Abstract
Zincon/Latex-NR3+ nanocomposite-loaded dye nanoparticle coated test strip (Zincon/Latex-NR3+ DNTS) was fabricated to detect Zn(II) in plating wastewater by a unique color change from red-purple to deep blue and evaluated its detection performance in actual plating samples. The 5 × 5 mm square-cut DNTS attached sticks were immersed into 10 mL aliquots of aqueous solutions containing Zn(II) ion and 0.01 M TAPS buffer at pH 8.4 with stirring at 250 rpm for 60 min. The calibration curve for Zn(II) was prepared based on the integrated area intensity of reflectance by TLC at 620 nm with the 3σ detection limit was 48.61 ppb, and the quantitative range was approximately up to 1000 ppb. Although Cu(II), Mn(II), Ni(II), and Co(II) showed competitive interference due to complex formation with Zincon, a mixture of masking reagent including thiourea, 2-aminoethanthiol, and o-phenanthroline was effective in removing the contamination. To eliminate Cr(III) interference based on the incorporation of Zn(II) into Cr(III) hydrolyzed polymer, adding KBrO3 and H2SO4 under boiling for several minutes was required. With appropriate pretreatment, all results of actual plating water samples by Zincon/LatexNR3+ DNTS were close to those of ICP-OES.

Abstract
A simultaneous spectrophotometric determination method for trace heavy metal ions based on solid-phase extraction coupled with partial least squares approaches was developed. In the proposed method, trace metal ions in aqueous samples were adsorbed by cation exchange fibers and desorbed by acidic solution from the fibers. After the ion preconcentration process, the enriched solution was detected by ultraviolet and visible spectrophotometer (UV-Vis). Then, the concentration of heavy metal ions were quantified by analyzing ultraviolet and visible spectrum with the help of partial least squares (PLS) approaches. Under the optimal conditions of operation time, flow rate and detection parameters, the overlapped absorption peaks of mixed ions were obtained. The experimental data showed that the concentration, which can be calculated through chemometrics method, of each metal ion increased significantly. The heavy metal ions can be enriched more than 80-fold. The limits of detection (LOD) for the target analytes of copper ions (Cu2+), cobalt ions (Co2+) and nickel ions (Ni2+) mixture was 0.10μgL-1, 0.15μgL-1 and 0.13μgL-1, respectively. The relative standard deviations (RSD) were less than 5%. The performance of the solid-phase extraction can enrich the ions efficiently and the combined method of spectrophotometric detection and PLS can evaluate the ions concentration accurately. The work proposed here is an interesting and promising attempt for the trace ions determination in water samples and will have much more applied field.

Abstract
The efficacy of a miniaturized unimolecular analytic system is illustrated. The easily accessible therapeutic chromophore "temoporfin", which responds differentially to bound metals at multiple wavelengths of Q-band absorption using chemometric analysis, expeditiously detects and discriminates a wide range of metals regarded as priority pollutants in water and hence may also be used for diagnosis of medically relevant metals in human urine. The molecule was further investigated as an electronic logic device, e.g. keypad lock device, to authorize multiple highly secure chemical passwords for information protection.

Abstract
In this study, an optical sensor membrane was prepared for sorption and detection of cadmium(II) (Cd(II)) in aqueous solution. A polyanion, poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PNaSS), was grafted onto the chloromethylated polysulfone (CMPSF) microporous membrane via surface-initiated ATRP. 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-N-methylpyridyl) porphyrin p-toluenesulfonate (TMPyP) was immobilized onto the PNaSS-grafted polysulfone (PSF-PNaSS) membrane through electrostatic interaction. The TMPyP-functionalized membrane exhibited an enhanced sorption for, and distinct color and spectral response to cadmium(II) (Cd(II)) in aqueous solution. Larger immobilization capacity of TMPyP on the membrane led to stronger sorption for Cd(II), and smaller one made the optical sensor have a faster (in minutes) and more sensitive response to the ion. The detection limit study indicated that the functional membrane with proper amount of TMPyP (<0.5 mg/g) could still have color and spectral response to Cd(II) solutions at an extreme low concentration (10(-4) mg/L). The optical sensor membrane exhibited good stability and reusability which made it efficient for various sorptive removal and detection applications.

Abstract
Nanoporous β-cyclodextrin-containing silicas which differ by functional substituents of wide edge of attached cyclic oligosaccharide molecules (alcohol, bromoacetyl, thiosemicarbazidoacetyl groups) have been synthesized. The structure and chemical composition of the surface, porosity of obtained materials, their chemical and thermal stability have been characterized by scanning electron microscopy, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, nitrogen ad-desorption, elemental and chemical analyses of solid surface. Sorption of trace amounts of cadmium (II) in the presence of ten- and hundred-fold excess of hardness salts by synthesized organosilicas has been studied. It has been demonstrated that the sorption equilibrium is reached after 30 min. The sorption of trace amounts of cadmium (II) from multi-component solutions does not decrease, but even increases in the presence of hardness salts, simulating soft and hard water. Coefficients of distribution and selectivity as well as the sorption parameters of Langmuir and Freundlich equations have been calculated. It was found that the driving force of cadmium (II) sorption on the surface of functional β-cyclodextrin-containing silicas is the formation of inclusion complexes "β-cyclodextrin-nitrate-anion". It has been proved the formation of supramolecular structures on the surface of synthesized organosilicas as a result of cadmium (II) sorption. Chemical composition of supermolecules depends on the structure of surface active centers.
