groups, and the Akkermansia (classified as Verrucomicrobia) was the corresponding genus, which is related to lipid metabolism. Specifically, the metabolic pathways of the gut microbiota were mainly enriched in metabolic-related functions (such as lipid metabolism), and there were significant differences in metabolic and immune pathways between the TH4.5 and TH0 groups (p < 0.05). In summary, TH may enhance lipid metabolism by modulating the gut microbiota (especially Akkermansia), thereby promoting the growth of tadpoles. Consequently, a supplementation of 4.5 g/kg or 6 g/kg of TH is recommended for promoting the metamorphosis and growth of tadpoles.

Abstract
The effect of curcumin (Cur) on cognitive impairment and the possible role of brain tissue oxidative stress, nitric oxide (NO) levels, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) were investigated in juvenile hypothyroid rats. The juvenile rats (21 days old) were allocated into the following groups: (1) control; (2) hypothyroid (0.05% propylthiouracil (PTU) in drinking water); (3-5) hypothyroid-Cur 50, 100, and 150, which in these groups 50, 100, or 150 mg/kg, Cur was orally administered by gavage during 6 weeks. In the hypothyroid rats, the time elapsed and the traveled distance to locate the hidden platform in the learning trials of Morris water maze (MWM) increased, and on the probe day, the amount of time spent in the target quadrant and the distance traveled in there was decreased. Hypothyroidism also decreased the latency and increased the time spent in the darkroom of the passive avoidance (PA) test. Compared with the hypothyroid group, Cur enhanced the performance of the rats in both MWM and PA tests. In addition, Cur reduced malondialdehyde concentration and NO metabolites; however, it increased thiol content as well as the activity of catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase enzymes in both the cortex and hippocampus. Cur also increased hippocampal synthesis of BDNF in hypothyroid rats. The beneficial effects of Cur cognitive function in juvenile hypothyroid rats might be attributed to its protective effect against oxidative stress and potentiation of BDNF production.

Abstract
Diabetes, a chronic group of medical disorders characterized byhyperglycemia, has become a global pandemic. Some hormones may influence the course and outcome of diabetes, especially if they potentiate the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). There is a close relationship between thyroid disorders and diabetes. The main objective of this investigation was to find out whether peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) are more prone to DNA damage by triiodothyronine (T3) (0.1, 1 and 10 μM) at various stages of progression through diabetes (obese, prediabetics, and type 2 diabetes mellitus—T2DM persons). In addition, some biochemical parameters of oxidative stress (catalase-CAT, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances—TBARS) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were evaluated. PBMCs from prediabetic and diabetic patients exhibited increased sensitivity for T3 regarding elevated level of DNA damage, inhibition of catalase, and increase of TBARS and LDH. PBMCs from obese patients reacted in the same manner, except for DNA damage. The results of this study should contribute to a better understanding of the role of thyroid hormones in the progression of T2DM.

Abstract
The oxidative effects of hydroxyl radical on the alterations of lipid profiles were investigated in shrimp muscle. Chemical results indicate peroxide value (PV) and thiobarbituric acid index (TBA-i) value in oxidation-treated shrimp significantly increased with oxidation time, and hydroxyl radical concentration increased, compared with those of in fresh samples. It was assumed that radical attack might induce lipid decomposition, backbone cleavage, and/or side-chain modifications. LC/MS-based lipidomics analysis revealed 835 lipids in shrimp assigned to 27 lipid classes, including 219 PCs and 98 CLs. In total, 86 and 34 differentially abundant lipids (DALs) accumulated at lower and higher levels, respectively, were identified in OS, compared with that in FS. This indicates hydroxyl radical attack altered the lipidomics profiles of shrimp muscle to a large extent. Furthermore, DALs, including CL 62:2, PC 38:3, and PE 34:9, could be considered as promising biomarkers to distinguish fresh and oxidation-treated shrimp products.
