Abstract
This study investigates the impacts of various factors on e-bike riders' injury severity in crashes with motor vehicles, based on the in-vehicle recording video crash data in China. Variables from human factors, vehicle characteristics, road conditions, and environmental attributes are extracted from the video, especially for drivers and riders' illegal and avoidance behaviour before the crash, and sun shade canopy use. Results of mixed logit models reveal that drivers' speeding, running red lights, slow-down and swerve behaviour, light trucks, heavy trucks, and buses have significantly varied impacts on riders' injury. Moreover, both drivers and riders' illegal behaviour leads to an increased injury, while their avoidance behaviour before crashes can protect riders. In addition, types of visual obstacles, accidents occurring at night, large vehicles' involvement, and the application of sunshade canopies by riders increased the probability of severe injury, while helmet use can protect riders in accidents with motor vehicles.

Abstract
The study aimed to model the effect of spatial relationship between adjacent curves on the severity of curve-based crashes along with driver and crash causal characteristics, reflecting driver's short-term expectancy. The crash and other associated data was retrieved from the web-based Road Accident Data Management System available in Himachal Pradesh, India, and curvature attributes were extracted using GIS. Overall, the study included 1113 curve based crashes. The driver's perception of the sharpness of a curve was quantified as a single representative categorical factor based simultaneously on its length and radius using K-Medoid Clustering. Separate crash severity models catering to the two possible approach directions of the subject curve were developed reflecting its independent interaction with its corresponding adjacent curve in each direction. Partial Proportional Odds models were developed to overcome the predictive limitations of Ordinal and Multinomial logit models. Indicators of spatial relationship and the intensity of sharpness of the subject curve were found to be statistically significant. A sharp approach curve (radius:40-60 m) increased the risk of fatality by 2.16 times with a similar increase (2.5 times) observed for a short (length:30-60 m) adjacent curve. Adjacent curves turning in the same direction were 2.34 times more prone to fatalities. A very sharp subject curve with radius ≤ 40 m increased the risk of fatal crashes by 2.5 times, as did the short subject curves (30-60 m) (at least 3 times). Subject curves characterized by a short length and a very sharp curvature contributed relatively 3-4 times more to fatal crashes. The identified risk factors and their impact can help the relevant stakeholders to take appropriate actions and can further assist them in identifying high risk scenarios.

Abstract
Drunk-driving events often escalate into drunk-driving crashes, however, the contributing factors of this progression remain elusive. To mitigate the likelihood of crashes stemming from drunk-driving events, this paper introduces the notion of 'the severity of drunk-driving event' and examines the complex relationship between the severity and its contributing factors, considering spatiotemporal heterogeneity. The study utilizes a Geographically and Temporally Weighted Binary Logistic Regression (GTWBLR) model to conduct spatiotemporal analysis based on police-reported drunk-driving events in Beijing, China. The results show that most factors passed the non-stationary test, indicating their effects on the severity of drunk-driving event vary significantly across different spatial and temporal domains. Notably, during non-workday, drunk-driving events in northeast of Beijing are more likely to escalate into crashes. Furthermore, severe weather during winter in the northwest of Beijing is associated with high risk of drunk-driving crashes. Based on these insights, the authorities can strengthen drunk-driving checks in the northeast region of Beijing, particularly during non-workdays. And it is crucial to promptly clear accumulated snow on the roads during severe winter weather to improve road safety. These insights and recommendations are highly valuable for reducing the risk of drunk-driving crashes.

Abstract
Interaction effects constitute crucial crash attributes that can be classified into two distinct categories: spatiotemporal interactions and factor interactions. These interactions are rarely addressed systematically in modeling the severity of single-vehicle (SV) crashes. This study focuses on uncovering these crash attributes by designing a full Bayesian spatiotemporal interaction multilevel logit (STIML-logit) approach with heterogeneity in means and variances (HMV). Meanwhile, a nested Gaussian conditional autoregressive (CAR) structure is proposed to fit the spatiotemporal interaction component and its effectiveness is verified by calibrating four different interaction patterns. A standard multilevel logit (with and without HMV), a multilevel logit with HMV, and a spatiotemporal multilevel logit with HMV are constructed for comparison. Risk factors are decomposed into traffic environment factors (group level) and individual crash factors (case level) to construct a multilevel structure and to capture possible interactions between risk factors from different levels (cross-level factor interactions). We perform regression modeling utilizing SV crash cases covering 96 major urban roads in Shandong, China. The modeling results underscore several significant findings: (1) the STIML-logit with HMV demonstrates the best regression performance, suggesting that systematically dealing with the interaction effects and the HMV is a trustworthy modeling perspective; (2) crash models with the nested CAR outperform those with the traditional CAR and the result is supported by all the spatiotemporal statistical functions, highlighting the potential advantages of the nested structure; (3) all the environment factors maintain significant interactions with the case factors, highlighting that the contribution of the environment factors to crash injuries is not constant but is rather influenced by the specific case-related crash factors. The study introduces a promising regression architecture for modeling crash injuries and revealing subtle crash attributes.

Abstract
Vulnerable road users (VRUs) involved crashes are a major road safety concern due to the high likelihood of fatal and severe injury. The use of data-driven methods and heterogeneity models separately have limitations in crash data analysis. This study develops a hybrid approach of Random Forest based SHAP algorithm (RF-SHAP) and random parameters logit modeling framework to explore significant factors and identify the underlying interaction effects on injury severity of VRUs-involved crashes in Shenyang (China) from 2015 to 2017. The results show that the hybrid approach can uncover more underlying causality, which not only quantifies the impact of individual factors on injury severity, but also finds the interaction effects between the factors with random parameters and fixed parameters. Seven factors are found to have significant effect on crash injury severity. Two factors, including primary roads and rural areas produce random parameters. The interaction effects reveal interesting combination features. For example, even though rural areas and primary roads increase the likelihood of fatal crash occurrence individually, the interaction effect of the two factors decreases the likelihood of being fatal. The findings form the foundation for developing safety countermeasures targeted at specific crash groups for reducing fatalities in future crashes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Spatiotemporal correlations have been widely recognized in single-vehicle (SV) crash severity analysis. However, the interactions between them are rarely explored. The current research proposed a spatiotemporal interaction logit (STI-logit) model to regression SV crash severity using observations in Shandong, China. METHOD Two representative regression patterns-mixture component and Gaussian conditional autoregression (CAR)-were employed separately to characterize the spatiotemporal interactions. Two existing statistical techniques-spatiotemporal logit and random parameters logit-were also calibrated and compared with the proposed approach with the aim of highlighting the best one. In addition, three road types-arterial road, secondary road, and branch road-were modeled separately to clarify the variable influence of contributors on crash severity. RESULTS The calibration results indicate that the STI-logit model outperforms other crash models, highlighting that comprehensively accommodating spatiotemporal correlations and their interactions is a recommended crash modeling approach. Additionally, the STI-logit using mixture component fits crash observations better than that using Gaussian CAR and this finding remains stable across road types, suggesting that simultaneously accommodating stable and unstable spatiotemporal risk patterns can further strengthen model fit. According to the significance of risk factors, there is a significant positive correlation between distracted diving, drunk driving, motorcycle, dark (without street lighting), and collision with fixed object and serious SV crashes. Truck and collision with pedestrian significantly mitigate the likelihood of serious SV crashes. Interestingly, the coefficient of roadside hard barrier is significant and positive in branch road model, but it is not significant in arterial road model and secondary road model. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS These findings provide a superior modeling framework and various significant contributors, which are beneficial for mitigating the risk of serious crashes.

Abstract
Single-vehicle (SV) crash severity model considering spatiotemporal correlations has been extensively investigated, but spatiotemporal interactions have not received sufficient attention. This research is dedicated to propose a superior spatiotemporal interaction correlated random parameters logit approach with heterogeneity in means and variances (STICRP-logit-HMV) for systematically characterizing unobserved heterogeneity, spatiotemporal correlations, and spatiotemporal interactions. Four flexible interaction formulations are developed to uncover the spatiotemporal interactions, including linear structure, Kronecker product, mixture-2 model, and mixture-5 model. Four candidate approaches-random parameters logit (RP-logit), RP-logit with heterogeneity in means and variances (RP-logit-HMV), correlated RP-logit-HMV (CRP-logit-HMV), and spatiotemporal CRP-logit-HMV (STCRP-logit-HMV)-are also established and compared with the proposed model. SV crash observations in Shandong Province, China, are employed to calibrate regression parameters. The model comparison results show that (1) the performance of the RP-logit-HMV model outperforms the RP-logit model, implying that capturing heterogeneity in the means and variances can strengthen model fit; (2) the CRP-logit-HMV model and the RP-logit-HMV model are comparable; (3) the STCRP-logit-HMV model outperforms the CRP-logit-HMV model, implying that addressing the spatiotemporal crash mechanisms is beneficial to the overall fitting of the crash model; (4) the STICRP-logit-HMV model performs better than the STCRP-logit-HMV model and this finding remains stable across different interaction formulations, indicating that comprehensively reflecting the spatiotemporal correlations and their interactions is a promising approach to model SV crashes. Among the four interaction models, the STICRP-logit-HMV model with mixture-5 component maintains the best fit, which is a recommended approach to model crash severity. The regression coefficients for young driver, male driver, and non-dry road surface are random across observations, suggesting that the influence of these factors on SV crash severity maintains significant heterogeneity effects. The research results provide transportation professionals with a superior statistical framework for diagnosing crash severity, which is beneficial for improving traffic safety.

Abstract
Pedestrians are vulnerable road users that are directly exposed to road traffic crashes with high odds of resulting in serious injuries and fatalities. Therefore, there is a critical need to identify the risk factors associated with injury severity in pedestrian crashes to promote safe and friendly walking environments for pedestrians. This study investigates the risk factors related to pedestrian, crash, and built environment characteristics that contribute to different injury severity levels in pedestrian crashes in Santiago, Chile from a spatial and statistical perspective. First, a GIS kernel density technique was used to identify spatial clusters with high concentrations of pedestrian crash fatalities and severe injuries. Subsequently, partial proportional odds models were developed using the crash dataset for the whole city and the identified spatial clusters to examine and compare the risk factors that significantly affect pedestrian crash injury severity. The model results reveal higher increases in the fatality probability within the spatial clusters for statistically significant contributing factors related to drunk driving, traffic signage disobedience, and imprudence of the pedestrian. The findings may be utilized in the development and implementation of effective public policies and preventive measures to help improve pedestrian safety in Santiago.

Abstract
Accounting for the growing numbers of injuries, fatalities, and property damage, rear-end crashes are an urgent and serious topic nowadays. The vehicle number involved in one crash significantly affected the injury severity outcomes of rear-end crashes. To examine the transferability and heterogeneity across crash types (two-vehicle versus multi-vehicle) and spatiotemporal stability of determinants affecting the injury severity of freeway rear-end crashes, this study modeled the data of crashes on the Beijing-Shanghai Freeway and Changchun-Shenzhen Freeway across 2014-2019. Accommodating the heterogeneity in the means and variances, the random parameters logit model was proposed to estimate three potential crash injury severity outcomes (no injury, minor injury, and severe injury) and identify the determinants in terms of the driver, vehicle, roadway, environment, temporal, spatial, traffic, and crash characteristics. The likelihood ratio tests revealed that the effects of factors differed significantly depending on crash type, time, and freeway. Significant variations were observed in the marginal effects of determinants between two-vehicle and multi-vehicle freeway rear-end crashes. Then, spatiotemporal instability was reported in several determinants, including trucks early morning. In addition, the heterogeneity in means and variances of the random parameters revealing the interactions of random parameters and other insignificant variables suggested the higher risk of determinants including speeding indicators, early morning, evening time, and rainy weather conditions. The current finding accounting for spatiotemporal instability could help freeway designers, decision-makers, management strategies to understand the contributing mechanisms of the factors to develop effective management strategies and measurements.

Abstract
The performance of myoelectric control highly depends on the features extracted from surface electromyographic (sEMG) signals. We propose three new sEMG features based on the kernel density estimation. The trimmed mean of density (TMD), the entropy of density, and the trimmed mean absolute value of derivative density were computed for each sEMG channel. These features were tested for the classification of single tasks as well as of two tasks concurrently performed. For single tasks, correlation-based feature selection was used, and the features were then classified using linear discriminant analysis (LDA), non-linear support vector machines, and multi-layer perceptron. The eXtreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) classifier was used for the classification of two movements simultaneously performed. The second and third versions of the Ninapro dataset (conventional control) and Ameri's movement dataset (simultaneous control) were used to test the proposed features. For the Ninapro dataset, the overall accuracy of LDA using the TMD feature was 98.99 ± 1.36% and 92.25 ± 9.48% for able-bodied and amputee subjects, respectively. Using ensemble learning of the three classifiers, the average macro and micro-F-score, macro recall, and precision on the validation sets were 98.23 ± 2.02, 98.32 ± 1.93, 98.32 ± 1.93, and 98.88 ± 1.31%, respectively, for the intact subjects. The movement misclassification percentage was 1.75 ± 1.73 and 3.44 ± 2.23 for the intact subjects and amputees. The proposed features were significantly correlated with the movement classes [Generalized Linear Model (GLM); P-value < 0.05]. An accurate online implementation of the proposed algorithm was also presented. For the simultaneous control, the overall accuracy was 99.71 ± 0.08 and 97.85 ± 0.10 for the XGBoost and LDA classifiers, respectively. The proposed features are thus promising for conventional and simultaneous myoelectric control.
