Abstract
Human serum albumin (HSA) acts as a repository and transporter of substances in the blood. An abnormal concentration may indicate the occurrence of liver- and kidney-related diseases, which has attracted people to investigate the precise quantification of HSA in body fluids. Fluorescent probes can combine with HSA covalently or noncovalently to quantify HSA in urine and plasma. Moreover, probes combined with HSA can improve its photophysical properties; probe-HSA has been applied in real-time monitoring and photothermal and photodynamic therapy in vivo. This Review will introduce fluorescent probes for quantitative HSA according to the three reaction mechanisms of spatial structure, enzymatic reaction, and self-assembly and systematically introduce the application of probes combined with HSA in disease imaging and phototherapy. It will help develop multifunctional applications for HSA probes and provide assistance in the early diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

Abstract
Two-dimensional metal-organic layer (MOL) nanosheets, as nonhomogeneous catalysts, show better optical activity in the field of photocatalysis due to their unique structural advantages. Current research focuses on how to modify the structure of 2D nanosheets by means of crystal engineering to modulate the intralayer electron transfer pathway and systematically investigate the impacts of size effect and electron transfer pathway on the energy utilization efficiency of crystalline materials. In the present work, a triple lophine-derived ligand was designed and prepared, which exhibits a large π-conjugation system and multiple D-A (D: donor, A: acceptor) electron transfer pathways. 2D MOL constructed with Cd ions can be exfoliated by physical sonication to obtain double-walled 2D MOL nanosheets. Compared with the bulk crystalline material, the 2D nanosheets exhibit better photovoltaic properties. Benefiting from the excellent structural advantages, 2D MOL nanosheets could be used as photocatalysts for a variety of aerobic oxidation reactions under mild conditions (10 W white LED, room temperature), such as the trifluoromethylation of coumarins, the synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives from aromatic diamines and aromatic aldehydes, and the preparation of 2,4,6-triarylpyridine derivatives, all with high conversion rates and selectivity (yield typically greater than 88%). The related results illustrate that the introduction of the photoactive triple-lophine unit into 2D MOL nanosheets can effectively modulate the electron transport mode and enhance energy utilization, which provides a new research idea for the development of nonhomogeneous photocatalysts aimed at the applications of visible light-driven organic conversion.

Abstract
The pharmacokinetics of some hepatically cleared drugs have been reported to fluctuate in patients with renal impairment, but the definitive factors have not been clarified. We compared the pharmacokinetics of some drugs with different hepatic elimination processes in a chronic kidney disease (CKD) rat model, to optimize their administration during kidney injury. We chose indocyanine green (ICG), midazolam (MDZ), and acetaminophen (APAP) as reference drugs to determine changes in hepatic clearance pathways in presence of CKD. Drugs were intravenously administered via the jugular vein to the CKD model rats, previously established by adenine administration, and then, blood, bile, and urine samples were collected. The plasma concentration of ICG, which is eliminated into the bile without biotransformation, increased; and its total body clearance (CLtot) significantly decreased in the CKD group compared to the control group. Moreover, the plasma concentrations of MDZ and APAP, metabolized in the liver by CYP3A and Ugt1a6 enzymes, respectively, were higher in the CKD group than in the control group. The biliary clearances of APAP and its derivative APAP-glucuronide increased in the CKD group, whereas their renal clearances were markedly decreased with respect to those in the control group. Altogether, plasma concentrations of some hepatically eliminated drugs increased in the CKD rat model, but depending on their pharmacokinetic characteristics. This study provides useful information for optimizing the administration of some hepatically cleared drugs in CKD patients.

Abstract
Human serum albumin (HSA) is a biological macromolecule with important physiological functions; abnormal HSA levels are associated with coronary heart disease, multiple myeloma, diabetes, nephropathy, neurometabolic disorders, liver cirrhosis and other diseases. Therefore, accurate and quantitative detection of HAS have extremely important research and application value in biological science, molecular biology, clinical medicine and other fields. As for the detection method of HSA, dye-binding method and immune method are the first to be used, and have been applied in clinical detection. In recent years, many new detection technologies have emerged, such as fluorescent probe detection method, nano-materials for HSA detection, biosensor and so on. Although there are many methods developed recently to detect HSA, comprehensive reviews for HSA detection methods are still rare. Thus, writing this review to fill in the blank is in need. In order to highlight the recent progress in the field of HSA detection, in this review, the methods used to detect HSA are summarized and sorted, the advantages and disadvantages of these detection methods are also listed, then the research progress of small molecular fluorescence probe method is emphatically introduced in this paper. Then, we briefly discussed the challenges and future development directions in this field.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to investigate the effects of renal ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) on the distribution of midazolam (MDZ), a probe drug for cytochrome P450 3A (CYP3A) activity. METHODS We established an AKI model inducing ischaemia of both renal pedicles for 60 min followed by 24-h reperfusion. MDZ was administered intravenously (i.v.) to the rats via the jugular vein, and then, blood samples were collected to determine the plasma concentration of MDZ. KEY FINDINGS While the plasma concentration of MDZ after i.v. administration was decreased in the I/R rats, the tissue concentration was not altered. In addition, the tissue-to-plasma (T/P) ratio of MDZ was increased in the I/R rats. The unbound fraction of MDZ and the level of indoxyl sulphate (IS) in plasma were elevated in the I/R rats. Furthermore, the unbound fraction of MDZ was significantly increased by the addition of IS. CONCLUSIONS These results indicated that the displacement of albumin-bound MDZ by IS changed the unbound fraction of MDZ and elevated the T/P ratio of MDZ in I/R rats.

Abstract
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a colorless toxic gas which can be found as HS- in rivers and waste waters especially in the occupational susceptible environment. Herein we synthesized a lophine analogue, 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4,5-di(2-pyridyl)imidazole (HPI), which fluoresces at 410 nm after excitation at 280 nm. HPI has an imidazole ring and a pyridine ring which are capable of forming coordinate bonds with copper (Cu(II)) that cause quenching of HPI fluorescence. We found that HS- can selectively liberate HPI from the complex via formation of CuS, thus, HPI regains its fluorescence properties. Interestingly, the probe was proved to be regenerable. This reaction was used for the development of a fluorescence microplate assay for the determination of HS- in environmental samples. The method was applied to river water samples and was able to detect HS- in concentrations down to 5 ppb with acceptable accuracy (90.3-103.0%) and good precision (%RSD ≤ 4.1). The method showed many advantages over the previously reported ones including instantaneous reaction, simple probe synthesis, high-throughput, high selectivity toward hydrogen sulfide over other ions and sulfur or thiol containing compounds and at last, it complies with the green chemistry rules through using a regenerable probe, aqueous solvents, and miniaturized measurement system.

Abstract
A fluorescent probe 1 has been successfully developed to determine human serum albumin (HSA). Probe 1 expresses a dramatic fluorescence enhancement to HSA without interference from other amino acids. Under the optimal conditions, the calibration graphs are linear over the range of 0 - 13.3 μg/mL with the limit of determination of 0.61 μg/mL. Thus, this probe shows high sensitivity and selectivity to HSA.
