Surface molecularly imprinted magnetic MOFs: A novel platform coupled with magneto electrode for high throughput electrochemical sensing analysis of oxytetracycline in foods

In order to solve inherent problems of traditional molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensors (MIECS), a novel platform of surface molecularly imprinted magnetic metal-organic frameworks (mMOFs@MIPs) was coupled with magneto electrode to establish magnetic MIECS for the recognition of oxytetracycline (OTC). mMOFs@MIPs were synthesized using layer-by-layer modification method for the recognition of OTC. With the help of magneto electrodes, mMOFs@MIPs can be magnetically modified on the electrode surface, forming the electrochemical sensing interface. The imprinted cavities of mMOFs@MIPs can act as the electron channel of the probe to realize label-free detection of OTC. A linear response was obtained within the OTC concentration range of 1.0 × 10^-9 g mL^-1-1.0 × 10^-4 g mL^-1. The applicability of the sensor was estimated using the spiking and recovery method in milk samples with the recoveries ranging from 89.0% to 103.1%. It has potential applications in food safety analysis with high throughput detection capability, high specificity and good stability.

Molecular imprinting science and technology: a survey of the literature for the years 2004-2011

Herein, we present a survey of the literature covering the development of molecular imprinting science and technology over the years 2004-2011. In total, 3779 references to the original papers, reviews, edited volumes and monographs from this period are included, along with recently identified uncited materials from prior to 2004, which were omitted in the first instalment of this series covering the years 1930-2003. In the presentation of the assembled references, a section presenting reviews and monographs covering the area is followed by sections describing fundamental aspects of molecular imprinting including the development of novel polymer formats. Thereafter, literature describing efforts to apply these polymeric materials to a range of application areas is presented. Current trends and areas of rapid development are discussed.

Photopolymerization and photostructuring of molecularly imprinted polymers for sensor applications--a review

Biosensors are already well established in modern analytical chemistry, and have become important tools for clinical diagnostics, environmental analysis, production monitoring, drug detection or screening. They are based on the specific molecular recognition of a target molecule by a biological receptor such as an antibody or an enzyme. Synthetic biomimetic receptors like molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have been shown to be a potential alternative to biomolecules as recognition element for biosensing. Produced by a templating process at the molecular level, MIPs are capable of recognizing and binding target molecules with similar specificity and selectivity to their natural analogues. One of the main challenges in MIP sensor development is the miniaturization of MIP structures and their interfacing with the transducer or with a microchip. Photostructuring appears thereby as one of the most suitable methods for patterning MIPs at the micro and nano scale, directly on the transducer surface. In the present review, a general overview on MIPs in biosensing applications is given, and the photopolymerization and photopatterning of MIPs are particularly described.

Patterning nanostructured, synthetic, polymeric receptors by simultaneous projection photolithography, nanomolding, and molecular imprinting

Microscope projection photolithography is combined with nanomolding and molecular imprinting for the fast microfabrication of molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) arrays in the form of micrometric islands of nanofilaments. Dot diameters from 70-90 μm are easily obtained using a 10× objective and a photomask carrying the desired pattern. The dots are composed of parallel nanofilaments of a high aspect ratio, 150 nm in diameter and several micrometers in length, which are obtained through a nanomolding procedure on porous alumina. The arrays are molecularly imprinted with the small molecule fluorescein or with the protein myoglobin. The fluorescein MIP arrays are able to specifically recognize their target, as demonstrated by fluorescence microscopy. A four-fold increase in binding capacity and imprinting factor (IF = 13) is obtained compared to non-nanostructured porous dots. Imprinting of the nanofilament arrays with the protein myoglobin as the template is also possible and allows for a high imprinting factor of 4.3. Such nanostructured microarrays of synthetic receptors obtained by projection photolithography have great potential in biosensor and biochip development.
